When I was a child, I was told by my beloved grandparents that the winged seed pods of English maple trees were translucent faerie wings waiting to be collected by their new owners.
Autumn is now well and truly with us here in Melbourne, and the cooler winds of seasonal change are blowing away the remnants of summer, like it tosses the red, gold and orange leaves that carpet the ground.
Today was a perfect autumnal day in Melbourne: sunny, but not too bright, warm, but not hot, and perfectly still. Therefore I thought I'd go for a walk and take advantage of the sunny conditions and take some photographs.
I have taken several hundred, some of which I will upload over the coming months. However this one of the winged maple seeds which reminded me of by childhood in England particularly resonated with me, so I thought I would upload it without delay.
(Wikipedia)
A spring impression from the Bad Nenndorfer Süntelbuchenallee: Süntel beech impresses with their twisted, crippled, intertwined branches and their very short, rotating stems. They grow more in width than in height. They rarely reach a height of more than 15 meters. With their hanging branches, the beech trees form tent-like, hemispherical or mushroom-shaped crowns. The growth form is hereditary, but its origin is still unclear. (wikipedia)

Waited patiently for this roosting male Chalkhill Blue, to wake, rotate to face the warmth of the rising sun....He awoke, started to rotate, but stopped with the sun backlighting, and warming from below....he remained in that position for about ten seconds, then took to the air.
You can clearly see the underwing pattern, and the blue and charcoal pattern of the upper......Totally translucent...!! Totally unusual....

Our picture of many things is been defined by our focus when we are approaching to it. This is an invitation to expand this awareness. Usually we concentrate on the reflected light, when we look at a flower. When we focus on the not reflected light but instead on the light streaming through the blossom, we are entering a new world. Suddenly different details are coming to the foreground. The effects of such a change of the point of view are much more dramatic, when we leave the field of optics. An unresolvable Problem becomes solvable when we treat it as a challenge and our understanding of qualities and behaviours of others is rising when we first try to recognize the good purpose this person had in mind before we admit to deliver a verdict. These are only two examples of an uncountable amount of opportunities we are gaining but nothing is happening by itself. We need to want it and we need to do it.
This flower appears to hang upside-down but that is its natural position. Backlight from the sun makes it translucent.

The new springtail season has started. Dicyrtoma fusca can be found in the garden again. A worm also appears left down.
