TUIfly Boeing 737-8K5(WL) D-ATUM is taxiing towards Terminal 1 in Frankfurt. This is the "Split Scimitar Winglet" Boeing is so proud of.
c/n 37240 (l/n 4786) has had its first flight on 30.01.14 and was delivered to TUIfly on 16.02.14.
The jet is powered by 2x CFMI CFM56-7BE turbofans and has a cabin layout with 189 Economy Class seats.

This aircraft was delivered without winglets to Boullioun Aviation Services as VT-AXA in Feb-05. It was transferred to Wells Fargo Bank Northwest as N119CH the following day and ferried to Singapore. It was leased to Air India Express as VT-AXA in Mar-05.
In Feb-10 the aircraft was returned to the lessor and leased to Turkish Airlines as TC-JHJ in Apr-10. It was operated on behalf of subsidiary company, AnadoluJet. In Sep-13 the lease was transferred to SunExpress Airlines, Turkiye as TC-SBF while the operation for AnadoluJet continued. Standard blended winglets were also fitted in Sep-13.
SunExpress Airlines is jointly owned by Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa. The aircraft was returned to SunExpress in Sep-18 and returned to the lessor in Oct-18. In Dec-18 it was leased to JetTime, Denmark as OY-JZK. It was withdrawn from service and stored at Copenhagen, Denmark in Mar-20 at the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The aircraft was ferried to Lasham, UK in Jun-20 and returned to the lessor as EI-GTP in Jul-20. It remained stored at Lasham until it was re-leased to JetTime as OY-JZK in Jan-22. It was retro-fitted with 'Split Scimitar' winglets in Oct-22. Current, updated 06-Nov-25.

A major step forward in aerodynamic improvements will be the introduction of “Sharklets” beginning with A320ceo (current engine option) Family aircraft, which will add over 100 nautical miles in range, increase payload by more than 500 kg. and improve takeoff performance. These wingtip devices will offer a more than 3.5 per cent overall fuel burn savings on long sectors and are to result in up to two per cent lower engine maintenance costs due to the lower thrust required when Sharklets are installed.
Sharklets took to the sky for the first time in November 2011 with a successful five-hour maiden flight from Toulouse, France using Airbus’ in-house A320 development aircraft.
So it's shortly before 0300 and I'm standing on a beach along Lake Superior...Lady Aurora has been dancing all night long so far, I've lost count of the substorms that happened. On the last one the display dissolved into a massive shimmering area covering the horizon up to around 45 degrees high at times. It would stay that way all the way until the dawn hours later. Continuing my habit of taking some kind of selfie with these things, decided to just give Lady A a nice thumbs-up this time around. :D Two satellites pass through the frame, and the Milky Way angles across above the aurora. Onboard Air New Zealand A320 ZK-OXM (NZ360 Christchurch to Wellington).
12 minutes after taking off and climbing, we reached the required altitude and started the 24 minute descent into Wellington. No level flying at all. The cabin crew were only about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way through dishing out the water when the co-pilot (or pilot) asked the cabin crew to prepare the cabin for landing!
