Macro Mondays - theme: "Translucent"
This lone tulip revealed itself to me on a short photo walk in a small park. I was photographing something else and almost stepped on it, but fortunately I saw it in time.
The sun was very low in the sky and the little flower was bathing in the evening light.
I was very happy to have stopped and taken a stroll through that park, It yielded a few shots that I might post here in the future.
But when I came back the next day to see if I can improve upon this shot, the tulip was gone and all that remained was the stem.

Noticed this spider out of the corner of my eye one evening; it had taken up residence in a lamp, which made for some interesting photos. I would've liked to have seen it catch something...that could add another element to the shot
When Vanilla Leaf starts to finish for the year they get very thin and translucent with a nice vein structure, so I placed some colored leaves as a base with vanilla leaf on top. This was a test to try the 240 mp pixelshift with a 1 x 4 focus stacked panorama but I didn't have enough ram to stack them so they had to be down sized then there was some leaf curling causing movement so that had to be cropped out but I still ended up with enough to make a 2' x 5' print.
Workflow wise using the A7rIV pixelshift I shoot the raws then assemble them in Sony Imaging Edge Desktop Viewer into .arq files then I create a profile in Rawtherapee then using the Rawtherapee-cli I convert the files to tiff, then these are stacked in Zerene Stacker, and the finished picture is edited in Photoshop.
Another tiny Mycena mushroom growing on the moss covered branch of a tree. With the day being wet and overcast there was only dim light under the tree cover. We are seeing some Bioluminescence here, like something from the deep oceans. (Thank you Wikipedia...)

I wasn't sure if I have anything translucent for today's theme. So while picking up some stuff at the mall, I went to Diaso and fragrance bottle at SGD 2.18 for photo taking :)
I place the bottle lying down sideways and placed a few LED bulbs behind to create this.

While editing this shot of a plaster cast putto or cherub (contre-jour and, hence, translucent; Leica M8, Elmar 90/4) it occurred to me that translucency was the first step in the evolution of the eye. Our pre-Cambrian multicellular ancestors developed "eye spots" that allowed them to distinguish between dark and bright areas. And, if things went well, even to guess where the light came from. For many creatures this is enough to survive. Snails, for example, are still on this level. Photographers would not be happy with this. They want a lot more than translucency, namely transparence, to look through a lens and see clearly what is out there. The optical principle of the camera is mimicking our eyes - we (and lots of other creatures) have got "camera eyes". They are extremely useful. Guaranteeing survival they do not. Hundreds of species having camera eyes have perished. Snails are still going strong.
Haworthia cooperi diamonds are nothing more than their transparent tipped leaves. This characteristic of the plant is much appreciated for its beauty, and it becomes clearer in contact with light.
Its leaves start green from the root and start to dissolve in small threads, and on top of the leaf, a crystalline "jewel" is sustained, which looks like a drop of water protected by a light and thin film. In its natural habitat, it is all covered by the earth, leaving only its diamonds out, as it only needs them for the photosynthesis process.
The morphology of Haworthia cooperi is very interesting, as I mentioned earlier, the process of photosynthesis is done through its diamonds. It has a small stature and a short trunk, its stem is barely visible, as the leaves are all stuck to it like a bouquet. Its leaves are predominantly green, but there can be variations.
Depending on the time of year, the leaves may turn reddish or brown. The growth form of Haworthia does not work for the vertical, but for the horizontal, because its leaves do not get bigger nor its trunk taller, what happens is the birth of new leaves, which make the bouquet become more and more full and expand sideways.
