panorama view sunset at Ehrwald, Tirol - Austria

This year has not been one of the better years in my life and I have really struggled just to continue with what needs to be done,

I have had a hard time breaking loose to focus on photography or even art. Every so often I force myself to not think of life and just take photos. This is another shot of Mono Lake from my recent road trip. I hope you all enjoy these little glimpses into my life.

On a side note I have been looking at the Flickr Explore lists every day, and looking back at what I am doing wrong with my art, and at first was bummed when my work was not measuring up, but now I have made my peace, and I have come to the conclusion that my work is not algorithm friendly and not worthy of "Explore" status.

The Roche de Vergisson is not as famous as its neighbor the Roche de Solutré, but it's just as beautiful. It's easy to climb.

On its summit, you discover a vast landscape and breathtaking views of the Roche de Solutré. The charming village of Vergisson nestles below.

Location: Kubah Nat. Park, Borneo

Toxicity: Mildly venomous (but non-medically significant to human)

The more stressed this bronzeback gets, the bluer (more blue) it become. The species is most easily identified when its anterior body is inflated in defense : at such times the vivid blue of the interstitial skin (the skin between the scales) is revealed. Though the Elegant Bronzeback also has blue interstitial skin, this appears to be far more intense in the Blue Bronzeback.

Toxicity: Non-venomous

A beautiful moonlight

On a beautiful summer evening, I dined with family on a terrace along the Saone river, in a small restaurant in the north of Macon that makes an excellent Creole cooking.

The place is very quiet, and we had a fantastic weather. We feasted and drank a nice bottle of Viré Clessé ( white wine from Macon region).

We left the table as the night fell and made a little walk along the river.

There were no clouds in the sky, the moon shone and was reflected in the Saone river, and the stars appeared gradually. This magical spectacle offered by our beloved nature made us feel all the peace of the place, and filled us with joy and gratitude, it ended well the evening.

Despite the possible typo, the thought of a "Chevalier" getting married should encourage research into this fine wedding group from the Poole Studios in Waterford. We in Library Towers love these old shots for the people, the clothes and especially the hats of the ladies which tell so much about the era and the status locally, nationally and sometimes internationally.

And indeed there was lots to note (local and international) about this picture. Carol Maddock quickly confirmed that this wedding party is marking marriage of Chevalier Thomas O'Loughlin and Kathleen Murphy on 27 September 1911. The wedding took place at the O'Loughlin Memorial Church, County Kilkenny (a church whose main benefactor was O'Loughlin himself - funded by family wealth from the Australian gold-rush. Yes, really!). The reception took place at the Club House Hotel in Kilkenny, with a firm suggestion from Niall McAuley that the image was taken at the hotel. Carol provides an extract from the Kilkenny People on the day:

"... in the O'Loughlin Memorial Church in St. John's Parish, when Chevalier Thomas O'Loughlin, Killarney Villa, Ballarat, Australia, was united in marriage with Miss Kathleen Murphy, fifth daughter of Mr. James Murphy, Ballybur Castle, Co. Kilkenny. Chevalier O'Loughlin (or Count O'Loughlin, as he now is[...]) is a prominent figure in the Catholic world in Ireland and Australia. A native of Kilkenny and the inheritor of a vast fortune in the Southern Continent ... The wedding ceremony was fixed for 8 o'clock...[about thirty priests con-celebrated the mass, even some from Australia!] ... followed by her sisters, the Misses Daisy and Sheela Murphy..."

We're delighted to learn that the bride and groom returned to "Southern Continent" after the wedding, and "both lived, and prospered in Australia".....

One of our better campsites on the way up from Oodnadatta to Finke and Mt Dare where we again caught up with Kim and Venita who had made a detour to Coober Pedy for communications problems!!!

We continued on to Old Andado HS for a very enjoyable roast dinner.. and later returned here on our way south..

ALOFBRID we are now safely home after 31 days on the road and 7,000km later.

We had some great experiences, but failed to achieve the aim of the trip, which was to cross the Simpson Desert around the Rig Road.

This is the second time we have organised this trip and failed, the first time from an injury, this time because of the wettest season across Australia for years it seems.

Floods down the coast, knives from kitchens washed up on Sydney beaches after the dunes and beaches were eroded, and muddy floodways, puddles and ruts and Grey Nomads everywhere wherever we went!

Our travelling companions refused to go home without attempting it, so we left them in Mt Dare with the risk of 25mm rains across the desert and us being stranded 1000km from our trailer and gear in Marree.

Kim and Venita took their all-wheel drive VW Transporter across the French Line. Not an enjoyable trip. Too much traffic, too many big corrugations created by people towing trailers across, and many motor bikes and Quad bikes heading to the end of the Finke Race!

We had a pleasant drive south, but racing the rain, back to our trailer and continued up to Birdsville! Where we ran into K and V again as they came from Big Red!

Robyn was participating in an Australian Desert Expeditions Archaeological Expedition along Eyre Creek in the eastern Simpson Desert, Queensland.

The Australian desert: historically a place of heartbreak or of God. Explorers vanished into it. Pioneers met bitter ends there. Wives killed themselves for loneliness. Nowadays convoys of Toyota tourists charge across it, enjoying its beauty and breadth, but in an ambiguous way, as if there were something in it to conquer. Something dangerous to be put down.

The Protestant Church of St John (German: Johanneskirche) in Stuttgart was built in the Gothic Revival style from 1864 to 1876 by its chief architect, Christian Friedrich von Leins. It lies on a peninsula of the Feuersee (Fire Lake), while the main entrance and tower marks the beginning of the former Johannesstraße (St. John's Street).

After being nearly destroyed in the Second World War, the main church building was reconstructed, but the Gothic vaults were replaced with modern ones and the tower was intentionally left incomplete to serve as a sort of war memorial. (Wikipedia)

Butterfly at the Jardin Botanique

Nothing like a good flip and lots of blending to get this side-by-side selfies of sorts.

After shooting this amazing doorway cloaked in ivy and ferns, I left the camera on the tripod and thought I would get in the picture (I have so many), then I took the same pic of Marybeth. In PS, I tiles the image by flipping MB's side, The center fern looked obviously tiled so I worked on it with the history brush (you can see the resemblance to the one on the left). I also made a bunch of changes to the stone work so it didn't look exactly symmetrical (again, all with a history brush), I even reversed the logo on MB's hat so it appears "normal".
