The ribbon that was on one of the Christmas cakes my sister made for us.
lenswrangler helped a bit, by telling us that back light might be the way to go.
Not so easy to do in our apartment, until I thought of sticking the ribbon to the patio door with some Blue-Tac.
Once I'd got a photo, I couldn't measure exactly how big it was, so have cropped to a ratio of 1:1 for the group rules.
Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites.
Macro Mondays theme: Translucent
The subject is a Himalayan salt candle holder. Any supposed properties involving negative ions have been thoroughly debunked, but it looks cool. (Remind me to get a fresh tealight next time I go down to the kitchen. This photographed flame is a match stick stuck into the old wax.)

My lovely frosted translucent glass cake plate. It's circular and flat, with a leaf-vein pattern molded onto the underside, and four tiny glass feet. I've had it since 1970 and it has enjoyed many sweet uses. Pavlovas, Chocolate cakes, Birthday cakes, Christmas cakes, muffins, cup cakes and more. It doesn't come out often however, when it does, it's quite the star of the show.

The monarch butterfly is one of the most recognizable and well studied butterflies on the planet. Famous for their seasonal migration, millions of monarchs migrate from the United States and Canada south to California and Mexico for the winter. The monarch butterfly exhibits the most highly evolved migration pattern of any known species of butterfly or moth and perhaps any known insect. Monarch's are considered the “king” of the butterflies, hence the name “monarch”.
When I went on the search for something translucent for this week's theme this wee stapler quickly caught my eye. I think the design is good, I can hold it up to the light to check if staples are loaded. I used my usual A4 silvered cards, windowlight and a mobile phone torch with the macro lens.

An impossible creature seems to have been born from the union of crystal, gold, and starlight. Its delicate and majestic body rises like a living sculpture, while its translucent wings capture the glow of a silent universe. Among mineral mountains and cosmic reflections, this dragon appears to guard a realm where fantasy and eternity meet.
I'm completely stumped about this little guy's identification. I took the photo because I liked the way he was backlit, but when I wanted to get a good look at him, he was gone in a flash. If anyone knows, please contact me.
Translucent in the bright morning sun. Memories of autumn (this was taken exactly a month ago - hard to believe how fast time passes).

I didn't intend to be gone this long...It has been busy here in Texas but all is well.
The translucent life is very much about
overflowing with a gift to the world,
rather than being here to consume
or to get something for yourself.
