USS Bowfin (SS/AGSS-287), a United States Navy Balao-class fleet attack submarine, was laid down by the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard at Kittery, Maine on July 23, 1942; launched one year after the attack on Pearl Harbor, on December 7, 1942 by Mrs. Jane Gawne, wife of Captain James Orville Gawne; and commissioned on May 1, 1943, Commander Joseph H. Willingham in command. Nicknamed the Pearl Harbor Avenger, the 311-foot, 8-inch long Bowfin and her 80-man crew are credited with sinking 16 Japanese vessels (and many more uncredited) with a total tonnage of 67,882 tons during the course of her nine patrols over two years of World War II duty. At the war's end, Bowfin left Pearl Harbor for active duty with the Atlantic Fleet. She later served as a reserve training boat in Seattle, Washington, until her decommissioning at Pearl Harbor in 1971.
The USS Bowfin Submarine Museum and Park opened in 1981 next to the USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center in Pearl Harbor. The centerpiece of the museum is the World War II submarine USS Bowfin (SS-287), which is open for public tours. Adjacent to the Bowfin is a 10,000 square foot museum which exhibits an impressive collection of submarine-related artifacts such as submarine weapon systems, photographs, paintings, battleflags, original recruiting posters, and detailed submarine models, all illustrating the history of the U.S. Submarine Service. Numerous submarine-related artifacts litter the grounds around the park, which also features the Waterfront Memorial, a public memorial honoring the 52 American submarines and the more than 3,500 submariners lost during World War II.

On April 3, 2016, the Spring Grove Police Department and Spring Grove Fire Protection District held a joint active shooter drill at Spring Grove Elementary School. Sunday's training was intended to prepare first responders to save lives, should the unthinkable occur, and get the children and staff home to their families. The drill also offered firefighters their first opportunity to work with police in a realistic scenario while wearing body armor. Several police and fire departments from the area, along with McHenry County SWAT, responded to the aid of Spring Grove officials. Firefighter explorers were used as victims and the police department provided a subject acting as the gunman. No students or staff were present during the 3-hour training session.

It's snowing in Holland right now, and I'm kind of denying it and thinking back to my visit to Wales in August.

"Tretower Castle (Gastell Tretŵr in Welsh) was founded as a motte and bailey castle. In the 12th century, a shell-keep was added to the motte. By c.1230 a tall cylindrical keep was added to the inside of the shell-keep and the space between was roofed over. At this time the earlier bailey was walled in stone and provided with cylindrical corner towers. In the early 14th century residential buildings were constructed away from the original fortifications forming today's Tretower Court. Active Assignment Weekly - Surrealism.
Wow - this is a tough assignment as I can't do double exposure with my camera, and I don't have Photoshop or any such fancy thing. So, I have played about with what I have.
WIT:
I took some shots of my hand in front of the TV screen during whatever happened to be on - it was a movie of some sort. I had to go with what came up. Then, in PP I used the Polar Co-ordinates application.

Active Assignment Weekly: Break the Rules
First I used dead/wilting flowers, and underexposed them. I also tried to break the rules of composition by placing the "heaviest" object at the top of the frame, making it look upside-down (it isn't). Hardest of all for me, this is straight out of the camera, no cropping or anything. Used a low power speedlight camera left, snooted to prevent spill.
Unfortunately, the big, intact rose is right at the junction of thirds lines. Apparently, I can't break that many rules.
