The other area where we are recording sounds is Sanaullah Compound, closer to Mahim railway station, where many kinds of recycling units are stacked against each other. Here, the shredding of plastic, the burning of aluminium furnaces and the sacks of scrap being thrown down from trucks are frequently heard. The screeching sounds from rusty shredding machines make one wonder how the labourers can work without the use of earplugs. For these labourers, most of whom are migrants, Sanaullah is work and home. A little shack of a restaurant, paan kiosks, barbers, an ironing man, chai stalls and various other essentials of daily living function side by side. Against this background, the aural predominance is of men talking business (or gossiping) over phones or with each other. Understandably, they don’t want their conversations recorded.

Walking around trying to be inconspicuous with a recorder in our hands, we realised that some sounds are bound to perish with time and modern lifestyles, such as the sounds of game machines in a very 90s video parlour or the bell of a kulfi seller. Collecting these sounds could be a way of creating an aural museum and complementing visual archives of Dharavi.

Happy holidays

From Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cap-Chat,_Quebec

Cap-Chat is a town in the Canadian province of Québec, in the Regional County Municipality of Haute-Gaspésie, and in the administrative region of Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine. Cap-Chat is found 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) west of Sainte-Anne-des-Monts. As of 2006, Cap-Chat's population is 2,777.

In addition to Cap-Chat itself, the town's territory also includes the communities of Cap-Chat-Est, Capucins, and Petit-Fonds.

There are two theories about the origin of the town's name. One simply holds that the headland called Cap-Chat bore a likeness to a cat ("chat" in French). The other theory is a bit more fanciful. According to a local legend, a cat walking along the shore killed and ate various animals, whereupon the "cat fairy" accused him of having eaten her offspring. For his punishment, the cat was turned into stone for ever.

It seems most likely, however, that the town's name is a corruption of "Aymar de Chaste", who was New France's lieutenant-general in 1603.

The waterfront boardwalk at Cap-Chat has a display of photographs and informative plaques regarding the Second World War Battle of the St. Lawrence between U-Boats and coastal defence ships.

Cap-Chat was one of the prime viewing areas for the total solar eclipse of July 10, 1972. Unfortunately, cloudy skies prevented most observers from viewing the total phase of the eclipse.

On March 15, 2000, the Municipality of Capucins was amalgamated into the Town of Cap-Chat

fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capucins_(Qu%C3%A9bec)

2021 saw the return of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta the first week of October. The balloon fiesta seems to be all about the balloons and the vivid colors. I wanted to try something different

This is the bottle of hand disinfectant jelly that's been in my pocket for almost two years — I don't know how many times I have refilled it. The labels have come off, and I think it looks a lot more interesting for it. Here it's sitting on my desk at work, under it a ruler, behind it my laptop. For some reason, this image makes me think of a Salvator Dali's painting.

I wanted to produce a unique image on the Lips theme but without resorting to asking one of the family to pose for me, crystal balls came quickly to mind because I could mimic the shape of lips with their progressive sizes. The problem was that I only had 4 of them. The answer was reflection so I placed the crystal balls on a glass coffee table but the reflection was not strong enough so I made this composition in Photoshop by flipping the image vertically and horizontally.

nice :-) Thanks all for the compliments!

One of my wedding presents from Irish relatives in 1974. Belleek Pottery Ltd is a porcelain company in Belleek, County Fermanagh, in what was to become Northern Ireland. The factory produces porcelain that is characterized by its thinness and slightly iridescent surface.

Cades Cove never disappoints when Fall colors are abounded. It was a rainy day but a brief break provided an opportunity to capture this peaceful scene (panorama of 3 images).

Astounding Ottobre 2021 image of a nearly empty Piazetta San Marco in our travels to Venice, where normally thousands of visitors roam. As an American visiting Italy, it was amazing to see the impact of covid on tourism. We had Italy all to ourselves.

Yes, it's the smoke from an incense cone. I absolutely loved this challenge and have done many shots. This was one of my favourites because it almost looks like soft floaty fabric rather than smoke. Photographing smoke has quite captivated me. I super love learning new skills and this has been a magical experience. 😍

2 Hours in Griffis

I've had a vision for this angle for about a year, but last weekend was my first opportunity to shoot the location alone without the worry that another photographer might introduce unwanted light to my exposure. This is a blend of 2 exposures. The foreground is 30s at ISO 3200, the sky was made by utilizing the "Live Composite" feature on my camera where my equipment will continuously stack exposures for as long as I want. In this case, I shot 10s exposures at ISO 1600 for 2 hours. During that exposure, I did a little light painting of the lady as well.

The Gear: Olympus OM-D e-M1.2 with the m.Zuiko 25mm f1.2 Pro lens and the Nisi Natural Night filter to help cut down the light pollution and bring out the colors in the stars.

In Post: Initial RAW processing handled by DxO PhotoLab4 and then pushed to On1 Photo RAW 2021.5 for filter work and exposure blending.

Cuckmere Haven: arriving at the beach

Aberystwyth pier during blue hour

I was just going through old photos and thought this was worthy of being posted. I previously posted 2 other shots from this morning, but this shot is from a little earlier in the sunrise. I actually think I may like this image the best of the 3 I posted. I guess it just shows that it's always good to give your photos a second look.
