In Rouen, the Joan of Arc celebrations take place on the Sunday closest to May 30. Its architect, Louis Arretche, wanted to reconnect with the tradition of many old Norman churches by giving the building the shape of an upturned boat: to do this, he rediscovered the principles of traditional shipbuilding and the wooden structure remains visible above the nave. The exterior, resolutely modern, evokes the sea with a covering of slate or copper scales.

The vast majority of images I do these days are macros, so just taking this photo felt strange in itself. For me, these tweezers are invaluable when I'm picking up and arranging tiny objects like the stiletto shoes in this image. The shoes are as light as a feather and only ½" long. I frequently knock them over! I find these cheap plastic tweezers are much easier to use, and far more accurate, than metal ones and I wouldn't be without them now. The background is a modern dolls house carpet.

For this week's Crazy Tuesday group theme, Hand tools.

Amidst the vast, rolling plains of the Midwest, a weathered and forgotten farmhouse stands as a relic of a bygone era. Its desolation is a haunting testament to the passage of time, where the once vibrant colors of its paint have now succumbed to the relentless assault of nature. The cracked and peeling facade, reminiscent of a psychedelic mural gone awry, tells tales of forgotten dreams and lost aspirations.

The structure, leaning precariously as if weary from bearing witness to years of changing seasons and unforgiving weather, casts eerie shadows that dance in the fading light of dusk. The porch, once a welcoming threshold, now hangs onto its last vestiges of existence, a skeletal reminder of the life that once thrived within these weathered walls.

A sense of abandonment pervades the air, as if the spirits of the past occupants linger, whispering echoes of laughter and the toil of hard work. The overgrown vegetation, reclaiming the land it once yielded to human hands, adds to the surreal aura of neglect and isolation.

In this frozen moment captured by the lens, one can almost hear the distant echoes of Hunter S. Thompson's voice, a raspy whisper on the winds of time, speaking of forgotten dreams, lost hope, and the relentless march of progress that left this once bustling abode to fade into the annals of history.

The creation of High Dynamic Range (HDR) images of the solar corona is a fascinating challenge, driven by the need to capture the vast dynamic range of brightness that defines these celestial phenomena. This endeavor marries the artistic with the scientific, uncovering details and structures of the corona that a single exposure could never reveal.

This particular HDR image of the solar corona was meticulously crafted from a series of exposures captured during the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. My setup for totality included a Canon Ra camera, a Canon EF200mm f/2.8L II USM Lens paired with a Canon 2x III Extender for an effective focal length of 400mm, set at F/8, ISO 200. The camera was mounted on an iOptron SkyTracker, and I utilized a laptop with the SET'n'C (Solar Eclipse Timer and Controller) for precise camera control. The range of exposure times spanned from 1/1000 to 4 seconds, encompassing 1/1000, 1/500, 1/250, 1/125, 1/60, 1/30, 1/15, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, and 4 seconds.

During the eclipse, I successfully captured four complete series of photos at these shutter speeds, all in CR3 format. I then processed these files in a Raw editor, adjusting texture, clarity, and denoise settings before saving them as 16-bit TIFF files.

In Photoshop, I centered the photo by loading the images into layers (File > Scripts > Load Files into Stack...) and utilized the “difference” blending mode for layers, manually centering each image using the arrow keys. An average shift calculation from image to image helped address the challenge of centering overexposed images, which could not be simply aligned based on the moon alone.

To create a mean image, I converted the selected layers into a Smart Object and applied the Mean stack mode (Layer > Smart Objects > Stack Mode > Mean), then flattened the image and saved it as mean.tif. For the moon to be at the center of the image, I cropped it accordingly.

I applied a Radial Blur in Photoshop (Filter > Blur > Radial Blur) with the settings: Spin as the Blur Method, Best for Quality, and an Amount of 10, ensuring the moon was centered in the image. This blurred image was saved as blur.tif.

To subtract the blurred image from the original, I used the Apply Image command (Image > Apply Image), setting the source to blur.tif, with the blending mode set to Subtract and an offset of 128. I then compressed the dynamic range using the Levels tool (Image > Adjustments > Levels) and saved the file as subtract.tif.

To multiply the mean image with the subtracted image, I once again used the Apply Image command, setting the blending mode to Multiply. The final image was saved as done.tif.

Final touches were made using Topaz Denoise, the Raw Filter editor, and other Photoshop tools to enhance the image.

The final HDR composition is not merely a visual feast but a technical triumph that reveals the complexity and elegance of the sun's atmosphere. These images are invaluable, providing insights into solar physics and the forces that shape the corona. They also offer a breathtaking visual experience that conveys the awe-inspiring beauty of solar eclipses to a global audience. Through this HDR image, the profound beauty of a transient celestial moment is captured, enriching our appreciation and understanding of the cosmos's wonders and presenting the solar corona in a captivating new light.

Looking down over Skeiðarársandur, a vast plain of black sand and ash comes into view. As the well-defined river braids near the sandy beaches along the coast of Southern Iceland, their form becomes less defined. At the mercy of the strong winds and flat beaches, the braids get washed out.

Like a vast lump of clay on a potters wheel, the Peña de Arties (1642m) marks a dramatic form for the otherwise open and sun filled Cinqueta valley high in the Spanish Aragon region. Seen from some angles, the mountain is like a giant's grave, and it is perhaps not surprising to find that witches are reputed to have lived watching over its northern wall from the village of Sin, and that multiple bronze age cromlechs rose high above its indubitable presence (witches as varied pagan expressions and not necessarily close to any modern caricature or medieval stigma).

Like a 'roche moutonnée that decided to be a small mountain', the land aside is perfectly pastoral and open to sun - an invitation to strong minded peoples. Just after the Peña de Arties are the well known open villages of Plan and Gistain.

The view is from the dirt track that rises and dog-legs behind the village of Saravillo.

The Medieval Bishop's Palace in Lincoln was constructed in the late 12th century, it was at the centre of the vast Diocese of Lincoln, which stretched from the Humber to the Thames.

The palace was extended and partially rebuilt over the next few centuries and became one of the most impressive buildings of medieval England, reflecting the power and wealth of Lincoln's bishops.

It is situated on a hillside site, just below Lincoln Cathedral, providing extensive views over the city. The palace was damaged during the Civil War and subsequently largely abandoned. The building now sits in a ruinous state and is under the care of English Heritage.

I was looking out over a vast wildlife refuge and wondering when they were going to begin allowing the ponds to fill with water? Seems like it takes them a bit longer every year. Then out of the corner of my eye I notice some movement. Yep, it was this little guy. He walked up on me and suddenly noticed me at the same time I noticed him.

I almost laughed because he tried to act nonchalant as if he had actually intended to meet me here at this exact time. He walked back and forth in front of me kicking the water and suddenly he began taking a bath. This was halarious, because it went on and on for at least 30 minutes. Even other birds started showing up and joining in. A Killdeer that I really wanted to take photos of, but I didn't want to do anything to interrupt this guy's performance.

He looked at me with those puppy dog eyes and it was as if we were already friends because he had no intention of stopping this little charade. Animals are so cool, I thank God for his absolute love for us that he has create this cornucopia of birds and animals just to amuse us. THANK YOU JESUS! ❤️❤️❤️

----------------------------- JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST - ALONE!

12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)

16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)

1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)

7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:1-13)

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!

So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️
