A Beautiful colorful bird easy to spot, but hard to photograph. Very active and energetic, doesn't stay put for long on any branch.
Thanks for your views / feedback. Much appreciated.

Though Mars is the Red Planet, false-color images can help us learn about its weather and geology. This image shows a variety of wind-related features on the Red Planet near the center of Gamboa Crater. Larger sand dunes form sinuous crests and individual domes.
There are tiny ripples on the tops of the dunes, only several feet from crest-to-crest. These merge into larger mega-ripples about 30 feet apart that radiate outward from the dunes. The larger, brighter formations that are roughly parallel are called "Transverse Aeolian Ridges" (TAR). These TAR are covered with very coarse sand.
The mega-ripples appear blue-green on one side of an enhanced color cutout while the TAR appear brighter blue on the other. This could be because the TAR are actively moving under the force of the wind, clearing away darker dust and making them brighter. All of these different features can indicate which way the wind was blowing when they formed. Being able to study such variety so close together allows us to see their relationships and compare and contrast features to examine what they are made of and how they formed.

I am checking your photostreams.
WIll be doing comments and catching up tomorrow.
I lost all recent activity pages except for the last 4 days.
In the Help Group I noticed I am not the only one, however it is extremely unhandy after having been on a break here.
How to return visits and comments from new people.
I mean, ... the ones I follow I visit anyway, but I feel a bit sad that I lost track on comments on the older photos and they were there. I might not have been active here, but I still enjoyed your photostreams while away, and checked my own activity every once in a while....what to do....
Will start posting from tomorrow as well....
Early in the morning, unfortunately we didn't find any of this nice species in rest mode.
Later in the morning we did find some which were already very active.
Then, the extra mm's are very handy to capture them when they are active and shyer.
Handheld shot.
Like any good tourist, I had to take a picture of this historic monument. It's not anything too brilliant, or magnificent, but it is a quaint, even respectable landmark to commemorate Active World's narrative of when the world was born, and who was its first citizen. There's a bit more that would be interesting to know, such as who this first citizen was in the real world, and what their relation to Active Worlds was. Was this Cy person part of the team that created Active Worlds, or is this the first unique individual that signed up to become a citizen? A lot of questions, just from one statue and its simple homage.
Note: I have come to consider places like Worlds and Active Worlds as being open virtual worlds. These were the pioneers of virtual spaces on the internet, and among the first to quote Snow Crash, even begin to coin 'metaverse' and web3.0 in trying to explain what they are. Therefore, any group that, in a general sense, speaks of themselves as an open world, open life, virtual world, web3.0, or hypergrid, seems appropriate appropriate groups to add them to. After all, these virtual worlds were very much ahead of the game and developed a lot of the aspects that make up our virtual world experiences even to this day. Not only did they have teleportation to different regions, but to different servers, even without utilizing a hypergate, but simply by teleporting to that server, as long as you had that server's coordinates. If you don't agree with this definition, let me know, and I won't post these in your group.

43 Junction Road used to have two silos that operated from 1893 to as early as the mid-1980s. It was known as Queen City Mills and Campbell Flour Mills, however, most people know it as the Maple Leaf Mills silos where one was demolished in the early 2000s and St. Mary's Cement had the other silo in use until the winter of 2014 when the last silo got demolished. They will be demolishing the mall behind it, with a supermarket and gym to make way for 5 or 6 towers.
It's already impossible to get around here during rush hour and on the weekend. Not sure who wants to live next to a large active rail yard and mainline either, but meh?
Across the way from the drive in is the downtown area of the tutorial/welcome area. It's ok, for a prop, but not much there to explore. but this city scape with the airplane taking off overhead looks pretty cool.

Killdeer are shorebirds, but this one and its mate were out on the western Oklahoma prairie in the middle of a prairie dog town. They were actively foraging, for what I don't know. There isn't much insect habitat in a dog town. Our beautiful world, pass it on.

The view towards Mount Baker from the top of Herman Saddle, after a rigorous climb along the Chain Lakes Loop.
"Mount Baker (Lummi: Qwú’mə Kwəlshéːn; Nooksack: Kw’eq Smaenit or Kwelshán), also known as Koma Kulshan or simply Kulshan, is a 10,781 ft (3,286 m) active glaciated andesitic stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc and the North Cascades of Washington in the United States. Mount Baker has the second-most thermally active crater in the Cascade Range after Mount Saint Helens. About 30 miles (48 km) due east of the city of Bellingham, Whatcom County, Mount Baker is the youngest volcano in the Mount Baker volcanic field. While volcanism has persisted here for some 1.5 million years, the current glaciated cone is likely no more than 140,000 years old, and possibly no older than 80–90,000 years. Older volcanic edifices have mostly eroded away due to glaciation.
After Mount Rainier, Mount Baker is the most heavily glaciated of the Cascade Range volcanoes; the volume of snow and ice on Mount Baker, 0.43 cu mi (1.79 km3) is greater than that of all the other Cascades volcanoes (except Rainier) combined. It is also one of the snowiest places in the world; in 1999, Mount Baker Ski Area, located 9 mi (14.5 km) to the northeast, set the world record for recorded snowfall in a single season—1,140 in (29 m; 95 ft).
Mt. Baker is the third-highest mountain in Washington and the fifth-highest in the Cascade Range, if Little Tahoma Peak, a subpeak of Mount Rainier, and Shastina, a subpeak of Mount Shasta, are not counted. Located in the Mount Baker Wilderness, it is visible from much of Greater Victoria, Nanaimo, and Greater Vancouver in British Columbia, and to the south, from Seattle (and on clear days Tacoma) in Washington.
Indigenous peoples have known the mountain for thousands of years, but the first written record of the mountain is from Spanish explorer Gonzalo Lopez de Haro, who mapped it in 1790 as Gran Montaña del Carmelo, "Great Mount Carmel". The explorer George Vancouver renamed the mountain for 3rd Lieutenant Joseph Baker of HMS Discovery, who saw it on April 30, 1792." (Wikipedia)

As its name implies, the fishing cat (Prionailurus viverrinus) predominantly preys on fish. Largely active at night, fishing cats are good swimmers and have been observed diving for fish, as well as scooping them out of the water with their paws. These cats will also prey on small mammals, snakes, snails and birds.
This is a heavily built, medium-sized cat with an elongated head, rather short legs and a short tail. Head-body length ranges from 60 to 85 cm, tail length from 20 to 33 cm, height at shoulder about 40 cm. Body weight varies from 5 to 15 kg. Females are smaller than males. Males are about twice the size of a domestic cat.
Their olive-gray fur has black or dark brown stripes and rows of spots in horizontal streaks running along the length of the body.
When swimming, the fishing cat may use its short, flattened tail like a rudder, helping control its direction in the water.
Fishing cats live an average of 12 years, but have been known to live more than 15 years in captivity.
The fishing cat is distributed throughout southern and southeast Asia, found in northeastern India, the foot of the Himalayas in Nepal and India, and a few scattered areas in Bangladesh, Indus Valley Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Thailand, Burma and in the Indonesian Islands of Sumatra and Java. However, these cats are not found all throughout this broad area because of their habitat preferences. They are strongly tied to densely vegetated areas near water, in marshes, mangroves, rivers, and streams.
This picture was taken in Zoo Duisburg, Germany.

The blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra), also known as the Indian antelope, is an antelope native to India and Nepal. It inhabits grassy plains and lightly forested areas with perennial water sources. It stands up to 74 to 84 cm (29 to 33 in) high at the shoulder. Males weigh 20–57 kg (44–126 lb), with an average of 38 kg (84 lb). Females are lighter, weighing 20–33 kg (44–73 lb) or 27 kg (60 lb) on average. Males have 35–75 cm (14–30 in) long, ringed horns, though females may develop horns as well. The white fur on the chin and around the eyes is in sharp contrast with the black stripes on the face. The coats of males show a two-tone colouration; while the upper parts and outsides of the legs are dark brown to black, the underparts and the insides of the legs are white. Females and juveniles are yellowish fawn to tan. The blackbuck is the sole living member of the genus Antilope and was scientifically described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758. Two subspecies are recognized. The antelope is native to and found mainly in India, while it is locally extinct in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Formerly widespread, only small, scattered herds are seen today, largely confined to protected areas. During the 20th century, blackbuck numbers declined sharply due to excessive hunting, deforestation, and habitat degradation. The blackbuck has been introduced in Argentina and the United States. In India, hunting of blackbuck is prohibited under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. The blackbuck has significance in Hinduism; Indian and Nepali villagers do not harm the antelope. 26665
Beauty is a reflection of divine bliss and, since God is Truth, the reflection of His bliss will be that mixture of happiness and truth which is to be found in all beauty.
Forms allow of a direct, 'plastic' assimilation of the truths - or of the realities - of the spirit. The geometry of the symbol is steeped in beauty, which in its turn and in its own way is also a symbol. The perfect form is that in which truth is incarnate in the rigour of the symbolical formulation and in the purity and intelligence of the style.
Beauty mirrors happiness and truth. Without the element of 'happiness' there remains only bare form - geometrical, rhythmical or other - and without the element of 'truth' there remains only a wholly subjective enjoyment or, it might be said, luxury. Beauty stands between abstract form and blind pleasure, or rather so combines them as to imbue veridical form with pleasure and veridical pleasure with form.
Beauty is a crystallization of some aspect of universal joy; it is something limitless expressed by means of a limit.
Beauty is in one sense always more than it gives, but in another sense it always gives more than it is. In the first sense the essence shows as appearance; in the second the appearance communicates the essence.
Beauty is always beyond compare; no perfect beauty is more beautiful than another perfect beauty. One may prefer this beauty to that, but this is a matter of personal affinity or of complementary relationship and not of pure aesthetics. Human beauty, for instance, can be found in each of the major races, yet normally a man prefers some type of beauty in his own race rather than in another; inversely, sometimes affinities between qualitative and universal human types show themselves to be stronger than racial affinities.
Like every other kind of beauty artistic beauty is objective, and so can be discovered by intelligence, not by "taste". Taste is indeed legitimate, but only to the same extent as individual peculiarities are legitimate, that is, just in so far as these peculiarities translate positive aspects of some human norm.
Different tastes should be derived from pure aesthetic and should be of equal validity, just as are the different ways in which the eye sees things. Myopia and blindness are certainly not different ways of seeing - they are merely defects of vision.
In beauty man ’realizes’, passively in his perception and externally in his production of it, that which he should himself 'be' after an active or inward fashion.
When man surrounds himself with the ineptitudes of an art that has gone astray how can he still 'see' what he should 'be'? He runs the risk of 'being' what he 'sees' and assimilating the errors suggested by the erroneous forms among which he lives.
Modern satanism is manifested, no doubt in a very external way but in the most directly tangible way and in the way which makes the greatest inroads, in the unintelligible ugliness of forms. 'Abstracted' people, who never 'see' things, none the less allow themselves to be influenced in their general mental outlook by the forms around them to which they sometimes, with astonishing superficiality, deny all importance, just as though traditional civilizations did not unanimously proclaim the contrary. In this connection the spiritual aesthetics of some of the great contemplatives will be recalled as evidence that, even in a world of normal forms, the sense of the beautiful may acquire a special spiritual importance.
I'm not convinced that Night Heron is the most appropriate name for this bird as all the ones I have seen have been active in the daytime!
It was the only wet day during a week in Hungary's bird-rich Hortbagy National Park when I encountered this heron - just 3 metres away behind a glass-fronted bird hide. I was ferreting about in the bushes outside the lakeside hide (looking for caterpillars!) when I saw this heron parachute in. I had a feeling it had landed on or near the reeds in front of the hide, so I entered as silently as I could and my camera was already mounted on a tripod ready for action. As I clicked away, I knew the bird could hear the noise of the camera - but was puzzled because he couldn't see me behind the one-way view glass. It's a shame it was raining and the light was poor, but it was an unforgettable moment to be so close to such a special bird.
Thanks for taking the time to view and comment on my photographs – it is greatly appreciated and encouraging!

Active Assignment Weekly: Wrong
To me, everything is wrong about this photo, yet I wanted so badly to make it work. It seemed to me that in this image, you see a boy's soul coming out of him. But I'm not used to doing slow exposures, so I was fiddling around with it while these two boys were playing basketball in the park last night. I wanted to capture more concrete images of them. Instead you see one boy and the other's movement across the court on the right, which looks like the boy in the white walked across the court and returned. What I should have done is looked up the best way to use shutter speed with people in action during the night. But I didn't, and this is what I got. I still love it, though, for some reason, even though it's not the best slow exposure.
Hello Everyone and happy Sunday and Memorial day eve. :)
I wanted to take a moment and give a huge hug and kiss to all our active Military, Veterans, Police Officers and Firemen. Thank you for all you do each and everyday, protecting us and helping in the time of need, you are very much appreciated and cherished and wish you all the happiness and joy in your and your families lives. :)
I was laying on my sofa this morning browsing Amazon and other sites on my tablet looking at clothes and some other items, that I needed to purchase, tapping the "Add Item" while still in my pajamas and sipping coffee, when it came to me, this was wonderful to be able to do this, but also very depressing, being locked away like a prisoner in Alcatraz for the third month it seems and having no real human contact except at the office and when I go to the market. While in the veggie section , in my mind i was begging someone to come up and squeeze my ass! LOL. Just some form of human contact. It made me remember before the internet really became a thing in the late nineties and when there was shopping to be done, I remember my Mother and my Aunt would dress up on a Saturday morning their hair all done, makeup and heels, driving into the city to meet friends for a luncheon and then some shopping. My sister and i had no real idea of this when we were very small children, we just would sit on the bed and watch our Mother dress and ready herself, give us a kiss and tell us to behave and listen to our Father and she would see us later that afternoon. That happened once or twice a month and she would come home with a shopping bag or two. It was when my sister and I became older that she and my Aunt on occasion brought us along on their afternoon Saturday shopping excursion and to experience what shopping was. In the nineties and early 2000's shopping was an experience, having a luncheon in a nice restaurant, going through a store that was five floors, being able to touch and feel clothes, trying them on and seeing things and picking them up in your hands and feeling the quality. It was not about the buying, we were not a rich family and could have whatever we wanted, our Father would kill us and then send us off to boarding school. No, it was about having the experience and being out where people were and where energy was. Being all dressed up and close with family and friends, it was that human contact and communication that made it so special and meaningful, even with something so superficial as "Shopping" because that was not what it was really about, it was about being part of a small tribe, the women coming together to talk and share, to gossip, laugh and connect with one another. That is what I miss today and what I believe is hurting us as a society in part,
as more and more of us shop online and less going to an actual department store. When we order food delivered to us and go less and less to the restaurants, when theaters of plays and dances stop and events become cancelled, I am very fearful that we will loose what society we have left, we need that human contact, we need our tribe, we need that community of being together in the same boat and taking care of one another, but if we forget to even know how to talk with one another, how will we remember how to trust and love one another. After laying there on the sofa for a long while thinking about this and wonderful memories, I determined myself to have hope and have decided to actually dress up and go to an open store next weekend and do some shopping and sit in a cafe and have some lunch and to talk to a stranger and hopefully bring a smile to their day. :)
I suggest we all do that this week and weekend, put the phones and computers away at least once this week and actually communicate with another human being face to face. reminding ourselves we are all of the same tribe and we need and have love for one another. :)
Have a wonderful Memorial Day
tomorrow and thank you for allowing me to share my photo with you, I forgot to talk about it, it is my favorite black latex power suit outfits with large hat and my purse, all ready to hit the sales and then pounce my SL friends afterwards. I hope you enjoy!
xoxo,
Hildda
Taken at Porthleven Cornwall UK. This active fishing harbour is usually full of boats but the recent storms in the South West of England have been relentless, causing the protective baulks at the entrance to be smashed to pieces - weighing in excess of 2 tonnes each it gives you an idea of the amount of force generated by the incoming waves. After the sinking of 10 boats it was decided to remove the remaining ones. This has not happened in the past 125 years and is a real once in a lifetime event for the village. Having grown up in the village i am both amazed and saddened by this photo.
