The weather was far from ideal for planespotting, but it's not like one sees a Boeing 727 everyday in 2006. I never spent the time to find out what this 727 is about... a special charter or is it a converted freighter?
I believe this is C-FLHR.
The wording on the vertical wing actually reads 'Leaving on a Jet Plane" in some weird font. Perhaps Flair still thinks that it's the early 1960s and flying on a jet is a new experience! Well actually come think about it, "Leaving on a 727" would be something that many younger people have never tried before!
A winglet-equipped United 757 comes into San Francisco.
I have repeatedly raved about the "Lesbian-Friendly Skies" of United Airlines. And it is San Francisco, its requirement for city contractors (including United Airlines, the largest airline in San Francisco) to treat gay relationships on the same level as heterosexual marriages, and the push from San Francisco's gay activists, that resulted in United Airlines becoming the first US airline to extend employee benefits to same-sex partners in 1999. Later in 1999, United was my ride out of the rampant homophobia of Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Melissa Etheridge was the inflight audio.

In early 2013, with United renovating its p.s. service from San Francisco and Los Angeles to New York, and converting the service to a two-class service featuring 28 Continental BusinessFirst lie-flat seats, N596UA was switched to the p.s. fleet, and became the first p.s. aircraft to fly with the new configuration.

Condor Flugdienst Boeing 757-330 D-ABOK is being towed towards the parking area in the southern part of the airport by a Kalmar TBL 190 aircraft tractor.
c/n 29020 (l/n 918) has had its first flight on 25.02.00 with the test registration N1795B and was delivered to Condor on 25.03.00. It was transferred to Thomas Cook Airlines in July 2002. Since 28.05.04 the airline is named Condor again.
This jet was recently equipped with blended winglets.

The Boeing 757 is a mid-size, narrow-body, twin-engine jet airliner manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Passenger versions of the 757 can carry between 186 and 279 passengers, and have a maximum range of 3,100 to 3,900 nautical miles (5,700 to 7,200 km), depending on variant and seating configuration. The Boeing 757 has been produced in two fuselage lengths: the original 757-200 entered service in 1983, and the stretched 757-300 entered service in 1999. A production freighter version, the 757-200PF, has been sold along with a combi model, the 757-200M. Passenger 757-200s have also been converted to the 757-200SF freighter specification.
Launched with orders from Eastern Air Lines and British Airways in 1978, the Boeing 757 was intended to replace the previous narrow-body 727 trijet on short- and medium-routes. The 757 was conceived and designed in tandem with the Boeing 767, a wide-body twinjet with which it shares design features and two-crew flight decks. The operating similarities between the two aircraft allow pilots to obtain a common type rating to operate both jets, after the completion of a transition course. After its introduction, the 757 became commonly used by operators in both the United States and Europe, and particularly with mainline U.S. carriers and European charter airlines. The 757 has also been acquired for use as government, military, and VIP transport.
Production of the 757 ended on October 28, 2004 after 1,050 had been built. The final aircraft was delivered to Shanghai Airlines on November 28, 2005. The -200 is the most common variant, accounting for the majority of all 757s ordered. The -300 is the longest narrow-body twinjet ever produced. As of 2010, Delta Air Lines operates the largest 757 fleet. A total of 945 Boeing 757 aircraft were in airline service in July 2010.
Winglet upgrades
Increased fuel prices have put pressure on airlines to improve the average fuel efficiency of their fleets. American Airlines's 757-200 aircraft each burned US$4,153 of jet fuel to fly from St. Louis to San Francisco in 2004; in 2008, the same quantity of fuel cost US$14,676. One way to improve the efficiency of an airplane is to reduce lift-induced drag by installing winglets. Although production of the aircraft has ceased, blended winglets are available from Aviation Partners Inc. as a retrofit to increase fuel efficiency and range. Aviation Partners claims improvements of 5% on fuel efficiency and 200 nautical miles (370 km) on range. Winglets on the 757 have been approved for the 757-200 series as 757-200WL (757-200WingLets), and for the -300 series. Continental Airlines received the first modified -300 with winglets on February 3, 2009.

Maybe this EP-2 business will pay off... This picture is either the 85mm (170 eq) or the 180mm (360 eq). I'm guessing the later. Key facts are bright sun, 1/800 second exposure and 640 ISO. Probably was't wide open- F4? 5.6? 8? I'll have to do a study... I've made less attractive photos using film in the OM-1.

A blended winglet on a Southwest Boeing 737-700 series adds a little color to an otherwise gloomy day.
The concept and testing of these large wingtip extensions had been around since the mid-1980's but since their certification on the 737 Next Generation platform in 2001, they have become widespread in their use with rising fuel costs. Their purpose is to reduce the amount of induced drag, i.e., the type of drag caused by the lift of the wing itself. Airlines typically save about 3 percent in fuel with these which quickly adds up in a large fleet.
