Here is another scarf from my spring line. The fabric is a sumptuous cotton voile; super lightweight, and yet with a high thread count, so it's incredibly soft. I love the combination of this tumeric gold with the grey. The fabric print is by Anna Maria Horner (her Little Folks Voile collection).

Cultivating turmeric directly from Indonesian soil to be used to make 'loloh' (traditional Balinese medicine). This was done right before we crossed the river to visit the local Balian (traditional Balinese healer). Together, these two events helped us students better understand the potential impact and spirituality of food so that we could contextualize and internalize the true meaning of "food as medicine". This took exploring the jungles and rice fields of Indonesia, seeing food so un-removed from the soil and learning from those living on opposite ends of the world; using the world as my classroom to add new value to every dietary decision that I make.

"Peanut" dressing was made using soynut butter, due to Joe's nut allergies, but I'm sure it would taste even better with real nut butter. I used about 1/2 cup soynutbutter, mixed with brown rice vinegar, lime juice, wheat-free tamari sauce, sesame oil, cumin, chili powder, garam marsala, tumeric, pepper and a little rice milk to thin it out.

The tofu is the Nature's Soy brand (sold at Martin's), cut into small cubes, and tossed around in a pan for a few minutes with some canola oil and the same spices that are in the sauce.

Topped it off with some diced red peppers and scallions. Voila!

Looks a bit like a cross between a carrot and ginger root - the smell is amazing and it tastes similar to ginger but less pungent. Would add some great flavours to fish. It does stain your hands a bit though!

Ginger family is a large family with 46 to 52 genera and more than a thousand species. Plants in this family are found in the tropics of Africa, Asia and the Americas.

An important distinguishing characteristic is the presence of essential oils in their tissues. Leaves usually do not have an odor, in contrast to other parts of the plant (the roots and fruits) which may be aromatic. The fruit is a capsule or a berry. In this family there are important ornamental species and species used for their fragrant oils in perfume and others used as spices in cooking (tumeric, ginger, cardamon).
