Rarity in the Park Altenstein. Artists produce watercolors and woodcuts from the plant.

Bad Liebenstein. In the Schlosspark Altenstein near Bad Liebenstein for the first time in about 100 years

flowers an Agave, a unique and impressive event in the life of this plant. This was announced by the Thüringer Schlösser und Gärten Foundation on Friday.

In the past few weeks, the tubing plant had pushed up a five-meter-high flowering stem, now 21 inflorescences were formed. For several months the flowering is now expected to be experienced.

"In earlier centuries, the flower of an Agave was a sensation and was regarded as a divine sign", explains Susanne Rott of the castle foundation. These exotic species originating from Central America were cultivated with great effort above all in princely orangery, always in the expectation of flowering. If it occurred after several decades, the inflorescence was measured and the flowers counted.

There is great joy in the botanical peculiarity of the artists at the Schweina Art School. This weekend, a course on natural studies takes place at the summer academy. "Participants will be distributed across the park," reports Aline Burghardt. The flowering Agave is a wonderful motif and will be the source for sketches, watercolors, etchings, abstractions or woodcuts.

Especially in the 18th century, Agave blossoms were made public with reports, prints and even extra-special medals. After all, rulers wanted to underscore the god-willed meaning of this, says the Foundation Thüringer Schlösser und Gärten.

A blooming Agave is also a highlight for gardeners and visitors without this symbolic overcrowding.

Because an Agave can live about 50 years until it blossoms. At the Castle Altenstein it took only 30 years for the current flowering of these Agave.

Many speak about autumn. This season means for lots of flowers the end or death. This young sunflower has still future! A good sign!

Hindeloopen is an old city on the North of the Netherlands on the IJsselmeer. Hindeloopen received city rights in 1225 and in 1368 it became a member of the Hanseatic League. Since the 12th and 13th century, shippers of Hindeloopen undertook journeys to the North and Baltic Sea Coasts. The strong overseas connections with foreign countries and infrequent contact with the hinterland were probably the reasons for the developing of the Hindeloopen language; a mixture of West Frisian, English, Danish, and Norwegian. The shipping trade brought the population of Hindeloopen a great prosperity. The 17th and 18th century were especially golden times. At that time, the people of Hindeloopen spent a lot of money in Amsterdam on precious fabrics and objects, which were supplied through the Dutch East India Company. The rich town developed in those days her own costume and a completely individual style with colorful painted walls and furniture. In the small streets some sea captains houses remind of this time of glory.

This one is shy, for good reason. Look at what we have put the stick figures through. Well they should be afraid, very afraid. This is from a PSA sign in the Taipei MRT at Zhongxiao Xinsheng stop.

On Palm Sunday, the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem is commemorated. As a sign of his kingdom rejoiced (John 12.13-15 EU, EU 21.1 to 11 Mt, Lk 19.28 to 40 EU) to the people he is to come to Jerusalem and scattered palm branches (John 12.13 EU). Palm trees were venerated as sacred trees in many places, such as in Delos were sacred to Apollo. In the Mediterranean they were from ancient times as a symbol of life and victory, especially in Israel, the symbol of independence and the victorious king (

Looks like these chaps are exercising Synchronized Swimming. Fun fact: As a sign of equal opportunity men are allowed to take part in world championships since 2015, but Olympic Games are still a No-Go.

Found on a grave from the 1850s in the Alter Friedhof (old cemetery) in Darmstadt, Germany.

The symbol of the snake devouring its own tail represents cyclicality, unity, or infinity, and it can often be found on classical graves. In the romantic period, the butterfly was a sign of the hope of resurrection (larva, pupa, butterfly), it also represented the soul freed from all material.
