Chicagoist went out to the Daily Bar and Grill in Lincoln Square for some food, drinks, and yelling at the TV as part of elections returns. Good times.

Taken by Julene's guest, who's name I forget.

Illinois elections were overall disappointing. Somehow, Peter Roskam managed to win the suburbs, which is particularly abhorrent. Todd Stroger for our county board pres is also dissapointing. Green Party candidate for Governor did fairly well, which we were all happy about.

Not all of us are crazy!

Midsummer Watch Parade

The monk, Lucian, told of a Chester procession of clerics in the year 1195 and the annals mention a parade in 1397/8 but it was not until the mayorality of Richard Goodman who served from November 1498 until November 1499 (most modern writings place he Midsummer Watch in the year 1498 which is unproved) that the Wach on Midsummer Eve was first sett out and begonne. At every summer solstice, Cestrians would march through the streets carrying torches and wearing costumes during years when the famous Chester Mystery Plays were not performed.

(A similar practise was performed every midwinter - the Christmas Eve Watch was a candlelit procession which would go from the mayor's house to the Common Hall where the keys to the city gates would be given to the mayor who, in turn, entrusted them to the watchmen who would keep the city safe over the festive season.)

In 1564 the midsummer watch parade included: 4 gyants, 1 unikorne, 1 dromodarye, 1 luce, 1 camell, 1 dragon, 6 hobbyhorses and 16 naked boys.

save it for a rainy day

for love may come

and tap you on the shoulder

some starless night

just in case you feel

you wanna hold her

you'll have a pocket full of starlight

Mac and Bubbie watching Papa plow our driveway Sunday morning before heading to camp to plow there. I was trying to get a shot where each of the boys was in front of one headlight, but since both the plow truck and the boys were in constant motion, that didn't happen.

People usually talk of killing time; while time slowly kills you.

We arrived in Verona this afternoon and drove to the apartment, which is lovely. We then needed to head out to the supermarket for supplies. Before heading back to the apartment, we walked to the edge of the lake and watched the storm rolling in.

Taken while on our 2-year anniversary getaway in Petoskey, Michigan. I look tired but really, I'm very rested!

Pony riders watch a replay of the controversial stretch run of the grade 1, $750,000 Santa Anita Handicap at Santa Anita Park racetrack in Arcadia, California, U.S.A. The stewards ultimately decided that there would be no change to the original order of finish and Game On Dude would remain the winner. (March 5, 2011)

I have been watching excitedly over the last Few weeks Blue Tits building a nest in my Garden. Then working so hard to look after their off spring.

Then.........last night my neighbour bought round a little mass of wet feathers which his awful cat had brought in.

I took it from him and placed it in a beeny hat in a box waiting for the inevitable to happen.....it would never survive!!!

What a surprise this morning......coming down the stairs I could hear really loud cheeping..........lifted the cover off of the box and this little fellow flew out!! Opening the patio doors wide I tried to encourage it out........at this point it flew onto my finger just for a minute then up to the safety of the roof before flying away. Do hope it finds it`s family.

Another from the night out under the full moon, sadly the cloud and some drizzle rolled in.
