Active volcano Bromo - one of the most popular volcanoes in Indonesia. The crater Bromo is much easier to look, than other craters of volcanoes. Together with other calmer volcanoes fumed Bromo is a spectacular sight from the lookout on Mount Penandzhakan.

Bromo is an active volcano in Indonesia, part of the Tenger volcanic complex. Located in the east of Java. It has a height of 2392 meters. Bromo Volcano is a part of the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park. The volcano has been in a state of constant activity for the last 20 years, its crater is filled with smoke from active fumaroles.

Had the opportunity to revisit and reprocess an older image.....

This Spotted Pardalote was seen a while ago during a visit to the Hunter Wetlands Centre, Shortland, NSW; Australia.

It was quite active within this paperbark tree seeking out grubs and nesting material.

Hope you like this re-work.

Hornby Lighthouse, also known as South Head Lower Light or South Head Signal Station, is a heritage-listed active lighthouse located on the tip of South Head, New South Wales, Australia, a headland to the north of the suburb Watsons Bay. It marks the southern entrance to Port Jackson and Sydney Harbour, as well as lighting the South Reef, a ledge of submerged rocks. It is the third oldest lighthouse in New South Wales. It is listed on the (now defunct) Register of the National Estate and on the New South Wales State Heritage Register since 2 April 1999. A dominant Sydney landmark which appears to have been in continuous use since the 1840s as a controlling point for shipping entering and leaving Port Jackson. The building complex, designed by the Colonial Architect Mortimer Lewis in the early 1840s, is an architectural important example of an early Victorian public work associated with port activities. 26022

Two nice meerkats in the zoo in Płock. It is my last photo from this zoo :)

The meerkat (Suricata suricatta) or suricate is a small mongoose found in southern Africa. Meerkats are eusocial, and form packs of two to 30 individuals each that occupy home ranges around 5 km2 in area. They live in rock crevices in stony, often calcareous areas, and in large burrow systems in plains. Meerkats are active during the day. They use a broad variety of calls to communicate among one another for different purposes, for example to raise alarm on sighting a predator. The meerkats are primarily an insectivore, feeding heavily on beetles and lepidopterans. They can additionally feed on eggs, amphibians, arthropods (such as scorpions, to whose venom they are immune), reptiles, small birds, plants and seeds.

Sympatyczne surykatki pstryknięte w płockim zoo. I to już moje ostatnie zdjęcie z tego ogrodu zoologicznego :)

Surykatka szara, surykatka (Suricata suricatta) – gatunek drapieżnego ssaka z rodziny mangustowatych.

This photo is from Marado [Mara Island]. Marado represents the southernmost point in South Korean territory. The island is about 30km from the southern port of Jeju and the trip by ferry took about 15-20 minutes. The island is comparatively small (approximately 0.3 square kilometers) and you can walk around its entirety at a leisurely pace in about 90 minutes. Marado is home to about 90 residents and "…has long been known for its population being composed of strong women and docile men." (Wiki). While there, we saw traditional "haenyeo" women divers actively working at their trade of free diving to gather seafood.

My first view of the Avenue of the Volcanoes at 6:52 am (a 4h58m climb) from the Refugio (Hut).

There are several volcanoes, but the most striking are the Chimborazo on your right (I will climb it tomorrow), the highest in the world and Cotopaxi, the second highest volcano in Ecuador (I climbed it in the first 24 hours).

Climbing an active volcano is complicated.

The crater is just below me. It took years for the Ecuadorian government to release climbing permits.

Me knowing the risks and signing the papers. It is a great pleasure for Pachamama to accept me, agradiseyki.

Smile on Saturday: Anything with A

The Southern Meat Ant (Iridomyrmex purpureus) is endemic to Australia. It was described by British entomologist Frederick Smith in 1858. It is among the best-known species of ant found throughout mainland Australia. Its enormous distribution, aggression and ecological importance have made this ant a dominant species. It is characterised by its dark-bluish body and red head. It is a medium to large species; workers and males are approximately the same sizes at 6–7 mm and 8 mm, respectively. The queens are the largest and appear mostly black, measuring 12.7 mm. The iridescence in workers ranges from green or blue to plain green and purple, varying in different body parts and castes. Meat ants inhabit open and warm areas in large, oval-shaped mounds that are accompanied by many entrance holes. The nest area is always cleared of vegetation and covered with materials including gravel, pebbles and dead vegetation. They are also polydomous, where a colony may be established in a series of satellite nests connected by well-defined paths and trails. Satellite nests are constructed away from the main nest and nearby areas with valuable food sources so workers can exploit them.

Queens mate with a single male and colonies may have more than one queen until the workers arrive, where they both exhibit antagonism. It takes around one or two months for an individual egg to develop into an adult. Colonies range in size, varying between 11,000 individuals to over 300,000. The meat ant is a diurnal species (active throughout most of the day), especially when it is warm. It forages on trees and collects sweet substances such as honeydew and nectar, and also captures insects or collects the remains of animals. A number of predators eat these ants, including the short-beaked echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus), numerous species of birds, blind snakes and spiders. Meat ants establish territorial borders with neighbouring colonies and solve disputes through ritualised fighting.

Meat ants play an important role in both the environment and for humans. A single nest is capable of dispersing over 300,000 plant seeds; moreover, meat ants have formed symbiotic relationships with many insects. This ant may be used as a form of pest control to kill the cane toad, an invasive species. They can also help farmers to remove animal carcasses by consuming and reducing them to bones in a matter of weeks.

The coal tit is a small tit of coniferous woodland, although it can be found in parks and gardens where there are conifer trees. It nests in holes in trees, but is just as happy to use nestboxes. Coal tits are active feeders, hunting out insects and spiders among the smaller branches and leaves of trees in woolands. But they are also well-adapted to gardens and towns and will visit birdtables and feeders. In winter, they form flocks with other tits, roaming woodlands and gardens. They have a song of repeated phrases that are similar to those of great tits, but sound thinner and more high-pitched, like bicycle pumps.

The coal tit is grey above and buff below, with white cheeks, a black cap and a white neck patch. It can be distinguished from the similar marsh tit and willow tit by its white wingbars and the white patch at the back of its head; marsh and willow tits have plain wings and entirely black caps.

A surprise for us at Brachina Gorge was to see in the shadows a whole lot of previously endangered rock wallabies. It turns out this is some kind of protected reserve for them and there are actually hundreds in the area. Later in the trip we found more in rarer country. This is a young one being active.

It is rutting season and the bucks are getting active sparring for dominance. These two young bucks went at it for awhile this morning.

a very active humpback calf rewarded our trip by breaching many times, quite close to the boat.

Unfortunately the Monterey bay area was filled with smoke and fog, so the whole scene is quite grey...

This red disk-shaped phenomenon, is another member of the TLEs (Transient Luminous Events, happening in the middle and upper atmosphere, above thunderstorms) family and is called sprite halo. Under it, there is a group of, relatively small, sprites. Sprite halo is short-lived (some ms) and its color comes from the same physical process as in red sprites (de-excitation of 1st positive group of mol. nitrogen). Halos appear close to sprite tops (alt. ~80-85 km), over active thunderstorms, like sprites. Sprite halos are usually triggered by -CGs, in contrast to sprites which are related to +CGs (99%). There is also a faint stripe of high clouds in front of the halo. The yellow light is a distant ship.

The event happened over the thunderstorms south of Crete (on the east side of the Medicane on 28/10) as seen from S. Attica during the night of Oct. 28, 2021. Faint parent lightning flash at the bottom, behind a cloud layer, can be seen as well. I've used a Sigma 85 mm lens at f/1.4, for 1/4'' with 51.2k iso. WIT

This weekend the weather was very uninspiring: cold, completely grey sky and foggy conditions. Nevertheless, we went birding close to the sea and found this group of Flamingos enjoying themselves in our nutrient-rich waters. A bit weird to see this group of pink beauties in this dull landscape. Due to the fog, however, even the pink colours were dull.

Arrowsic Island, Maine.

Doubling Point Light is a lighthouse on the Kennebec River in Arrowsic, Maine. It was established in 1898, fifteen years after the founding of the Bath Iron Works, a major shipbuilder, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) upriver. It was part of a major upgrade of the river's lights — the Doubling Point Light and the separate Range Lights on the point, Perkins Island Light, and Squirrel Point Light were all built at the same time. The light was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Doubling Point Light Station on January 21, 1988. It remains an active aid to navigation.

The Doubling Point Light is located on the lower Kennebec River, at a point where the normally south-flowing river makes a sharp turn to the east, followed by a turn back to the south. The light is set at the inside corner of the first of these turns, on the west side of Arrowsic Island, roughly opposite the mouth of Winnegance Creek. The light station includes a tower, keeper's house, shed, and oil house. The tower is an octagonal wood-frame structure, finished in wooden shingles, with an iron walkway around the lantern chamber. It is accessed via a three-span footbridge.

Near the tower is the keeper's house, an L-shaped 1+1⁄2-story wood-frame structure with hip-roofed porches. Also nearby are the gable-roofed tool shed, built in 1898, and the small brick oilhouse, added in 1906.

The city of Bath, located north (upriver) from this point, had been a major shipbuilding port for much of the 19th century, and the river was a major transportation artery all the way to Augusta. In 1892 the river below Bath was identified by the United States Lighthouse Board as needing improved navigational aids, and a series of improvements were authorized. Funding was made available by Congress in 1895, and Doubling Point Light was built in 1898, along with the keeper's house and shed. The tower did not originally stand at its present location, to which it was moved in 1899, and the keeper's house was moved closer to the tower in 1901. The tower's original lens was a fifth-order Fresnel lens; it was automated in 1988. (Wikipedia.)

It's a long time since I rode but I was very active back in the day.

Like any good tourist, I had to take a picture of this historic monument. It's not anything too brilliant, or magnificent, but it is a quaint, even respectable landmark to commemorate Active World's narrative of when the world was born, and who was its first citizen. There's a bit more that would be interesting to know, such as who this first citizen was in the real world, and what their relation to Active Worlds was. Was this Cy person part of the team that created Active Worlds, or is this the first unique individual that signed up to become a citizen? A lot of questions, just from one statue and its simple homage.

Note: I have come to consider places like Worlds and Active Worlds as being open virtual worlds. These were the pioneers of virtual spaces on the internet, and among the first to quote Snow Crash, even begin to coin 'metaverse' and web3.0 in trying to explain what they are. Therefore, any group that, in a general sense, speaks of themselves as an open world, open life, virtual world, web3.0, or hypergrid, seems appropriate appropriate groups to add them to. After all, these virtual worlds were very much ahead of the game and developed a lot of the aspects that make up our virtual world experiences even to this day. Not only did they have teleportation to different regions, but to different servers, even without utilizing a hypergate, but simply by teleporting to that server, as long as you had that server's coordinates. If you don't agree with this definition, let me know, and I won't post these in your group.
