Kilchurn Castle is a ruined 15th and 17th century structure on a rocky peninsula at the northeastern end of Loch Awe, in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. Access to the Castle is sometimes restricted by higher-than-usual levels of water in the Loch, at which times the site effectively becomes a temporary island.

It was the ancestral home of the Campbells of Glen Orchy, who later became the Earls of Breadalbane also known as the Breadalbane family branch, of the Clan Campbell. The earliest construction on the castle was the towerhouse and Laich Hall

This shop window must have been like a magnet to the children (and adults!) of Bridge Street, Waterford - Licorice Allsorts, Mixed Gums, Fry's Shilling and Raspberry Cream Choclate... Really gorgeous array of early 20th century goods on display here!

Our eagle-eyed Niall McAuley noticed that someone in the Poole Photographic Studio had scratched out reflections in Mortimer’s window – a sort of early Photoshopping. Niall could read FAM… …OTEL. He searched through other photos in our Poole Collection and found Breen’s FAMILY HOTEL on Bridge Street opposite Mortimer’s. This gave us an exact address for Mortimer’s at No. 2 Bridge Street.

Thanks to Paul O’Farrell, we now know the girl in the doorway was Mary Mortimer. “She later married a Tommy Corcoran and they ran the shop and adjoining pub after her father died”.

Palamidi is a fortress to the east of the Acronauplia in the town of Nafplio in the Peloponnese region of southern Greece. Nestled on the crest of a 216-metre high hill, the fortress was built by the Venetians during their second occupation of the area (1686–1715).

In Greek mythology, Palamedes was the son of Nauplius , prince of Nauplia who led the Nauplians in the Trojan War.

He is said to have invented counting, currency, weights and measures, jokes, dice and pessoi, as well as military ranks. Sometimes he is credited with discoveries in the field of wine making and the supplementary letters of the Greek alphabet.

This one is for Munich.

For all the fantastic architecture whether the old or the new one.

For all the breweries and the most delicious beer in the world.

For all the rollercoasters at the Oktoberfest which make so many people happy every year.

This is to the people.

To all those people sitting outside in the sun even though it is freezingly cold.

To all those surfers who are surfing no matter the season.

To all those drunken strangers at the Munich beer festival which are friends for one night.

I love you guys, you are my inspiration, you are my life.

On a night where the primary plan (for great night photography) went to pot, I decided to improvise with a plan to head south to the Spanish Peaks with good friend, Jon Blake.

We were hoping for some more cooperative weather (than was predicted up north) and with a big 84% full moon setting at 3:30 am, I figured we had a chance for a good composite image. I was hoping for some good light from the moon just as it set on the horizon followed by some good dark sky shots of the milky way afterward.

This is the view from the Thompson Trail #121 south of the Roosevelt Dam by Roosevelt Lake in the Tonto National Forest.

www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/tonto/recreation/bicycling/recare...

From State Highway 188, the trail quickly climbs along an arroyo and then follows the contour of the ridges above the highway and Roosevelt Lake. After 1½ mile, at the junction with the Cemetery Trail 255, the trail turns south and gradually ascends a broad ridge to the junction with FR 341. This trail is named after Jerome Thompson who served as the district ranger, 1956-1965, for the then-named Roosevelt Ranger District.

As Darrell and I walked back across the campus after a session with the WIU Hot Shots photography club in the University's photography studio, we spied a stand of dandelion stalks softly lit by the setting sun. Neither of us could resist pulling our cameras out and taking some shots. This image of one going to seed is probably only the second dandelion picture that I have posted to flicker in the last couple of years. To obtain the shot, I used the articulating LCD (instead of the viewfinder) while holding the camera down near the ground. It was processed in Lightroom 5 using a radial filter.

My attitude towards these prolific and tenacious weeds has radically changed since moving out into the countryside of western Illinois. I used to fruitlessly try to eradicate them from the lawn... but now, because of the sheer overwhelming number of them and the huge size of the lawns out here, I am content to keep them mowed down with the rest of the grass. :D

Love this line up of men, boys, donkeys and dog outside Ballydehob in Co. Cork!

The dog owner is absolutely ensuring that his dog is recorded for posterity by holding the dog immobile. Amazingly Donkey #1 is also holding his pose perfectly face on to the camera, while Donkey #2 is adamant that his best side is captured.

And what's going on with the boy at extreme right - singing? reciting? yawning?

#1 on Explore on 4/28/2013 Finally, you arrive at this magic spot overlooking the vast expense of glittering and transparent water with infinite nuanced aqua blue shades, rimed by soft golden sand and rocks, with graceful palm trees and lush tropical vegetation bowing over it, forming a perfect frame. Overcome by happiness, you can feel the sands as fine as baby powders scratching under your feet and warm water of white froth gently touching your senses. Colorful coral reefs, just below the surface of the water, teeming with jubilant sea creatures, reflect the sun rays with a shimmering dispersing of light like the beauty of a diamond. The beach is somehow deserted, so you are the only one at this corner of the paradise. You feel incredibly serene and happy in tranquility.

Even though the magic is impossible to capture in the confine of an image, the glimpse of it again and again allows you to reflect on the scene, to feel free, free to fly, to enjoy.

I've been in this beautiful library several times before. It was always so crowded, that I even didn't think about taking the camera out. Guess I was lucky this time...

Info

Adjoining the cathedral of Siena is the Piccolomini Library, housing precious illuminated choir books and frescoes based on designs by Raphael.

The visual impact of these very colourful frescoes is stunning. The frescoes tell the story of the life of Siena's favourite son, cardinal Enea Silvio Piccolomini, who eventually became Pope Pius II.

In the middle of the library is the famous statue Three Graces, a Roman copy of a Greek original.

I've been living in Hong Kong for quite sometime now, and everyday I still see something amazing. Beautiful isn't it? :)

Starbucks Coffee Company recently invited me to make a presentation about night photography for its internal photography club. It was a terrific event for which I had nearly a month to prepare. I was never nervous once until a few seconds after the presentation started. A bout of apprehensiveness struck me, which was really all in my head. Nothing unfortunate or embarrassing occurred!

Fortunately, I had a very good-natured and engaging audience. After a brief microphone sound-check took place two minutes into the discussion, and a few playful quips into the mic (i.e. Recall Joey’s popular quote from the “Friends” television series, “How You Doin’???”), I was ready to go! Laughter from the audience is always reassuring.

There was a turnout of approximately 70 individuals, and the head of the photo club told me he couldn’t remember the last time a presenter received audible applause at the conclusion of a presentation. I thought I could have done a lot better, but the overall feedback I received was -- to my delight -- extremely positive. Like most human beings, I am my own worst critic. On top of that, amidst the preparation, I was exhausted from multiple aspects of my daily routine from the previous month leading to the event. No complaints, though. Every minute and every second of this photography venture has been worth the effort.

If you would like to see the “Introduction to Night Photography” presentation (revised to target an online audience) and the concluding photo video, both are currently on my official blog. Pictures taken during the presentation are posted there as well. If anything, viewers can take humor in my nerdy voice and fashion sense. Please feel free to share the presentation and video with your friends and colleagues.

This is a view of Seattle’s SoDo (South Downtown) neighborhood, which is essentially the city’s warehouse district adjacent to Harbor Island, which serves as the Port of Seattle. Starbucks’ world headquarters is located in SoDo. I love the bright lights of the port in combination with the thick clouds engulfing the Olympic Mountains along the horizon.

Even Seattle’s warehouse district has an alluring charm!
