Picking the second one to post on this comeback tour was harder than the first!! :-))
The above as seen in NYC's Central Park, they have a man made lake where they race toy boats.
Thanks again everyone for all the well wishes and the welcome back!!

Have received a few requests to post together Orvieto's and Siena's cathedral. Here they are. You can see the many similarities between one and the other. But it is still unclear which one influenced the other. What is certain form an architectonic point of view is that Orvieto's is built all in the same style while Siena's started in Florence's style (see lower part) and ended up like Orvieto's (upper part).
The young new leaves of the tree fern (Cyatheales) grow like spirals before they unfurl. The sunlight put them in the right light ;-).
While many ferns are able to achieve a widespread distribution because of their spore reproduction, tree fern species tend to be very local. This makes their species much more susceptible to the effects of local deforestation. It is not known why species are not more widespread, especially considering that they have sufficient height to have a greater chance of getting spore into the wind stream.
Where feral pigs are a problem, such as in some Hawaiian rainforests, they will knock over tree ferns to root out the starchy pith, killing the plant (Wikipedia).

... I apologize in advance for bringing you yet another one!
This is #7 in the series {and that doesn't even take into account the ones I posted on Instagram}! If you are interested in seeing the Instagram versions, you can check out my Instagram gallery here: statigr.am/pixelmama I'd love to find out who else is on Instagram!!
As you can see from the SOOC in comments, I slid the heck out of this image. The originals below are the middle & under-exposed images of a 3-bracket set. The over-exposed image was totally blown out. The sky in the under-exposed image of the set is what I was going for in the sky, but the surfers were too dark and not in a good position like the middle exposure image. I started with an image blend, but it was a hand-held bracket shot and it didn't line up at all! Imagine that! *note to self: use tripod for bracketed shots*
To begin my slide, I selected the middle-exposure image and processed using my standard Photoshop edits {levels, H/S, etc.}. I then opened it in RadLab . I really like RadLab with the endless possibilities and tweaking you can do with it.
The final step was a fine-tuning in Nik Viveza. Of all the plug-ins I have, I think I use Viveza the most. The final image looks completely different, doesn't it? Sliding is so much fun!
Hope everyone is having a Marvelous & Happy Sliders Sunday!!

I know Phacelia (Scorpionweed) already a long time. Many species are cultivated as garden plants and honey plants. I love this wonderful flower which attracts bees and bumblebees.
Now I saw it for the first time planted between the wine rows and like the blue colour between the green lines. I think the wingrowers use it as green manure how I used to do in my own garden many years. This vineyard is in Kleinheppach (Region Stuttgart, Germany).

Representa o conhecimento científico acerca do universo.

Busy doing summer things, so I'm pulling a beach fence from the archives. I know it looks summery, but it was taken back in October. This man walked back and forth in front of me several times. I was lying on my side in the grass and I don't think he even saw me!! LOL!! I'm such a creeper!
Happy Fence Friday Folks!! It's the weekend!

Fog trails in Yosemite Valley | Yosemite National Park
UPDATE 6/29/12: Sorry for being mostly offline all of this summer...I'm pretty much in the middle of nowhere all summer and high speed internet is a thing of civilization. I'll try to check my email and flickr mail at least a few times per week, so feel free to drop me a message or whatnot!
I'M DONE WITH FINALS!! I'm officially an upperclassman! Heaven knows how they all went...but summer is here and just two more days till I drive back to the Sierras, this time for the entire summer! I will actually have periodic internet, so I'll be able to log on from time to time to keep up with you all and show you some more Sierra views.
So many of my very favorite images are ones that I haven't shared with you all yet. Until now, this was one of them. I often go through them and tweak things just a teeny bit, because the scenes are so near and dear to me that I'm afraid of not rendering them perfectly and regretting it later. This image has been hanging on my wall for over a year and is usually the first thing people notice when they walk into my room. I don't know if they can truly feel the magic of the moment -- the snow flurries, the swirling wind, the crisp cold, and the silence -- but I hope you can. Close your eyes and imagine the scene...then view it large.
Unfortunately, I haven't had time to go through my backpacking photos from two weeks ago...but they are filled with icy lakes, alpenglow displays, and a sunset from the summit of a 13,900' peak...and I'm really looking forward to processing them and sharing with you all.
Taken in between snowstorms in the Sierras -- it snowed almost all day two days before and all the day after. This was shot around 6AM on a Tuesday morning; I was initially planning on leaving on Monday night to make it back for my first class on Tuesday morning, but then I heard about this storm coming in...and changed my mind!
Fog trails in the Valley are somewhat rare on their own, but a scene like this...was once-in-a-lifetime. A few minutes later, it was gone. Unlike most other images you'll find in my stream, I wasn't alone -- there were a handful of other tripods out, but most other people were either shooting for time lapse videos or not prepared for the fact that it was snowing as the drama unfolded.
They were literally flipping the chain control signs on the Wawona Road as I drove past them. I missed one class that day and barely made the other. My 191 classmates seemed somewhat confused by the smile on my face when I walked into lecture late and smelling like a camper...

I'm home from my school trip and honestly I didn't shoot much except the last day where I asked if someone wanted to go down to the river.
I had a few great days. We were in south of Norway, and the nature was so nice. I have been climbing, rafting in a 7 degrees cold norwegian river, go-kart. Really had a few days with much adrenalin! It was great :)
Now I have some catching up to do.. !
Also, thank you so much Moritz, for writing me such a sweet testimonial. <3 Please go to his stream and check him out if you haven't already, he is amazing! :)
One of the most impressive views from the south tip of Canyonlands. The depth of the White Rim is quite visibile just down from 1600 meters height and it goes down for 600 meters more... the cute, lone pine on the edge has been my company for a blessed rest after a long hiking around the area, always facing the immense voids as a fatal attraction for me. A selfie is below.
My MP3 was playing this song (really!)

Boats moored in St Katharine Docks getting ready for the Diamond Jubilee Pageant down the Thames.
I watched with trepidation as the two very elderly ladies you can see at the side of the boat in the foreground made their way very precariously from the jetty to the first boat as I felt sure they were going to fall into the water. They then crossed to the second boat, then to the third so I thought phew, they've made it! Oh no, they had a good look round & then proceeded to make their way back! Don't think they had anything to do with the boats, they just decided to go out there for the view! I just couldn't watch their hazardous journey back so I moved on!
Haven't really been out catching too much over the past couple of weeks so I'm uploading a shot I have been meaning to upload for a while from Burnham-On-Sea. This shot gives me faith that despite the weather forecast for rain next weekend when I'm in Cornwall that amazing sunsets can happen. The hours leading up to this shot were covered with lots and lots of rain and very high winds however sadly the majority of rainy days in the UK don't end with this much colour and beauty in the sky.
Anyways enjoy :)

Fairbrook Naze, Kinder Scout, Peak District, UK
Headed up onto Kinder Scout yesterday afternoon in readiness for sunset. Kinder is a plateau which is the highest point of the Peak District. Parked at Hayfield and headed up William Clough onto the plateau then around to Kinder Downfall (impressive waterfall landmark). It was really overcast with no sign of light hitting the landscape.
So after a while I set off to the Edge (the northern edge of the plateau). I knew the position of the sun would make this a good place to be if the sunset happened. Took a short cut across the the peat bog and moorland. Relatively short section. The OS map showed that the contours were dropping away from me and I had my compass. Still, you need to be very, very careful. People do get lost when the weather rolls in. And those deep peat groughs can be very disorientating.
Anyway, I reached the Edge and headed East to Fairbrook Naze. Altough there was still no light reaching the landscape, this rock was still glowing red a little. I could see a break in the cloud behind me and Manchester was being bathed in light. So I had to wait an hour and sure enough, when the sun dropped below the cloud, the light was spectacular. A fabulous sunset followed and I snapped away as I headed West eventually reaching the car in darkness.

I had almost forgotten how it was like to go out in the water to shoot. The water is getting warmer and warmer indeed :)

On sunday I will be leaving for a school trip.. And I am trying to figure out how to post when I'm gone haha..
This image depicts children in a crate hoisted on board HMAS AUSTRALIA II. The event was the annual children's Christmas party and was hosted on 6 December 1930. The girl wearing glasses on the left is Miss Rosemary Game, daughter of Sir Philip (Governor of New South Wales) and Lady Gwendolen Game. The boy next to her is possibly her brother Philip Game and the boy far right is possibly her other brother, David Game. The girl with pigtails and wearing a hat is possibly Miss Rosemary Budge, daughter of Sir Harry Budge, Secretary to the Governor, Sir Philip Game.

Seen this beautiful Common Brimstone (male) on the Red Campion during a wonderful walk through flowering meadows and fields in the lovely surrounding of Waren, Müritz National Park (Germany).
Thanks Mikul for the great title idea!
On the upper side the male is sulphur yellow and the female white with a greenish tinge but both have an orange spot in the centre of each wing.
The Red Campion (Silene dioica) is a herbaceous biennial or perennial plant, with dark pink to red flowers, each 1.8-2.5 cm across. The flowers are unscented.
Besides the aesthetic value of its flowers, the crushed seeds of red campion have also been used to cure snakebites. The nectar of the flowers is utilised by bumblebees and butterflies, and several species of moth feed on the foliage. (Wikipedia)

(Wikipedia)

Backcountry lake and reflection, sunset | Kings Canyon National Park
Hope I'm not boring you too much with these High Sierra lake shots...because I have a bunch more in the queue :)
This is the long-promised view in the other direction from my photo "Horseshoe" a ways back. Also, if you're paying attention to the dates on my shots, you might notice that this was the evening before my "Leaning Towers" panorama!
This weekend was so stormy that I had to wait two hours huddled near some lonely trees (nice to not be the tallest thing around with all that lightning...) just to make it over the pass. These are the storm clouds clearing back at sunset...I woke up to crystal clear skies the next morning but the clouds quickly built back up and the storm hit even harder. The light was changing by the second. Lots of fun.
I'm headed up to the Sierras this weekend on another backcountry adventure...have a great weekend! As always, all types of feedback are highly welcome.

The picture tells a little girl finally adopted by a family, then the result with a happy ending, after suffering abuse from her real parents with physical violence. Once restored, has found a wonderful family who loves you so well.
I wanted to renew the warm thanks to the wonderful and friendly tutor who was very kind and helpful which I appreciated very much especially the love with which they carry out their commitment to children and a special thank you also and especially to Mother Sister Serafina.

Prigioniera del suo passato
.
…adesso nella stanza aleggia
il tuo dolce profumo muschiato,
tu, o piccola bimba, prigioniera

Prisoner of its past
.
….now hangs in the room
your sweet scent of musk
you, little girl, a prisoner
an ugly, ugly past.
Nights of horrors still resonate
in your memory, making you plunge
in moments of bitter anguish,
the thought of what you had to face.
Now distant in time
are those crazy races, which
you can not forget, but
with pain, still remember.
The girl of your dreams now
are in the sweet sighs of time,
but inexorable and relentless flows
for those who, for so long, your innocence
with ruthless malice has disfigured.

This jetty is 15 mins from home, this was approx. my tenth attempt at capturing some great light at this location...Finally i got some and mighty surreal it was..
It was also a bit of an issue metering it, but this is a single shot capture..
I entered a croparama of this into the Epson Pano awards this year and came away with a Bronze Award, which for my first competition attempt i was very pleased with, gives me something to aim for next year. :-)
Many thanks for looking.
Enjoy.

The Koninklijke Marine (Royal Netherlands Navy) including HNLMS JAVA, HNLMS EVERSTEN and HNLMS DE RUYTER arrived in Sydney on 3 October 1930. The ships berthed at the Oceanic Steamship Company wharf and Burns Philp and Company Wharf in West Circular Quay. The Sydney Morning Herald reported on the 'unfamiliar spectacle' of the Dutch squadron arrival.
On 10 October, the squadron hosted a reception on board JAVA 'as a return for the hospitality they had received while in Sydney'. The SMH reported that distinguished guests were greeted by the Dutch Consul-General Petrus Ephrem Teppema, Madame Carmen Delprat Teppema and Rear-Admiral Kayser.

5XP HDR shot of St. Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan, New York.
Initially, I disliked the construction scaffolding attached to the facade of the Cathedral but I've grown to appreciate it since it highlights the base via the additional light. Didn't know that the roof of the Cathedral also forms a Cross when seen from above~ gotta see if I can find that POV one day!
