Many Chicago residents still don't know about the hidden gem that is the contemporary art gallery known as Wrightwood 659. It is sandwiched between Clark and Ashland on the border of Lincoln Park and Lakeview on an unassuming shady street but it has had some excellent exhibitions over the years!

Reimagine: Himalayan Art Now! is an exhibit that spans through February 15th, 2025. You can see more on their website:

This piece is by Asha Kama Wangdi and here's a link for the artist specifically:

There's also a video piece in the second floor space of the art gallery John Akomfrah entitled Four Nocturnes that is almost an hour long with thrilling scenes of high detailed nature shots so you might want to reserve about 3 hours if you go visit.

Waking up early.

Zabriskie Point, Death Valley, California. The vast ever changing valley is amazing. This point is famous for it's sunsets. the man standing will put this in perspective.. it is vast!

Hope you all have a great mid week!

Thank you for your support and visit!

A vast vacant lot facing the Sumidagawa river and Tokyo Bay used to be the Tsukiji fish market.

This photo was taken from Kachidoki Bridge over the Sumida-gawa, part of which is seen in the extreme right of the photo.

Namiyoke Jinja is in the right near the centre. Just behind the Shintou shrine is Tsukiji Outside Market, and further behind is Ginza where the land price is the most expensive in Japan. Total area of the former Tsukiji public market is 23 ha, which is not small in the tightly built-up Tokyo.

Although five years have passed since the departure of the public market, Tokyo prefecture has not yet disclosed its redevelopment plan. It is apparent that the plan is in turmoil probably over the future of Outside Market.

Greenery in the left is the Hama-rikyuu (浜離宮) Japanese garden (flic.kr/p/245VtJE).

The area with new high-rise buildings behind the garden is called Sio-site which is a redevelopment of the former Shiodome Freight Station of Japan Rail.

Tsukiji may be redeveloped like that.

Taken during a visit to my favourite bookstore in Johannesburg, while waiting to pay for a purchase. This vast emporium has shelves packed with books, the extent of which is vastly magnified by reflective material atop the walls and in the ceiling!. Many thanks to the management and staff of Exclusive Books in Hyde Park for permitting me to take this photograph.

This is a simple vast beach without any special features except for the occasional piece of drift wood and magical sunrises.

Standing where the cliffs have yet to rise, the fortress of Pointeroc serves as the vigilant eye of Grancastell, watching the vast, menacing horizon for the first sign of an enemy sail.

Spanning two province, Songkhla Lake is the largest natural lake in Thailand and covers an area of over 1,000km squared. Although it’s called a lake, it is mostly tidal, the water brackish, and it’s geologically a lagoon.

The vast distances between remote communities in Canada's north and Alaska can take hours by car. The airplane, float plane, and ski plane are the quickest ways to get supplies and travel to appointments in larger places. These great distances make the airplane the lifeline for remote communities. These two are private, and the landing strip is just slightly up the hill where the windsock is. The village of Muncho Lake also has a floatplane base on the lake.

The Moutoa Sluice Gates and floodway, completed in 1962, are recognised as one of New Zealand’s outstanding engineering projects of the 20th century. They still serve as a lynchpin of the vast and growing network of drains, stopbanks and floodgates that comprise the Lower Manawatu Scheme and protect the farms, orchards, market gardens and homes between the ranges and the sea.

In their first 40 years to 2002 the sluice gates were opened almost 50 times. Since then they have been opened on average every 15 months with the biggest test being the disastrous floods of 2004. In fact, 2004 was a particularly notable year for floods in the Manawatu River with the gate required to be opened six times.

At the end of the winding road,

Where the horizon kisses the sky,

Lies a view so vast, so broad,

A sight to make the heart sigh.

Only two main gates allow entry into the vast 38 hectares (94 acres) of the Red Fort in Agra. Inside there are representative palace buildings from the time of Shah Jahan as well as mosques and gardens. The Red Fort was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1983.

This is the view from Auchindoun Castle. It is a lovely area so unspoiled. I could hear the sheep and the cows in the distance. As you can see a little snow on the tops but not a lot.

A picture from a couple of summers ago of some vast open space near The Hundred, Herefordshire, England.

The two people on the right give a sense of scale to the vast landscape here.

Cradle Mountain reflecting in Dove Lake as night sets in. This image is slightly earlier in the night than some of my other shots - some cloud still in the sky that later cleared revealing a perfectly clear starscape.

Cattails sway about madly as extreme winds blow in behind a late autumn cold front. I love experiencing rapid weather changes brought on by storms. There's a feeling of disarray, both in the landscape and sky, as air masses collide. Vast amounts of energy are released in the process, an abundant source of creative motivation just waiting to be tapped.

Out in this open meadow, the gusty wind was whipping everything around me into a continuous blur. Very difficult to focus the eye on any one thing when everything is in motion. Photography truly becomes more of a shoot by feel process rather than one of looking through viewfinder. As is often the case, I'm responding more to how the scene makes me feel rather than how it actually looks.

The cattails delineate an impassable boundary for me. Stems from an irrational fear of snakes. Even as a child, I equated cattails with marshes and wetlands and a high probability of harboring snakes. Even with snakes in hibernation in this freezing cold air, the tangle of overgrowth and the certainty of sinking into mud in the still soft earth was more than enough to deter me. Still I lingered on the verge; the scene almost comically bleak, the sky a dark shade or murder gray.

From the "GRAINSCAPES" series.

In the battle-grounds of life only strong will survive. After a fight, a male Blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra) was sending the defeated rival with a hard chase in style. In the peak of actions they were frozen in their natural habitat. Interestingly, the vast natural grassland was the battle ground for the males and they were huge in numbers, trying their strengths to establish the dominance hierarchy. Pics was taken from Tal Chhapar Sanctuary in Rajasthan, India.

The vast monument that has stood since 1979 on the Place du Vieux Marché where she was burned responds to a double recognition: it is both a church to honor Saint Joan of Arc and a civil memorial to commemorate the heroine celebrated by France on the second Sunday of May. In Rouen, the Joan of Arc celebrations take place on the Sunday closest to May 30. Its architect, Louis Arretche, wanted to reconnect with the tradition of many old Norman churches by giving the building the shape of an upturned boat: to do this, he rediscovered the principles of traditional shipbuilding and the wooden structure remains visible above the nave. The exterior, resolutely modern, evokes the sea with a covering of slate or copper scales.
