Back in pre-winglet days.....seen arriving Chicago O'Hare on June 26, 2004. The green field reflects nicely on the polished aluminum.
"S/N" is the aircraft's serial number. "L/N" is a Boeing code denoting what order the airframe came off the production line. "F/N" refers to an individual airline's fleet numbering system. Not all airlines use a fleet number; not all manufacturers use a line number.

BA's Boeing 777-200 G-YMMH lands on runway 24R in Montreal. It is one of the most silent landings of all aircraft I heard come in this day... absolutely amazing.

Main identifying points: The tail cone and tail are probably the 777's best identifyer.. the tail-cone comes to a vertically flat ending with the APU exhaust protruding out of the left side only. Also the 777 has sharply edged tail that's somewhat small in mass but tall for the plane's size. From the front you can see the fuselage is not oval like most airplanes but completely circular. There are no winglets on the 777-200. This plane flies with the largest engines of any airliner. The GE90s engine cone is as large as some airliner's fuselages in fact. Lastly another easy thing to spot that's unique to the 777 is the triple bogey landing gear... three sets of double wheels on each main undercarriage landing gear. Other than Russian aircraft all other long range planes only have double ones.

A fiesta of winglets as 5 KLM 737s are lined up at the D-Pier. They winglets appear to be sharkfins popping out of the blue water that is the aircraft.
KLM's retrojet is in the front of the pack.

Tonight should be good as the same solar feature that caused the week of storming beginning on 9/1 is once again affecting the earth. This scene just east of Tigerton, WI on 9/1/16...with any luck after the next couple of nights I'll have many more like this one!

The winglet casting a shadow right over the cockpit is an interesting effect. N757QM has had a pretty varied career; built for but not taken up by an Egyptian airline, its first operator was Far Eastern Air Transport of Taiwan as B-27005 in November 1994. In November 2002 it went to Aeromexico, using XA-TQU and N703AM. From there the 757 went to FlyLAL Charters/Small Planet Airlines in September 2008, becoming LY-FLA, then to Nordwind Airlines in March 2011 as VQ-BKM. It was converted to a freighter for Asia Pacific Airlines in 2015.

Boeing 737MAX8 winglet as the sun sets behind us and night rises in front of us as I deadheaded home from Vancouver CYVR to Calgary CYYC.
The phenomenon I call night rise is only visible for a few minutes in the Eastern sky as the sun sets in the West. I usually see it while flying away from the sunset.
