Aboard the Spirit Of Queensland.
We splashed out on the 24h train journey from Cairns to Brisbane, doing everything else by plane. We are both big train travel fans but having only a month in Australia and five destinations, we couldn't give up multiple days to travel.

The 1047 002-8 of MÁV ( Hungarian State Railways ) runs with RO-LA ( Rollende Landstrasse ) train to Wels, Austria.
A westbound coal train, led by a fresh-looking CNW C44-9w, and a UP Sd50, Sd40-2 and Sd60m rolls through the desert near Sage siding, Nevada (40.781095, -114.541030) some 15 miles or so from I80, and the quietest place I have ever been. It was so quiet my ears were ringing-when the wind wasn't blasting across the valley floor. The sun disappeared as the train appeared, leaving me with a bland sky and the distant mountains mostly a dream. In a few miles the train will burrow through a ridge in Hogan Tunnel, over which goes one of the worst roads imaginable.
This was July 11, 1996, and I was in between being a college freshman and a sophomore. It was one of the places I'd most like to return to, railfanning wise.

Freight train ready to loop the overland with THE GHAN NR18 locomotive at the back. NR36 is getting sent to the workshop for a repaint and part of it has been sanded making the train look absolutely ridiculous having a ghan behind this horribly ugly scratched up train! The fleet of locomotives are! NR 35, NR 36 and NR 18 + NR 29 on the overland.
The orange 20s lead a daytime Banbury - Chaddesdon tube stock move. I do like the 'almost 20s pulling tank train' angle.
An attempt to show model trains from the real world perspective. The biggest problem to film it with my FinePix F31fd was the depth of field. I don't know whether it works better with a real video camera but I have none. On the model railroad layouts of the model railroad club in Altstätten, Switzerland, Nov 7, 2009.
