First day back at work after all the ups and downs of the last couple of weeks and I'm knackered.

I've chosen to post another black and white picture, this time of a tree. I captured this a couple of weeks ago during a walk. I love the look of winter trees in black and white, love the atmosphere and dramatic effect.

Winter Wonderful...

Every once in while I like to pour through my photo archives looking for the one or two that got away, yesterday was one of those days; I was home alone and spent the better part of the day reminiscing and remembering some of the adventures Karen and I have been on. I pulled several images that on second sight caught my eye. I will post two today and perhaps when I have time post a few of the others. Each is wonderful in its own right and can stand on its own as a strong image. I love images that tell a visual story that really do not depend on a lot of explanation.

this image taken after a weather event in February of 2016. the ice hung heavy on the branches bringing down quite a few trees and electrical wires. despite the devastation the beauty was undeniable.

A Happy New Year to you all! I am just waking up from my hibernation now that all the festivities have ended......

When I started school, there was a weather chart we took it in turns to change every day - it had sun, rain, snow, ice, wind, thunder, cloudy, dull. Dull was the first new word I learned, not something my parents ever thought to teach me. As photographers we tend to look for something more dramatic in the weather but sometimes dull does seem to enhance the features being presented. Here is a scene taken late afternoon in winter on the River Itchen, the last tidal part of the river.

Dancing between earth and sky.........

A few Months ago a thick fog covered the entire area presenting the perfect photo opportunity for me and my camera.

This forlorn tree gnarled and twisted without its leaves; seemed to dance in the foreground of this shot. playing hide and seek with the encroaching fog.

November is traditionally the wettest month on the Olympic Peninsula. Time to soak up moisture to mitigate the heat and dry of summer. It can feel pretty dismal though.

"In winter when the dismal rain Comes down in slanting lines

And Wind, that grand old harper,

smote His thunder-harp of pines."

~ Alexander Smith

The trees are standing all sticks & bones. Without their leaves, how lovely they are, spreading their arms like dancers. They know it's time to be still.

Honey, I shrunk the trees...

Snow Covered Road....

Karen and I braved the bitter cold to get some shots of Heart Lake. Southern Ontario was in the middle of a deep freeze, with temperatures nearing -32 Celsius with the wind chill. The wind blew clouds aimlessly across the sky. it was clear and sunny one minute and a blizzard of blinding snow the next.
