In my fantasy I see a fair world, where everyone lives in peace and honesty.
I dream of souls that are always free, as a cloud that floats full of deep humanity.
In my fantasy I see a bright world even the nights are not so dark...
Here’s an image of the city of my residence when it’s not flirting with the fog! ;o)
This was also the very last photo I took in 2012 on a very early and cold December morning. Looking back at my Seattle inventory alone, I took roughly 3,700 photos in 2012, almost exactly 100 less than the year before.
It’s odd.
For some reason, I feel this number is extremely low. (Note: My point may have been misunderstood by some -- I find the number 3,700 low for one year, not the difference of 100 images between 2011 and 2012). When I travel to a different city for my portfolio, I can take as many as 4,000 photos in much less than a week. Perhaps, it’s because Seattle is “home”, so I’m never in a rush compared to New York or San Francisco or Alaska where limited time is of the essence. I sleep a lot less when I’m on a photographic mission. It’s terrific!
Wishing you all a fabulous and enjoyable weekend in your relative locations around the planet!

Peñíscola, frequented by me in the past, obsequiarme wanted to welcome me with its warmth, its light and wonderful colors. The very soft sunset hues, and the dawn of intense and bright colors. A privilege, pure magic!
The lake was partly frozen topped with a light covering of snow in patches. I was drawn to the green of the tree which gives a subtle contrast to the prevailing white. (For those old enough to remember, the title is inspired by a Jethro Tull song ).
My recommendation is to view in Light box: L
I've got loads of versions of this view but finally chose the one I took with the long lens. Can you see the birds?

----------------------
Peñíscola is situated on an isthmus, a rocky peninsula, originally joined to the mainland only by a sandy isthmus, which made it easy to defend, but occasionally flooded and was buried under the sea water. Currently, due to the construction of the harbor and the buildings on the isthmus, this curious fact has gone. On the rock stands the old town, which stands the castle of Papa Luna, Peñíscola dividing the coast into two halves quite different. It has wide beaches both north and south of the peninsula of the castle. The municipality of Peñíscola includes one of the most pristine coastal mountains of the Valencian coast, the Sierra de Irta, which ends in the sea on a rocky coast and some low points, high cliffs, like the Badum. The mountain occupies the southern two-thirds of the term of 81 km ². The northern part is a small floodplain shared with Benicarló and reaches from the sea to the peaks of Puig. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peniscola
Another classic winter postcard view on Turku Cathedral and Aura river. I think the man walking in the river makes it bit more interesting.

This really does need to be seen large and on black! Really!
Yes, I know it's a bit of an arty title, but then again, it's a bit of an arty shot!
This is actually a rarely taken scene from a hugely popular location - Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in Indonesia, containing Mount Bromo, a currently active volcano.
Sometimes, where there is a violent volcanic eruption, the ground left can collapse, leaving a massive crater knows as a caldera. In this particular one, the Tengger Caldera, it also left five smaller volcanoes in the middle of it; Mount Bromo being the most popular of these.
The land inside the caldera is mostly barren landscape, known as The Sea of Sand, the edges of which can rise up to 600 metres. It was on one of these high edges that I saw this wonderful scene.
Everyone was busy snapping away at the sunrise hitting Mount Bromo (and the other volcanoes) in the middle, whereas I had turned my back to see what was happening behind us.
The low, rising sun was streaming across this tree-filled plain on the lush ground surrounding the caldera. That, coupled with the low-lying clouds in the basin meant that the beams of light from between the trees became very prominent.
At the time when I took this shot, I knew I'd like it, but I wasn't too sure how to process it. I tried black and white first and bingo, that was the one. This is pretty much straight out of camera with just some monochroming, slight denoising, slight selective sharpening and some contrast work.
I think this shot is a love it or hate it shot, but I hope you love it as I do!

Hi I'm just gonna pretend I'm American so this counts as the 2nd week and it's not Monday yet. You can perfectly see how my Sunday night looks like as I'm facetiming the awesomest girl in NY called Gina Vasquez (known as a ballerina). Sorry for the cheezy description, it's so late and I'm ready to get a 4 hour sleep night.
P.S: I have a really important exam tomorrow morning. Yay me and my responsabilty.
Love always, Laura

Aaahhhh, what an awesome evening. :)
I was at a relative's home most of yesterday into the evening hours. With a sudden stomach ache and throbbing headache, I said my goodbyes and went east towards home and couldn't help but notice this amazing dense fog scattered about the rural roads and in towns I drove through on my way back. My shutter finger was feeling itchy, so I pulled into the driveway and ran in to grab my camera gear feeling confident I was going to return home yet again with luck.
My luck was poor, as rain began to fall once I arrived. Without an umbrella or any camera protection I had to be on my way back as I didn't want to risk my camera getting wet over 2-3 good shots.
Likewise while I was out there in the misty fog I walked out into my car's high-beams with a feeling of happiness rushing through me as each several yards I stepped out into the headlight's beams this ghostly white fog halo became more apparent, with a noticeable white arc, corona/glory at its center, as well as my own body and tripod shadow known as the "broken specter."
Some quick info on fog that every atmospheric optic photographer should know:
- FOG forms any time there is moisture present, especially after it has rained, or due to radiational cooling or the air is saturated (100% humidity)
- in order for a great fog to form we need roughly 95-100% humidity or entirely saturated air combined with no more than a 5 degree difference between DEW POINT (the point at which clouds form when temperature drops to that number/temperature..this causes relative humidity to rise thus causing the air to become saturated) and AIR TEMPERATURE
- above I mentioned "radiational cooling," this is known to occur any time of the year actually when there are clear skies at night; the temperature drops of course at night as no sunlight is warming the surface of the earth and at night when clear skies are present, this war air interacts with the cool surrounding air thus causing humidity to spike and create these very low clouds among the surface known as "fog."
I hope some of this info and my story helps you see why I love atmospheric optics and getting out in the fog once it occurs here in Illinois...it truly is a wonder that Mother Nature can do such beautiful artwork on her own.

Jupiter and the Milky Way visible over Mount Shuksan in Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest in Washington.
This was taken at Picture Lake in the National Forest, although there is no lake visible at this time of year. That fact came as a slight surprise to me, but not as much as the 8-9 foot tall sheer cliff of ploughed snow that I needed to climb in order to get from the road to where it used to be. If you look closely, you can see the path I waded through the snow to get to this point.
This is a 2x2 panorama covering a significant portion of the night sky. This used my 16-35mm lens at 16mm, f/2.8, with the camera set to ISO 5000, and with a 30 second exposure time.
The conditions weren't as good as I had hoped, with a reasonable amount of moisture in the air reducing the clarity of the Milky Way and emphasising the glow of the city lights (even in a true dark sky location like Mount Baker, there is still a glow around much of the horizon). However, it's not bad!
Most of the landscape is lit solely by the light of the stars, but there is some light hitting the snow below the trees on the left which is from the Mount Baker Ski Area, closed at night but with some exterior lighting left on.
Significant stars and constellations visible include Betelgeuse, Rigel, Orion's Belt, Aldebaran, Bellatrix, Pollux, Capella, the Pleiades, as well as Jupiter (largest, almost centre), the Double Cluster (containing around 600 stars) and several galaxies (including the smudge at the top right which is the Andromeda Galaxy, estimated to contain over one trillion stars).
Flexing my Photoshop muscles. Fun. Taxing.

I had hoped that this one would be a fiendishly difficult challenge, and so it proved! This is from our Fergus O'Connor Collection, and all that we had on it was Post and telegraph office: exterior view in an unidentified, rural location. I asked if we could improve on this?
Yes, we could! See the comments below for dogged pursuit of an elusive location - definitely Adrigole in West Cork. More tentative was derangedlemur's suggestion that the gentleman in the photo above was Jeremiah Cronin, 28, teacher and husband of Hannah Cronin, 31, Post Mistress, but that too proved to be the case!
All of us here at the National Library would like to thank BearaBoy for going above and beyond the call on this one. He tracked down Peg O'Sullivan, then aged 96, who was a goldmine of Adrigole memories. She knew Jeremiah because he taught the boys in her school, and he was married to Nan Cronin, the postmistress at Adrigole. Peg herself worked in the “new” Adrigole post office from 1934. Our thanks, and very best regards to Peg of Peg's Shop in Adrigole (1916-2016) a mighty woman with a formidable memory!

soldados execrando guerras.
Imagino-a distante e extinta, e contudo

-----------------------------------------------
I think one of the best things of making part of a foreign land or travelling is that , each one of us see a different story of the same place.
Whenever I think of Istanbul, I associate it to its magic, giant bridges that unite Asia with Europa, the modern with the antique, the modern one with the traditional one; then of the magic Bosphourous: its strong winds, good fish...and don't know why- its fishermen..Before telling on other stories, i'll tell you a bit of fisherman tales of Istanbul....Men,women and children...people of all ages.
------------------------------------------------
ps: The main pic is the Ortakoy district of Istanbul, a serious of pics taken during and right after the rain mixed with snow. Pitty that the next day it snowed the whole day and i could've got pics with snow..
