Well, I somehow managed to reach the final platform just below the summit plateau. For me—and many others—this is the end of the line. Those who are fitter continue further up; as you can see in the photos and video, the remaining ascent is even more strenuous, and the line of visitors is massive. Here on the plateau lie the remains of the Lion Gate, from which the rock formation presumably takes its name. Of the colossal lion's head—through whose mouth one once began the final, steepest stretch of the climb to the palace buildings (of which only the foundations remain today)—only two massive paws are left.

You can see more in the video and photos.

Video footage shot from the front seat of a helicopter flying up the Franz Josef Glacier on a beautiful sunny afternoon in November, 2016.

Franz Josef Glacier / Kā Roimata o Hine Hukatere is a 12 km (7.5 mi) long temperate maritime glacier located in Westland Tai Poutini National Park on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. Together with the Fox Glacier 20 km (12 mi) to the south, and a third glacier, it descends from the Southern Alps to less than 300 metres (980 ft) above sea level.

We’ve been stopping at this spot on the marsh walk in the local state park lately to watch the baby ducks. I especially love it when they suddenly have a burst of speed across the water and the background song of the marsh wren is quite nice!

I've been lucky enough to watch these Tree Sparrow chicks getting fed on the lawn every day. They seem to be a very rare sight these days, unlike the House Sparrows!

The Apostlebird (Struthidea cinerea) is a medium-sized dark grey bird with a short strong bill, brown wings and black tail. It is normally seen in groups of six to ten birds, and is usually seen on the ground. As you will see in this short video, they're quite fearless of humans, I also know them to be intelligent birds with good problem solving skills.

Honey bee swarm showing waggle dance. This swarm was arranged on a pear tree at Copped Hall in the walled garden and had been forming for 3 days. Just after I had taken pictures our bee keeper arrived to knock them into a box for transportation to one of our hives - we already have 2 active.

Sorry it's a bit shaky but I didn't have a tripod with me and had to hand-hold.
