This sequence reminded me of the classic Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) line from the 1975 Blockbuster, Jaws, when he first realises the size of the shark that they're up against. He backs into the wheelhouse of the vessel that's been hunting the killer shark and says: "You're gonna need a bigger boat". While whale-watching off the coast of Juneau, Alaska, I saw a whale getting closer and closer to our boat. The whale is around 50ft and our boat was around 40ft (you can see the side in some of the pics). At the last moment, the whale submerged underneath the boat and you felt the boat move. Cool!

A roaring bonfire. This capture i tried to create the magic of the warmth felt by a flame. The people in the picture create the scene as a celebration of an event. This event is the UK known of Fireworks or Guy Falks Night. The flames were really high and the people are not as close as it may seem but do add to this image as you can just about see that they are wearing coats and hats to keep warm in the Autumn turning to Winter night.

I missed the Galveston outing with the rest of the Assignment Houston group on June 24th, so I knew that Saturday the 30th was my last day to photograph Galveston in order to make the deadline.

My husband and cousin decided to do some pier fishing while I tried to get something worthwhile, so we packed up the car and made the drive thinking that if we got there around 6pm I could get some great daytime and sunset shots. As we were coming over the overpass into Galveston I opened the sunroof and stuck the camera out of the car to get shots of Moody Gardens. I pushed the shutter and nothing happened. My battery was still sitting on the charger at home.

CRAP.

I dropped them off at the pier and made the one and a half hour roundtrip home and back. I was not happy to say the least. This left me exactly 52 minutes before sunset to find some magic.

Walking from Venice Beach to Santa Monica, the sidewalk was filled with all sorts of vibrant people walking, jogging, bicycling, and roller blading along. And then there was this couple sitting along the side just watching all the action go by. You get a bit of a sense of this with the volley ball players in the background.
