NS OAR Safety Train deadheads through Albers, IL on the Southern West District. The train was running between a display site at Mount Vernon, IL and the St. Louis area. Grady grabs some video while standing in the footprint of the depot.
RA, DW and the local scanner feed all get credit for helping out on this one.

Trains reminds me of the days when I lived on the Ethridge line in far north Queensland when everything would come in the train, school work, supplies, Christmas...my brother and I as young children when Dad was away droving we would take the pack horses to the siding and collect and ride home, we were doing this from the ages of 5 and he was 9...can remember as if were yesterday
We used to sit besides the track,
Watching trains go clickety clack.
We'd count each carriage passing by,
And smell the smoke that filled the sky.
A trick that made our parents pale,
Was lay our ears upon the rail
To listen for a steady drumming,
And know that soon a train was coming.
Then back we'd stand with cap in hand,
Our little hearts apounding.
We had no fear as we stood near,
And heard the whistle sounding.
Excitement there beyond compare,
The train had come at last.
And as a child I'd jump for joy
As it went puffing past.
With widened eyes we'd watch the skies
Filled with smoke and steam.
Of things we did when we were kids,
This would be the cream.
But that's all gone. They've 'progressed' on.
There's something new each day.
And on the track we feel the lack,
The steam has passed away.

My first crack at building my Lego train station with actual bricks! These are photos using my new light tent now, not renders.
There are a few shortcomings to this model:
- I was short a handful of bricks, and so you'll see some incorrect colours here and there.
- The build has demonstrated some structural weaknesses.
- I've come up with a few more ideas to add detail since the last render I posted.
I've adjusted the design on the computer and ordered a smaller batch of bricks to make these final adjustments.
...an historic train has been in continuous operation for 128 years...
...looks like "back to the future"...

Loco 1079 Class BB18¼
4-6-2 steam locomotive operated by the Queensland Railways. The locomotives operated on 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) gauge. The “B”, is used to identify the number of coupled wheels, being six coupled wheels for the BB18¼ class, followed by numerals indicating the cylinder diameter of 18¼ inches.

This pic isn't as dramatic as the other one from the same place and in B&W, but I think this good ol' Budd/Mafersa train fits this place too well to just not post this picture.
This one is from the 1400 Series of CPTM and was built in Brazil by Mafersa in the mid-1970s based on the project of the 100 Series, an American train made in the 1950s by The Budd Company and still in operation by this same CPTM as the 1100 Series.
One thing that always amazed me about both these American trains made by Budd and the Mafersa ones made under Budd licence in Brazil is how the stainless steel still shines better than any other trains, including the much newer ones, even after decades of use, abuse, neglect and vandalism. Those guys sure knew how to made a good stainless steel train...

Freight Train, freight train, go so fast....
This train was keeping up with us as we were driving on Route 66 in AZ. I took it from the moving car...the graffiti on the rail cars -bottom of the yellow cars - is impressive.
When Chris Kaepplinger at the right side retired it did not go unnoticed among his fellow ex-Milwaukee Road friends came out in force to say good-bye to a long timetime friend . Duke Artman at left who retired two years ago started in 1963 as a conductor ,Lampy in the center engineer in 1968 as well as Chris at right side 1968 .The far right side is retired Rich Miller retired last year started in 1966 .All these employees worked and ran the famous city passenger trains out of Elgin
