Have a happy Winglet Wednesday, wherever you are! Here's a sunset winglet, courtesy of Al

Close up view of B744's winglet while climbing to FL350. This is United 838 enroute Bangkok-Tokyo. Beautiful morning sun touched the blue winglet at approx. 20,000 ft. above Central Thailand.

Reloaded on the flight - so this was a "advance" shot with the M2 and the 50f1.5 M-Nokton.

Those winglets look huge on the ground. Also interesting to note how the wing flexes up, most likely empty of fuel after the trip across the Atlantic.

Viva Las Vegas! Dave, one of our Operations Coordinators, took this cool Winglet Wednesday photo over Vegas on his way to Edmonton. Can you beat it?

Figured a silhouette of the blended winglet seemed right. This FZ40 is one powerful camera.

From the plaque below the blended winglet exhibit:

The Future Is On The Wing

This Blended Winglet was test flown on a Boeing 747-200 in 2000 to prove the viability of Blended Winglets for big transport aircraft.

Blended Winglets are gracefully curved wingtip extensions that measurably enhances the aerodynamic efficiencies, flight characteristics and environmental benefits of corporate and commercial aircraft.

Aviation Partners of Seattle introduced the patented Blended Winglets in 1991. They are now flying on airliners and corporate jets worldwide saving fuel and protecting the environment.

The Museum of Flight is grateful to Aviation Partners, Inc. and Aviation Partners Boeing for their enormous contribution to the world of flight and aerospace.

Was in Seat 31A - Window, so got to get a nice view of the split winglet in flight.

Winglets de todos los tamaños

Winglets, developed at NASA Langley, save fuel by reducing drag-inducing wingtip vortices

Captured through the last row of B774 enroute BKK-ARN. Nice winglet as cruising at FL390, Russian Airspace, with a very clear blue sky in the background.

The winglet of the Embraer 145XR against the pretty North Dakota sky in Dickinson.

Another view of the Robert Esnault-Pelterie (R.E.P.) monoplane, obviously with again modifications at the tail. It seems now a very large elevator (fixed and moveable part) with the rudder also with a very large fixed part.

Robert Esnault-Pelterie was constantly modifying his original R.E.P. 2 design, likely to improve stability and ease of contrrol.

Mark that there is a small winglet just behind the engine section on the side of the fuselage.

Mauirce Guffroy (1868 - 1911) was an early French balloonist who later turned to heavier-than-air aeroplanes like the R.E.P. He never acquired a pilot licence.

Thanks to Ted, one of our Tech Ops planners, for sharing this great photo, taken on his flight home from San Francisco! If you have a great photo for Winglet Wednesday, we'd love to see it, so feel free to add it to the group!
