A coal train waits in the siding at Scenic, Washington to meet a very late westbound Empire Builder, itself waiting for a new rail to be installed just behind the photographer.

On this day, the three of us went to the coast of Keelung, Taiwan, in the rainy weather. As everyone said, the sea breeze was very cold, and the return trip was hidden in the train compartment.

If memory serves me correct, 2007 was the last time I’ve seen this machine and granted, I was only 8 years old at the time.

BNSF 2911 “The Pill” is one of two former BN GP39Es (technically it’s a former GP35 for the SLSF ) that received the experimental 1995 merger treatment that BN/SF did with some of their machines early on.

The 2911 is the former BN 2560. It’s experimental scheme is evidenced by the large ”Wagon Wheel” H1 nose decal on the nose coveri by where the (faded but showing) BN logo is. The sides feature the H1 style “BNSF” lettering and the numberboard sides under the engineer and conductor feature a white oval like hue, hence gaining the machines nickname: ”The Pill”.

2911 has been widely away in Kansas and Texas for awhile. Since the last time I’ve seen it, I had the assumption that it would stay in the heartland and possibly facing eventual storage or repaint. But last week, I learned that the famed machine somehow made its way to Chicagoland and found its new assignment on the Eola based local RCHI-452 which has seen oddball BNSF machines before. Learning about this led to me coming out to photograph it in great light, chasing it from Batavia to Aurora! Very happy to finally see and photograph this thing after so many years!

A Virgin class 221 SuperVoyager hurries north along the West Coast Main Line close to Hopwas in the Tame Valley. The pillbox formed part of the Western Command Stop Line No.6 and ran from Tamworth, E side of Stoke-on-Trent, to Macclesfield and Stockport, thence to 6 miles SE of Manchester.

For those who lived in Paris, this train is famous. The RER A is the suburban train that most of the Parisian take every morning to go to work.

This is my humble tribute to this packed out train.

I'm still chipping away at this winter project. here's the train in the tunnel. Still working on Santa's house up top. Any tips for breaking up the verticle rock pattern?

B-Train as they are used in Scandinavia, the last part is a regular trailer. Instead of 60t, the driver can easily decouple the middle part and move on as a regular 40t semi, which are commonly used in the rest of Europe

Mary's model trains, O gauge. On the left is an MTH Illinois Central diesel engine, and on the right is Harry Potter's Hogwarts Express. We just started this winter, so all the track is still on the carpet in the front room. I've got some very cool "night" shots of the set coming up in the queue...
