This small whale can be up to 5 metres (16 ft) long, larger than all but the largest dolphins but smaller than most other toothed whales. Males are generally larger than the female - males can weigh 1,360 kg (3,000 pounds) and females about 900 kg (one ton).
The beluga moves in Arctic and sub-Arctic waters ranging from 50° N to 80° N. There is also an isolated population which travels in the St. Lawrence River estuary and the Saguenay fjord, around the village of Tadoussac, Quebec. There is also an endangered population that lives in the Cook Inlet, Alaska. In the spring beluga move to their summer grounds, bays, estuaries and other shallow inlets. These summer sites are detached from one another and a mother will usually return to the same site year after year. As their summer homes become clogged with ice during autumn, beluga move away for winter. Most travel in the direction of the advancing ice-pack and stay close to the edge of it for the winter months.

The Newtown Monuments consist of a large medieval cathedral, two monasteries and small church which date from 1206.
The descriptions that I have seen are a bit confusing in that most of them are different to a lesser or greater degree.
My current understanding is that the main building is the Church of St Peter and St Paul (sometimes called a cathedral). The smaller church in the east of the monastery is the parish church of Newtown Clonbun. This is the burial site of Lucas Dillon (c. 1530 – 1592), Attorney General for Ireland and Chief Baron of the Irish Exchequer, and his first wife Jane Bathe. There is also a ’Tower House’ and a ‘Refectory’
The medieval cathedral [Cathedral and Priory Of Saints Peter and Paul] is situated in Newtown Cemetery. It was founded close to the temporal power of Trim Castle by the Norman Bishop Simon de Rochfort in c.1206 after his cathedral at Clonard was burned down. Only part of the original nave and chancel of this largest Gothic Church in Ireland survive. Part of the ruined Priory of Augustinian Canons, which were established to maintain the Cathedral, also survive.
Buried under the high alter of the cathedral are the remains of the founder Simon de Rochford (died 1224) and one of his successors, Bishop William Sherwood, who died in 1428.
The figure of the bishop now affixed to the wall of the cathedral was long trodden underfoot and was badly worn in places. The figure is commonly known as ‘king john's daughter' but is probably the figure of Simon de Rochford the founder of the cathedral.
In the parish church in Newtown-Clonbun stands the remains of the tomb of Sir Lucas Dillon and his wife Lade Jane Bathe, daughter of James Bathe of Athcarne and Drunmconrath. The recumbent figures of Sir Lucas in Renaissance armour and his wife in Elizabethian gown surmount the tomb. This tomb is known locally as the tomb of the jealous man and woman because the two figures do not touch each other at all. And also the sword of state separates the figures.

One of Munich’s top venues! At the foot of the Chinese Tower (Chinesischer Turm), a decorative pagoda in the famous English garden (Englischer Garten), this 7,000-seat Biergarten is very popular with tourists. The Chinesischer Turm biergarten also serves Maibock in May. Traditional Bavarian folk music on Wednesdays, Fridays and at the weekend until nightfall. Source: travelguide.michelin.com
Schönbrunn Palace (German: Schloss Schönbrunn) in Vienna is one of the most important cultural monuments in Austria and since the 1860s has also been one of the major tourist attractions in Vienna. The palace and gardens illustrate the tastes, interests, and aspirations of successive Habsburg monarchs.

A stylish and quite contemporary feel to this 1934 MacBrayne's brochure - a striking coastal view, with a MacBrayne's steamer and bus - very 'poster' in style. The artist is given as "TG" and this may well be Tom Gilfillan who did much work for the company in the 1930s.

The railways were prolific publishers of guides to the areas they served and for the LMSR the English Lakes, or the Lake District, was one of the jewels in their crown. This c1925 guidebook, somewhat in the format of their pre-grouping predecessor the London & North Western Railway, has a suitably idyllic riparian scene by F Whatley.

St. Pauls Cathedral in Macau was built between 1582 to 1602 by the Jesuits, the cathedral was the largest Catholic church in Asia at the time, and the royalty of Europe vied with each other to bestow upon the cathedral the best gifts. With the decline in importance of Macau, which was overtaken as the main port for the Pearl River Delta by Hong Kong, the cathedral's fortunes similarly ebbed, and it was destroyed by a fire during a typhoon in 1835. The Fortaleza do Monte overlooks the ruin.
The Ruins of St. Paul's (大三巴牌坊) refer to the façade of what was originally the Cathedral of St. Paul, a 17th century Portuguese cathedral in Macau dedicated to Saint Paul the Apostle. Today, the ruins are one of Macau's most famous landmarks. In 2005, the Ruins of St. Paul were officially enlisted as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Historic Centre of Macau.
