From an engineering perspective, the Xantia's biggest advance was the suspension. From launch, the more expensive models were available with an enhanced version of the XM's Hydractive, Hydractive II or H2, computer-controlled version of the hydropneumatic self-leveling suspension. This used extra suspension spheres to allow a soft ride in normal conditions, but taut body control during hard braking, acceleration or cornering. These models feature an innovation first seen on the ZX and then subsequently fitted to the facelifted XM - a programmed self-steer rear axle. On sweeping curves and tight bends alike, the rear wheels turn in line with the front wheels.
In 1994, the Activa technology was introduced, which is an extension to the Hydractive II suspension, where two additional spheres and two hydraulic cylinders are used together with computer control to eliminate body roll completely. This technology is more broadly known as active suspension, and the Xantia Activa has exceptional road holding comparable to true sports cars. It employs active anti-roll bars.
In the Swedish magazine Teknikens Värld's moose test the 1999 model of Xantia V6 Activa still holds the record speed through the manoeuvre - faster than the Porsche 996 GT2.
UK Models of the Activa came fitted with a XU10 2 litre turbocharged engine also fitted to the Citroën XM 2.0CT and Peugeot 605 SRi. It produced 150 bhp and 171 lb ft of torque and was a 'low-blow' type for smooth power delivery rather than outright bhp.
The Xantia was the last Citroën to use a common hydraulic circuit for suspension, brakes and steering like the pioneering Citroën DS. It was also the last Citroën car that used the green LHM hydraulic fluid. Later cars, such as the C5, used LDS instead.

Owing to engineering work at Reading over the Easter period, West Country H.S.T. services have been diverted to London Waterloo, with Reading based 'Turbo' units providing a shuttle service between Reading and Westbury. Unable to access Reading depot, this has required a handful of them to visit St Philip's Marsh depot in Bristol for servicing. Class 166 number 166204 is seen here passing Drynham Lane, south of Trowbridge, with a 5K91 12:58 St Philip's Marsh to Reading (via Westbury) empty stock move. 06/04/15.

Sadly new Realtoy castings don't come along too often these days especially here in the U.K. where the only main retailer who continues to sell them is Tesco. One of their newer models is this Porsche 911 Turbo which is finished in this very original and modern matte black colour. Considering this is still a budget diecast and that most Realtoy models have undergone a bit of cost cutting in recent years theirs is still plenty of nice detailing especially at the rear with its slimline tail lights and badges. Mint and boxed.

The sun was reflecting off the V12 Vantage onto the Turbo, giving it kind of a "professional lighting" look.

In years past Aldi used to sell some very nice Welly multi-sets at sporadic times of the year but have predictably moved over to the dark side with generic HTI stuff yet I can't ever remember buying diecasts from Lidl before which makes the recent appearance of new batch five vehicle sets a bit of an unexpected surprise. Admittedly there is nothing not already seen at ASDA before but at just 5.99 each or two for 10 Pounds I couldn't resist getting a few more of the one which contains nothing but good old licensed models. If this new red Porsche 911 Turbo had appeared at Poundland or ASDA as a single then no doubt I would have bought a few so that is my flimsy justification for buying more of these sets and with nothing dating past Batch G at the moment its my only way of satisfying my MBX cravings ;-)
This of course isn't a new casting but it still looks remarkably fresh and helps remind us cynical old collectors that there is still something worth saving at Matchbox and when done properly their products equal that of other similar priced products which have taken the lead over the last few years *cough cough* Majorette *cough cough* Welly. Beautifully cast and well detailed. Mint and boxed.
