Some shots you plan, and some take you completely by surprise - this was definitely one of the latter! I'd been videoing bathing birds, and looked up to see this gorgeous Summer Tanager standing on the highest rock - I think displaying for a female, but I never saw her. When he flew from the cedar, just seconds after the whole scene began, I couldn't believe what I'd captured and have been looking forward to sharing it ever since!

This is one of the monarchs that I raised in a protected enclosure from a first instar. I watched it pupate into a beautiful green chrysalis about 11 days ago and this morning I was able to video it as it eclosed. Although its wings appear withered and tiny when it first comes out, within 20 minutes they are fully "inflated" and within 2-4 hours, the butterfly is flight-ready.
You can also see that its proboscis isn't yet "zippered" - in a short time, it will get those two pieces zipped together, allowing it to gather nectar.
This makes 27 monarchs I've raised and released so far this year. In the wild, statistically only 2 would have survived to become butterflies.

Als es neulich sonnig war nutzte ich das Wetter im Garten aus, um dass aufblühen der Krokusse in Zeitraffer festzuhalten.
Zu sehen sind vier Timelapse mit 600 Bildern aufgenommen in jeweils ein bis zwei Stunden.
Zum Schluss kommt noch ein Timelapse der 14 Stunden dauerte und sich ebenfalls aus 600 Bildern zusammensetzt.
When it was sunny the other day, I took advantage of the weather in the garden to capture the crocuses blooming in time-lapse.
You can see four timelapses with 600 pictures taken in one to two hours each.
Finally, there is a timelapse that lasted 14 hours and is also made up of 600 images.

When I switched to Linux, the tracking system on my equatorial mount stopped working (it was also very basic and never worked perfectly). So I decided to recycle the reusable components and build a homemade one. In Argentina, a GoTo system for an EQ3 mount like mine costs around $1000 USD, so making a homemade one was worthwhile. With the help of the AI assistant Copilot and after watching some YouTube tutorials, I acquired an ESP32S microcontroller, two DRV8825 drivers, a 12V input/5V output step-down power supply, some capacitors, a PCB, and some cables for the NEMA17 motors (I reused the motors, among other things, and lengthened the cables since the old ones were too short). And that was it! I spent about $50 USD on this! The difference is amazing! I downloaded the OnStep project (authored by Howard Dutton), which is open source (github.com/hjd1964/OnStep), and compiled a minimal version for now. I assembled everything in a small box that used to be a car first-aid kit, haha! Controlled from KStars with INDI/Ekos for Linux, it turned out to be very functional and complete. Although I still need to test it at night with Plate Solving for GoTo, today I was able to do a very basic test, pointing it at the Sun, as you can see in the video.
My Maksutov-Cassegrain f/15 telescope and Player One Neptune-M camera are mounted there, which provides significant magnification, and although I did an indoor test with a basic polar alignment, my OnStep system worked wonderfully! I am very pleased with the work done and I encourage those who need a GoTo system to make one themselves, because although it involves some work, the cost is significantly less than buying one or having one made, and the learning experience is invaluable.

I cannot understand why the Supreme Court voted against protective gun laws? How many more children and innocent people have to be killed before we actually take a peaceful stand. The USA has more deaths from gunshots than any other country in the world! Can we not learn our lesson. Now we have to watch more bloodshed in the name of???

We were surprised to look out to see these sweet ladies in our yard. One of them was very interested in our compost!
I feel terrible for wildlife lately because the air quality is horrendous due to the Canadian wildfires. For several days it’s been in the “unhealthy” and “very unhealthy” range, with a constant haze in the air. While we have the option of closing windows & filtering our air, they do not.
We can be heroes just for one night.
