lemon and tumeric pasta filled with goats cheese, chili and spinach

day 1 it tasted awful, but by the 3rd day it was delicious. full of yellow and brown mustard seed (way more yellow than brown), apple cider, apple cider vinegar, a little brown sugar, a little salt and some grated fresh tumeric.

Your basic curry ingredients.

Any veg can be made into a super curry with these and a teaspoon of mustard seeds.

I was listening to Ray Charles and using the brush as a conducting stick to create this piece.

   

Chicken satay with peanut sauce made with red chiles, ginger and tumeric. This is served with a cucumber and red onion salad.

 

Part of the Summer Sizzle Menu at Daiquiri Dick's in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Meat are sliced to small pieces, boiled with sereh leaves and orange tree leaves. Add tumeric, pepper, and the all important Kluwek, and then cook for 25 minutes.

Another skin-whitening cream ad found in Femina. This one takes the approach of "glowing radiance." Rather than using the word "whitening" and all the connotations that go along with it, this ad tries to tap into women's desire to "glow." Many Indian women may not want to be white or fair, but most all women like the sound of "glowing skin." One of my informants told me that these products use tumeric to dye facial hairs gold to make the skin appear lighter.

Tasty Bite brand of Indian madras lentils, vegetable tikka masala, and tumeric rice, with a lot of added chili powder and curry on my part. Perfect camping food! Oh, and wine. From Costco.

 

The restored stove worked will for two days, and then on the morning we were leaving - it pooped out and wouldn't work. So, no coffee or oatmeal that morning. We survived.

Recipe has potato, cauliflower, garam masala, ginger/garlic paste, tumeric, chili powder, corriander, curry and salt

Seekh Kebab: Chunks of beef fillet marinated in a blend of ground coriander, garlic and freshly ground black pepper.

Kebab Murgh: Tender fillet of chicken marinated overnight in yogurt, turmeric, garlic and a touch of cayenne pepper.

600g spinach: steam (with water clinging to leaves), cool and chop.

 

500g lamb: dice and brown. Set aside and deglaze the pan with a splash of water. Set that aside as well.

 

1 onion: slice and fry until light brown. Then add:

 

2cm ginger & 5 cloves garlic (crushed), 1-2 chillies (finely chopped), 1tsp each cumin and coriander powder. Fry 2 min.

 

Add 3-4 skinned, chopped tomatoes and a few pinches tumeric. Fry gently, stirring, until the oil or ghee separates and rises to the surface.

 

Stir in the meat and continue frying a few minutes, then add the stock from the pan and water to just cover. Cook gently for ca. 45 minutes (reduce liquid if necessary), then add spinach for a final ten minutes.

Plain cooking. The rice was mixed with shittake mushrooms sauteed with onion and a little fennel seed, and bound up with an egg. Then I baked it an hour in a paprika/tomato soup.

Kari Kapitan is a popular Nyonya dish and is served in most Peranakan restaurants. It is a dry chicken curry. The lemongrass, yellow and red colour and sweet and sourish taste that makes this a distinctive Nyonya dish.

Vegetable Curry:

 

In a pot add 1 clove of garlic and add, 1/4 tsp tumeric, 1/2 tsp cumin, 1 tsp corriander, 1/2 tsp ginger, 1/2 tsp garam masala, 1 1/2 cups chopped or canned tomato, and, 1 chopped green pepper and 1 hot pepper, minced. Heat on medium heat for about five minutes, sitrring occaisionally so it doesn't burn. Throw in about 2 cups of chopped black kale (or another dark leafy green), 1 chopped summer squash (whatever you may have, like zucchini) and 1 cup of chopped broccoli. Heat until the vegetable are tender. Garnish with fresh cilantro. Add salt to taste.

 

Cumin Rice:

 

In a pan toast 2 tsp of cumin seds until fragrant (about 30 seconds) add 1 1/2 cups of brown rice and 3 cups of water. Cook for about 40 minutes until the rice is cooked through.

 

Curried lentils:

 

In a pot add 1 cups rinses brown lentils, 1/4 tsp tumeric, 3/4 tsp cumin, 1 tsp corrianfer, 1/2 tsp garam masala, 1/2 tsp ginger, 3/4 cup fresh or canned tomato, 1/2 tsp cayenne, 3 cups of vegetable stock or water. Bring the water to a boil, then simmer for 40 minutes, or until the lentils are tender. Add salt to taste and serve.
