Man this place was some good medicine.
I wish I could have taken you all with me to savor it.
The weather and the light were amazing.
My soul feels like it just got the best massage.
My mind feels so much clearer.
My body is restored.
If you can ever get up to Michigan's Upper Peninsula and see Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore you will be doing your soul a favor.
There's something about the majestic beauty of the Earth itself.
It gives us a really good perspective.
I'm so glad that I could share this picture with you.
I hope it's a bright spot in your day.
Love and light.
Fall migrants and post-breeding dispersal birds start moving through Central Florida in June, although peak songbird migration isn't until late September. I found this Prairie Warbler flycatching in my yard this summer. It would fly out into a pack of small flies, nab one and return to the same branch. It did this repeatedly for about five minutes, which made for some nice photo opportunities.

Since 2009, The Economist has rated Vancouver the world’s “most livable city”!
Read more about the Most Livable Cities in 2011 here.
Estimated at 2.3 million people, Vancouver, British Columbia is Canada’s third largest metropolitan area of Canada after Toronto and Montréal.
Some trivia from Wikipedia.org states:
Major film production studios in Vancouver and Burnaby have turned Metro Vancouver into the third-largest film production centre in North America after Los Angeles and New York City, earning it the film industry nickname, "Hollywood North."

For anyone that knows me well knows that my all time favorite target is The Andromeda Galaxy, for the last couple of years it has elluded me as I didn't have a suitable camera/scope combination to give me the right field of view for this target. All this is about to change now I have a TMB92SS.
So my first light target was an obvious one and here are the results from last night (or I should say the early hours this morning) using a one shot color QHY9C. I used an Astro Tech 2" field flattener with no reduction for the native focal length of 506mm, M31 is a very tight fit and stars in the far corners are producing coma, perhaps the backfocus needs tweaking. As this is only a test I'm not too worried as ultimately I will be using a Field Flattener with reducer, I have an AT .8 FF/FR and an Optec .8 FF/FR which I hope to test when we next get some clear skies.
I was pretty happy with the results. Keep tuned here for much much more of M31! :)
Total Exposure Time 3.25 hours.

The Andromeda Galaxy is a spiral galaxy approximately 2,500,000 light-years away in the constellation Andromeda. It is also known as Messier 31, or NGC 224 and is often referred to as the Great Andromeda Nebula. Andromeda is the nearest spiral galaxy to our own, the Milky Way.
From my backyard on a moonless night, the central core is visible to the naked eye as a smudge.

The 2012 Celebration of Lights festival concludes with a dynamic finale in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. This year’s competitors for putting on a fireworks spectacular were Brazil, Vietnam, and Italy. This photo features Italy’s display on August 4th. This annual event typically attracts anywhere between 300,000 and 400,000 spectators.
Taken from Cypress Mountain, one can see the silhouette of Stanley Park in the foreground with English Bay surrounding it to the right. Several boats are dotted in the bay, well within distance of the barge from which the fireworks were launched. Above Stanley Park is Vancouver’s West End neighborhood.
According to the official website (hondacelebrationoflight.com):
The Celebration of Light is not only Vancouver's biggest event, but it's also the largest offshore fireworks competition in the world and attracts up to 400,000 spectators along English Bay each evening. Owned by the Not For Profit Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society, 2012 marks the 22nd consecutive year of the event, which contributes in excess of $39 million in incremental tourism and hospitality spending each year.
The 2012 event will see three new and unique countries competing over three nights on July 28th with Vietnam competing in its first international competition outside its home country, August 1st with Brazil and August 4th with Italy vying for the coveted winning title.

One of the many incredible shots I was able to get on this beautiful, placid evening on the Massachusetts coast. Aside from the setting being beautiful, the sunset was so vibrant. I really lucked out with the calmness of the ocean -- it made the reflection of the clouds possible. All in all the whole thing was pretty magical.

Well it is absolutely awesome to be able to have the time to post my images on Flickr. I have been away for too long to care but I'm not completely out (yet).
A shot from my recent travels to places far and wide.. from some of the most amazing landscapes that I was fortunate to visit, experience and capture.
This scene of the double-humped camels from the cold desert in the Nubra valley in Ladakh, which is up North of India in the state of Kashmir reminds of the how the silk route traders used to traverse the very location many hundred years ago. It was fascinating.
I had absolutely the most amazing time during this trip. Hope you guys have all been good.
I'll catchup with you guys very soon.

After months of planning, I finally made it up to the South Colony Lakes next to rugged fourteeners Crestone Needle and Crestone Mountain. This backpacking trip was fun, but it came with a little sacrifice... 5 miles up through rain and hail (yes, the ground turned white) and my wife waking up to such fierce winds, I thought for a few minutes that I'd see her in our tent rolling across the tundra...
Even still, we saw some incredible sights. At the foot of two of the most rugged mountains in the state, this is a mecca not just for hikers, but for technical climbers. Most everyone we ran into had helmets and ropes which says a lot about the terrain. And since I consider myself a hiker not a climber, I found myself amazed at the terrain these people took on. The point of light near the bottom right corner comes from some climbers getting into position to "scale the needles" between Crestone Peak and Crestone Needle. Needless to say, I was impressed with anyone heading up that route, but at this hour, I was in awe. To put it into perspective, the route down from Crestone Needle is known as the most difficult descent in Colorado.
This panoramic image (coming from 5 vertical captures) was taken from the trail between upper and lower South Colony Lakes near Westcliffe, Colorado. It's a rare opportunity to be so close to so many big, rugged mountains as this location deep in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. I timed the hike and capture (3:37 am) so that the thin moon (13% full) coming up beyond the mountain on the left was just high enough to illuminate the mountains on the right below the milky way. Taken with my new D800, I'll admit I was pretty impressed with the low-light details I was able to capture (even out of the moonlight).

Taken 3/4 of an hour after sunset. It's great to be around the sea where you can make shots after the sun goes down.

Title taken from probably my favourite poet/musician Justin Sullivan. The Opening track from his excellent 'Navigating by the Stars' album. An amazing album with a sea theme.

Get Pushed: For R24 I got paired with www.flickr.com/photos/edsonmatthews . Here is the push he gave me:
"I notice you have a lot of really organic, free-flowing stuff. So, here's what I want you to do. I want you to find a place for a really excellent symmetry shot. Focus on getting those lines really perfect across the frame. If you're up for an extra challenge, see if you can work in--in a delicate way--one of those organic elements as a nice piece of minimalism among all that structure. I look forward to seeing what you'll produce."
This river runs next to my apartment in Beijing. I thought it would be a good place to try. It's probably less symmetrical and more organic than he (or to be honest I) intended. But I'm pleased with the result - it's a shot I probably wouldn't have taken without the push.

This is from Sunday Streets San Francisco a few weeks ago. It was taken in The Mission district, much of which was converted into a pedestrian mall for the day a few Sundays ago. Yep, they block off all the streets to motorized traffic and people get freely walk, skate and bike around the neighborhood. It was really fun, and there were lots of kids, teens, couples and families out enjoying the event.
Full album on Facebook (link).
On one of the side streets off 24th, I noticed a bunch of restored vintage cars out. I didn't have much time to stroll around, so I didn't get a chance to talk to the owner of this car or to do much of anything except quickly snap a few frames. It's a Chevy, but I wish I knew what model and year it is. Maybe someone will know. I assume that tubular thing that looks like a jet engine on the passenger side is some kind of heating or cooling unit, but I'm not sure.
I hope everyone has a great Monday and an altogether fantastic week!

● The patients that are healthy. And the healthy, which in reality are the sick. ●
______________________________________________________________________________
This provocative thesis of Erich Fromm formulated as a result of his decades-long exploration of the so-called normality. His findings have led to him to demand a new "science of humans " and the humanistic value judgments even realizing it.
The already legendary philosopher and psychoanalyst in clear sharp and far-sighted analysis, where the disease of modern society and the individuals are, and he has ways to heal them.

Our past molds the person we are. We cannot choose our family and their influence, but we can make the most of our circumstances in a positive light.
Family is weird thing. Some families are close, some have profound disagreements and rifts. Ultimately they are part of your life, even if only in the past tense.
Family dynamics are wrought with emotional drama and all the baggage that comes with it. Often if requires diplomacy of great magnitude to maintain some peace and stability, not unlike politics.

Pontes Colombo Sales e Pedro Ivo Campos
Possui quatro pistas no sentido ilha.
The longest slide! I've worked with this image before and I could treat it a thousand ways and be happy with most. I started with the building and Fireworks, added a little yellow/gray image mix and then the NYC shot. That was exactly what I wanted and all it needed was a little SC. I created a B&W layer which I masked and erased most with a wide brush leaving only a little B&W around the edges, a giant SC play!
The End!! (For now!) Time for R&R but I will catch up and THank YoU!!!!
Happy Slider Sunday Complication!!! HSS

Thanks for inviting me, for the good wine, the fabulous dinner but most of all for the good time, the laughter and the companionship!

Venice is a city in northeast Italy sited on a group of 118 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges. It is located in the marshy Venetian Lagoon which stretches along the shoreline between the mouths of the Po and the Piave Rivers. Venice is renowned for the beauty of its setting, its architecture and its artworks. The city in its entirety is listed as World Heritage Site, along with its lagoon. The gondola is a traditional, flat-bottomed Venetian rowing boat, well suited to the conditions of the Venetian lagoon. For centuries gondolas were the chief means of transportation and most common watercraft within Venice. In modern times the iconic boats still have a role in public transport in the city, serving as traghetti -ferries over the Grand Canal. They are also used in special regattas rowing races held amongst gondoliers. The gondola is propelled like punting, except an oar is used instead of a pole. Their primary role today, however, is to carry tourists on rides at fixed rates. There can be six people in a gondola and a ride of 40 minutes during the day according to the official rate costs € 80 euros and evening EUR 100. Additional money if the gondolier sing a song! But you can have a very short, short gondola ride to the traghetto, a public gondola that in a few places to cross the Grand Canal makes. Such a trip costs only 50 cents!
Photo of a young girl in Venice dressed already as a traditional Gondolier in red white. On the background you can see the San Giorgio on Isola do San Giorgio Maggiore. In August 2010, Giorgia Boscolo became Venice's first female gondolier. Perhaps this young girl will become a Gondolier too.
Zo'n tochtje kost slechts 50 cent!
