Could this 9 day old filly be the next Olympic show jumping horse? Who knows - but she sure has a lot of spirit! She was born during the games of the 30th Olympiad and she's got a few more years to go before she'll be ready to start jumping fences, but both her parents are award-winning show jumpers, so the pedigree is there!

I was late getting this taken and am even later getting it posted to the group. I just wasn't feeling well that week, and wasn't up to dragging out the tripod, remote and speedlight and attempting a selfie. So I finally managed to close in on a cat in lamp light.

Jekyll is 16 years old and suffers from arthritis. He is a large cat, and weighs in at 16 pounds. He and 2 littermates were dumped and found by a friend when they were only 3 weeks old. I bottle raised him and his litter mates, so he is my "child." (His litter mates found other homes.) He's a very sweet cat, and I love him dearly. I don't know how much longer I'll have him so I am savoring every day.

I apologize for my lack of participation lately. I have chronic fatigue syndrome, and have been experiencing extra low energy lately. It just doesn't leave me much energy to be creative or spend time on Flickr. And after doing two 365's back-to-back, I think I just need to step back for awhile. I love the 52 Weeks group and will stay as involved as I can. I hope to catch up on the commenting soon. :-)

52 Weeks of 2015 - Week 32 - Theme: Low Key Portrait - Category: Portrait

On the road I often don't carry my camera with me, because it prevents me from taking other stuff with me - like a good heavy book to read on the bus. That's why this time I went all modern and social media-ish and took out my smartphone to get this snapshot =)

For 52 Weeks of 2017 group

Week #32

Theme: Silhouette

Lesson learned with this week's challenge: silhouetting a yellow object against a yellow background is maybe not the best choice.

This curvy golf tee was my dad's, though how often he used it I'm not sure, as in my memory the only golfing he did was very very rarely hitting a bucket of balls at the driving range. I've been carrying this around in my purse since my brother gave it to me, a souvenir of a different time, of a father who's been gone almost 16 years.

Trying to catch the eyes as the main point of the image and tied to get creative by using the reflection in the back of the camera then making it monochrome.

It is always nice to stand at the seaside and smell that lovely fresh air .... lots of "liquid" out there!!

Travelling this week so I have no access to my post-processing tools. This is SOOC using the in-camera HDR function on my Canon 80D.

HDR is the technique of combining several photos of the same scene but shot at different exposures to create an image with a High Dynamic Range.

Catching up with challenges (shot in the week but not posted)

The Museum of Pop Culture. A fusion of textures and myriad colors, MoPOP’s exterior conveys all the energy and fluidity of music. Three-thousand panels, made up of 21 thousand individually cut and shaped stainless steel and painted aluminum shingles, encase the outside of the building. Their individual finishes respond to different light conditions and appear to change when viewed from different angles, reminding audiences that music and culture is constantly evolving.

I would love to capture as many of Gehry's buildings as I can.

For six word story.

For this weeks theme i was sure to keep my eyes on the road as i was speeding through a 50km speed zone! Having fun and taking shots priceless...

Skylar was reluctant to start our hike this evening but it didn't take too long to get into the swing of things. I feel so bad for her in the summer heat. Fall can't come soon enough for this girl.

This is a very small room made to look much bigger with a panorama shot. We just painted it and put in new carpet so it feels brand new. Still getting it decorated--lots of nice walls to fill.

This one isn't a showcase of her eyes. She was so caught up in reading the new books she brought home (thank you aunt Léonie for the loan), she wouldn't put them down a second.

The little buddy sitting on her lap is Curly, a replica of another plush which we lost somewhere outside a few months back. But this one is actually much better looking (in an adult's eye anyway), being brown as opposed to a flashy blue.

Perfect way to end the week. This is the person I love best in all the world. On Reddit as we wait for Star Wars VII. A study in brown...

A strong figure can often be found across the room. His stoic look and awkward grimace usually intimidates instead of invites. You would never know there is so much joy and smiles behind that blank stare. All you had to do was say hello.

Hatch New Mexico is the biggest producer of Chiles in the world. It produces red, green mild, medium and hot! In the fall you can smell the chiles roasting all over Albuquerque. Sprouts have a roaster and will roast a huge batch for anyone who wants them. Hatch is a very tiny place and the Chile Festival every September draws in 30,000 people. I have tried the red Chile Wine and it's very good. It has a little heat to it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatch,_New_Mexico

Anyone who has driven northbound on I-75 (Michigan) has seen this sign. If memory serves me correctly, it is also in someone's music video.

7 Days of Shooting –

Week #32 (w/b 14 February) Love or Loathe - This week kicks off with Valentines Day, so all you love bugs will have no problem with this week’s Theme! Hearts and roses and little kisses might be right for you but you might just loathe all that mushy lovey dovey time so how will you interpret the love thang?!

"7 Days of Shooting" "Week #32" "Love or Loathe" "Black and White Wednesday"

In the photograph from last week (Week 31), I started to think about ideas for the cover of the photo book that I make each year of the children. My dad made a few "apple boxes" for me to use in the studio so, while he was at it, I asked him if he could also make a box big enough for me to put Maisie and Jack in so that I could take a few photographs. Rather than calling the NSPCC, he obliged and this is the result.

It is obviously a composite of several photographs, twelve in all, I think. I took a few yesterday of Jack as a test (Jack-in-the-Box) and then continued today, taking some more of Jack and Maisie.

The lighting was a little more complicated than last week but still not rocket science. Two lights took the background to white. Another two in strip boxes from the rear sides added the highlights to the sides of the subjects (When they weren't in the box!). A main light with beauty dish on from upper camera left and then a large fill light from on camera axis to lift the shadows in the box that were caused by the main light.

I ended up shooting at 80mm at f/16 to give me a little more room for the kids to move around and still be in focus.

This week's theme is "light". I was going to do a light bulb above my head but then my daughter asked if she could help. The CFL bulb appeared to be the "green" thing to do!

Week 32! We’re keeping a good pace through topics, and I’m quite pleased to be keeping up with this project so well, still.

Anyhoo! This week is all about food, because last week I read that science suggests taking a picture of your food before eating it enhances the taste of it. Not conclusively proven, mind, but suggested based on similar research in this area.

The good news is that I am pretty sure the driver was standing on the side of the road filling out forms when I happened across this scene.

Week25-Week32 at Cuc Ao Factory, Ot Cay and Lien

Theme this week: Photography Photography

Great idea to dedicate this week to the World Photography Day. I have enjoyed very much watching the other self portraits - with our cameras, of course - and the pics showing people taking photos around the world.

Answering the questions, I have a Nikon d3100 and I like it very much. I don't have a favourite subject to photograph although I think I would love to photograph things related to books, people reading, etc.

The 52 in 2016 Challenge for Week 32: Long Exposure

Had a chance to get out and enjoy a beautiful sunset this week. Even spent some time with my ND filter - creating a nice smooth lake reflection of the sunset!

And made of chocolate:-).

I had a hard time with this category because of the abstract category. How do you define abstract? Is it enough if the bokeh is abstract, or does the whole picture have to be? I had two pictures I couldn't decide between. Submitted one, then changed my mind and ended up with this one. I think it fits the abstract theme better. My second choice is in the comments.

I've been slapped with a random case of insomnia. For the past 11 days, I've been running on about 30 hours of sleep. Yeah. Bollocks. I finally gave in and took a sleeping pill last night, and it only knocked me out for a good 5 hours...
