Exemplary persons are steadfast in the face of adversity, while petty persons are engulfed by it ~Confucius
The Red Lotus
The hardest friendships are those born in the midst of adversity. The Red Lotus clan and the Sakura Clan were once greatest allies that fought countless wars hand in hand in order to fend off other kingdoms from overtaking their territories. Both lands were rich in nature, fresh produce and animal life.
As the legends speak, an enemy clan disguised themselves as the Red Lotus and destroyed one of Sakura's villages. It caused retaliations and despite multiple pleas from the real Red Lotus clan, the Sakura clan closed its gates forever.
The feud continued for thousands of years till only very few knew of the history of both the clans. However, are the Gods and goddesses tired of this long never ending story? Is that the reason why they somehow brought both heirs to the throne to meet?
There is no such thing as a coincidence, they say. She was out on a mission, disguised as a commoner. No one would realize she was actually part of the upper world. He, on the other hand was riding as a soldier, no colors, no announcements of his true linage and no companions. They crossed paths during a rest stop at the same Inn located in between their territories.
There was injustice in view, some travelers were harassing one of the servers. She interjected, demanding it to end, due to her petite frame, she was not taken so seriously. When the brawl started, she was outnumbered despite trained to defend herself. Lucky for her, he walked in just in time and they fought side by side, just like their ancestors before them.
On discussions about each of their missions, they discovered they were of enemy clans. They should have ended each other then but considering they already fought side by side, it was difficult. A secret friendship was in order. They kept in touch through sneaky letters. They met outside their territories. There was so much discussions about the future of their clans. So much hope for a truce and an alliance once again. Only time was in the way.
She packed the best textiles and herbal tea for him to take back to his family. He would always play a tune for her and bring her the red lotuses from his lands as a symbol of hope for the future and betterment of both their people.
P.S. Been ages since our last photo collab! Between work and timezones. I am so happy to have finally gotten the chance! Thank you Ji, for being the best story teller/ photo planner! He will post his version soon! Check out his stream!

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.

A masterpiece of the Early and High Middle Ages, Svetitskhoveli is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It is currently the second largest church building in Georgia, after the Holy Trinity Cathedral.
Known as the burial site of the claimed Christ's mantle, Svetitskhoveli has long been one of the principal Georgian Orthodox churches and is among the most venerated places of worship in the region. Svetitskhoveli is considered an endangered cultural landmark; it has survived a variety of adversities, and many of its priceless frescoes have been lost due to being whitewashed by the Russian Imperial authorities. It is considered one of the four Great Cathedrals of the Georgian Orthodox world.
Inner strength is talking about ability to resist difficult moments, ability to be happy despite the adversities that inevitably, to a greater or lesser degree, everyone experiences. Find the energy to keep going in the midst of difficulties. to dissociate, to relativize situations, to smile from within.
The edition of this photo of a rose suggests to me that its strength, its light comes from its interior.
"Do not complain about darkness, light a candle" Chinese Proverb
-------------------------------
When shrieked
The bleak November winds, and smote the woods,
And the brown fields were herbless, and the shades
That met above the merry rivulet
Were spoiled, I sought, I loved them still; they seemed
Like old companions in adversity.

Introduction
Best Gospel Hymns | 2019 Gospel Song With Lyrics "What the Young Must Pursue" | Videos Gospel
I
Prejudiced eyes and deceit are not what the youth should have.
Awful and destructive ways are not how the youth should act.
They should have aspirations, ardently strive to advance,
not lose heart over their prospects,
keep faith in life, the future.
Youth should have resolve in discernment, seeking justice and the truth.
Pursue all things beautiful,
gain reality of positive things.
Be responsible towards life.
You must not take this lightly. You must not take this lightly.
II
Youth should persist in the path of truth,
thus expend their lives for God.
They should not lack the truth,
nor harbor falseness, unrighteousness.
They should take the proper stance.
They shouldn’t just drift along.
They should dare to sacrifice, fight for justice and the truth.
Youth should have resolve in discernment, seeking justice and the truth.
Pursue all things beautiful,
gain reality of positive things.
Be responsible towards life.
You must not take this lightly. You must not take this lightly.
III
Young people should not give in to oppression of dark force.
They must have the courage to change the meaning of their lives.
Young people shouldn’t resign themselves to adversity,
they should be open and frank, forgive fellow believers.
Youth should have resolve in discernment, seeking justice and the truth.
Pursue all things beautiful,
gain reality of positive things.
Be responsible towards life.
You must not take this lightly. You must not take this lightly.

The only spiritual life you need is not to react.
To be calm is the greatest asset in the world. It's the greatest power you can have. If you can only learn to be calm you will solve every problem. This is something you must remember. When you are perfectly calm, time stops. There is no time, karma stops, samskaras stop. Everything becomes null and void.
For when you are calm you are one with the entire energy of the universe and everything will go well with you.
To be calm means you are in control.
You are not worried about the situation, the outcome; what is going to happen tomorrow.
To be calm means everything is alright.
There is nothing to worry about, nothing to fret over.
This is also the meaning of the biblical saying, " Be still and know that I am God".
To be calm is to be still.
Robert Adams

This lovely little butterfly fluttered over my brightly colored blossoms one sunny day. He/she had wings that were a bit tattered and torn, yet the quest to visit each flower was strong enough to keep the butterfly moving along. I was reminded that all of us face adversities, yet it is what we do when challenged with those life moments that reveals who we are deep inside ourselves.

This Barred Owl right behind my place sits calmly even though every robin and jay in the neighborhood is squawking at it.
I chose to use this photo of a Red-tailed Hawk because they are symbols of power, courage and strength and I hope my dad is now flying as free as this hawk.
My dad Arne died today Feb 23, 2023 which would of been my mother's bday making it even harder. My mom passed away just over a year ago. To lose my dad this close to my mom has been grief upon grief. It is unimaginable pain to have no parents left. No one is alive now who knew me from the day I was born. I still need my dad and his loss has come as a complete shock. Everything happened so fast, it seems like a dream. He was my rock and my protector. He was the kindest most gentle soul.
My dad got pneumonia that was resistant to antibiotics despite the doctors trying two different kinds of broad spectrum IV antibiotics. The infection could not be controlled and despite a picc line in to administer meds to his heart, his kidneys, heart and lungs shut down. His infection in his chest was so bad it caused irreversible pulmonary fibrosis. He grew weaker and needed high flow oxygen ventilation to survive. This man never got COVID and was rarely sick and now was fighting for his life. Despite IV steroids he continued to grow weaker and slipped into a coma. Before that he spoke to me and was so grateful my sister and I came to visit him daily. He thanked and kissed me and told me he loved me every day. When the doctors asked me if it was ok to pull his ventilation when he went into a coma it was a very hard decision, despite it being the right choice. I knew my dad did not want to live in a vegetative state. However, it is not a decision I would ever wish on my worst enemy because it is still taking away a life prolonging element. My sister and I held our dad's hands as he passed away in palliative care early this morning. He passed peacefully and quickly. I miss him so. I miss his laugh, his hugs, his kisses and his warmth. I miss his guidance, strength and beautiful presence. I miss his voice and am truly heart broken I won't ever hear him or see him ever again. I hope that since he chose to pass on my mother's birthday he is now with her and is at peace. The peace this gentle, extraordinary and kind man truly deserves who did so much for me and who loved me every single day of his life. When we told his 4 year old grandson that he passed he cried and cried. It was so heartbreaking.
I am so grateful I had such a loving and kind dad. My dad actually is the one who got me into birding at five years old and bought me my first field guide. I will be lost without him but hope he knows how much I love him and how proud I was to call him my dad. Losing a parent is so hard and navigating life without both when you are young is not easy, so I hope I can find the strength to continue on and make them proud. I am not looking forward to all the things one must do once they pass away. So for now I will just take it day by day and plan his funeral and grieve the loss of a wonderful man who taught me how to love and respect nature and how to treat others with dignity and respect. Thank you Dad for loving me and giving me such a good life. Thank you for giving me an example to live by and for inspiring me with your strength and resilience to adversity and for never complaining even when you were suffering. You made me proud dad and I hope I will do the same for you.
Thank you to the amazing staff and Internal Medicine and Respirology team at St. Paul's hospital and the Palliative Care Team and all the nurses and doctors that cared for him from the moment he walked in until his final day on earth today.
Rest in peace dad I will never forget you and I love you always, now and forever.

“After years of having a dog, you know him. You know the meaning of his snuffs and grunts and barks. Every twitch of the ears is a question or statement, every wag of the tail is an exclamation.”
― Robert R. McCammon, Boy's Life
“A person can learn a lot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours. Marley taught me about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart. He taught me to appreciate the simple things-a walk in the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in a shaft of winter sunlight. And as he grew old and achy, he taught me about optimism in the face of adversity. Mostly, he taught me about friendship and selflessness and, above all else, unwavering loyalty.”

"A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us;
when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in
our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us,
and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness,
and cause peace to return to our hearts."

Have a LOVELY day my FRIENDS!!!
'Tis not the softer things of life
Which stimulate man's will to strive;
But bleak adversity and strife
Do most to keep man's will alive.
O'er rose-strewn paths the weaklings creep,
But brave hearts dare to climb the steep.

After six days things are back to normal in my home. The city still has many issues, and it will be many more weeks before things are back to normal. There is a mountain of debris from fallen trees still lining the roads, and some people still don't have power. I just got my power back about 3:00 PM Sunday afternoon. Just got internet back about an hour ago. I'm back Flickr.

This beautiful Great Tit made me sad for her handicap but, despite of this, she behaves like any other bird. She probably won't be able to wedge sunflowers seeds but there is always shelled seeds in the birdfeeders, fat balls (she loves those balls !) ...
Perharps she was born like this or has been attacked by a Sparrow hawk. She adapted her behaviour to compensate the mising leg. She stagges a little when it comes to landing, puts her valid leg in the axis of her body and, with a flick of the wing, finds her balance.
She appears healthy and strong and I do hope she could start a family next Spring. It's amazing how little animals can overcome adversity. The fight for life is alive in all of us but it's more diifficult in the wild.
What a great example this Tit shows us !
I named her Piou ! I see her everyday and I'll post photo of her from time to time.
♡♡♡♡♡
One from early February taken from the hillside below the Cadair Idris ridge. An old Rowan still surviving despite growing out of the thin soil between the boulders and being exposed to the elements, in the distance are the Rhinogydd mountains.
This storm too shall pass. Or so I hope.

While taking pictures of St John's Point lighthouse, I was unaware that about a dozen of these inquisitive cattle had wandered up behind me.
They seemed to be very interested in what I was doing. Maybe they just wanted their picture taken - I was happy to oblige.

Worship God in spirit and in truth | "The Heart's Voice of a Created Being" Christian Music Video
I
I wanted to cry, but no place felt right.
I wanted to sing, but no song was found.
I wanted to express the love of a created being.
Searching high and low, but no words could say, could say just how I feel.
Practical and true God, the love inside my heart.
I lift my hands in praise, I rejoice that You came into this world.
II
Man came from dust, and God gave him life.
Satan came down to corrupt mankind.
Lost are their humanity and reason.
Generation after generation, fallen since that day.
But You are … the practical and true God, the love inside my heart.
I am dust but I can see Your face. How can I not worship?
The practical and true God, the love inside my heart.
I am dust but I can see Your face. How can I not worship You?
III
God created man and loves him so, that He became flesh again,
bore good and bad, adversity and sorrow,
saving us and bringing us to a beautiful place.
We will always thank You.
The practical and true God, the love inside my heart.
Corrupt, but You have saved me! How can I not worship?
The practical and true God, the love inside my heart.
Corrupt, but You have saved me! How can I not worship You?
How can I not worship You? How can I not worship You?
