Last weekend we checked out the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. Very cool, and well worth the extra cash to sit in the special car that's behind the loco on the way out, and all the way at the end of the train on the way back.

Northern Railway is organising Steam Heritage Run during January 2007 from Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station . This train was drawn by the WP 7200 engine which is a Broad Gauge locomotive. This engine is one of the 16 prototype engines, which were received from U.S.A before their regular production began at Chittranjan Locomotive Works in West Bengal. This engine was manufactured at Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia, U.S.A in 1947 and it weighs about 102.4 tonnes and has a gauge of 5ft 6 inches. This engine was retired from service in 1987. The 4 coaches attached to the trains were all heritage coaches, of which two were from the Railway owned by the Nizam of Hyderabad.. The WP steam engines were the main stay of Broad-gauge passenger trains operations on the Indian Railways until 1995 when they were finally phased out.
