Water fountain in the garden at Montacute House near Yeovil, Somerset.

Our new lockdown garden wildlife pond that we finished three weeks ago. We have already had a frog and a toad take up residence, a visit from a male Large Red Damselfly checking it out and lots of Hoverflies and loads of insect larvae not to mention Blackbird and Goldfinch bathing on the pebble beach area.

Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fave my images.

I had encountered and photographed this species in SW Colorado some years back but have never been that happy with those images. We had a nice session on Mount Lemmon this trip with one but this is from a few days later near Elephant Head that I like better. I am pleased that this image showed some of the oft hidden rufous crown and the yellow under tail AND over tail in addition to the yellow on the chest.

It is instructive to contrast this plumage with Lucy's, Co1ima, and the dullest of Nashvil1e warblers.

Water feature in the Kiosk pond at the Christchurch Botanic Garden. It was a shady area filled with autumnal colours even though it is a bright spring day. The Ducks were enjoying their snooze on the sculpture.

"Diminish and Ascend is by Auckland-based David McCracken. The piece is a 13 metre receding perspective staircase made from aluminium, which has been installed in the Kiosk Lake of the Botanic Gardens.

McCracken's expertly crafted sculpture plays with perspectives, taking into account the visual effects associated with simulating distance. By constructing a modified replica of a staircase that decreases in size as it nears its highest and furthest point from eye-level, it gives off the illusion of an infinite stairway to heaven as the aluminum steps ascend into the clouds without an end in sight.

Not sure if this is a Broad-Tailed hummer or maybe a Ruby Throated.

I'm just 3 ft from him, they aren't shy as long as there is food nearby. Shot this with my 100mm macro

Plenty of bright sunshine about today. Best time to get the old Infrared converted camera out and walk down to the local water park in Mt Barker, South Australia.

SEAZ. Elephant Head area. Of all the main target warblers that breed in the SEAZ region I've thus far found this western warbler the most challenging to photograph well using techniques I've honed for warblers over many years. The exception were a couple individuals like this one that came to a water feature. Drawing from my experience with eastern warblers I know some are much easier to photograph than others but also timing for a particular geographic location can play a key role as well. Some species are easier closer to arrival to breeding grounds and others are easier some days or even some weeks later. Perhaps such is the case with this species as I've only encountered it on breeding grounds very end of April through first week of May.

I know, I always thought that they were fire breathing but this copper work sits in the Royal Welsh show ground in Builth Wells. The camera came with us to the Eisteddfod the other day and there wasn’t that much opportunity for any real photography except this quiet little interlude before the choir competition ( they didn’t finish in the top 3 in that but did come 3rd in the Parti deulais the group duet singing) .

Maybe tomorrow I’ll post the full work but we have to be there for 0730 tomorrow and it’s 1hr 20 minutes away, I suspect that I will be a fire breathing dragon having to go for a second time and so early!

Thanks for stopping!
