Developed as a sister marque to the legendary Ferrari, Dino recalled the name of Enzo Ferrari's son Alfredion, who died of leukaemia in 1956.
The Dino name was used on racing Formula cars in the 1960s. The first road car to use the name was the Dino 206 GT, shown in Turin in 1967. The car featured a 180 degree Vee-six of 2.0 litre capacity. The engine was rated at 180 hp.
Although not particularly powerful, the car was blessed with a lovely chassis and delicate handling. Any power worries were mitigated by enlarging the engine to 2.4 litres capacity in 1969 with the release of the Dino 246 GT. The cars overall mass increased however, due to the casting of the ngine block in iron instead of aluminium. The result was an additional 15 hp, but the main benefit was to midrange torque, increasing the driveability.
The Dino GT was supplemented by the 246 GTS in 1972 which featured a lift-out roof panel 'targa' style roof. Minor changes to the side window treatment also identify this model easily.
One of the most beautiful 'Ferraris' ever, the car was replaced in 1973 by on of the least graceful, the Dino 308 GT4 (later named and badged as a Ferrari). The first series production Ferrari styled by someone other than Farina - in this case Bertone.
The Dino phantom lives on - each generation awaiting the release of a light-weight delicate beautiful Ferrari companion.
Polaroid Type 87 film (3000 speed) on Polaroid Square Shooter. 6/8
I purchased some fresh Polaroid Type 87 film from B&H. it arrived last week. I loaded it into my Polaroid Square Shooter on Tuesday morning and took the camera with me for the day.
After work, while at Cal Anderson Park around 4pm on a gorgeous sunny and warm afternoon I snapped two photos of people at the park. The first was a couple taking photos of each other on the grassy knoll. I asked them if it was okay to take a photo of them taking photos to test some film I just got and they said okay. At the moment of pressing the shutter the young man moved forward and kissed his girlfriend. How romantic! It was going to make a lovely picture! I promised to show them the snapshot as soon as it developed.
The photo came out mostly white. I then realized Type 87 is 3000 speed. The original Square Shooter is not designed to use Type 87, only Type 88, especially with such bright sunshine. I told them what happened. :(
So I took another of a man sitting on the next bench over, reading. I moved the darken dial all the way to the end. Still more white.
So, I figured since I was going to the ballet that evening I'd take the camera with me to test the film in low light.
I arrived early to McCaw Hall to participate in the pre-performance lecture. Starbucks was doing a demo of their Dulce De Leche drink. I took a photo. I homeless man came by to ask me what I was doing. I told him. He made comments about the camera. I explained about the camera and film. He was fascinated by the old camera and told me stories about shopping-- for a buddy that works at Easy Street Records in Queen Anne-- for old 600 cameras at Goodwill. A 15 minute conversation ensued. Finally I had to say goodbye and go in.
Anyway...I went in. During the first intermission there was a one tiny dance morsel for the audience at the Promenade. I took a photo.
Then I walked up to the level above the cafe and took another shot. After the performance was over I snapped a couple photos of the dancers and conductor on the stage. I was sitting on row B so I was already close to the stage. Of course, no flash was used (the camera uses Magicubes but I dislike flash photography on principle).
Later on, after the post performance Q&A I walked outside, in the rain and took a photo of the Space Needle.
Then I went home. :)
The first three photos of the series have been darkened and made more contrasty using Photo Shop Elements 5.0 for the only purpose of allowing you to see, even in a very raw format, what I saw when I took them, what they might have looked like if the conditions had been ideal. The renditions, of course, are crap, but at least you can see more than just a ghostly blur on white.

The DB7 was introduced as a Grand Tourer in 1994 continueing through to 2004. he DB7, known internally as the NPX project, was made mostly with resources from Jaguar and had the financial backing of the Ford Motor Company, owner of Aston Martin from 1988 to 2007. The DB7's platform is an evolution of the Jaguar XJS's, though with many changes. The styling started life as the still-born Jaguar F type (XJ41 – coupe / XJ42 – convertible) designed by Keith Helfet. Ford cancelled this car and the general design was grafted onto an XJS platform. The styling received modest changes by Ian Callum so that it looked like an Aston Martin. The first generation Jaguar XK-8 also uses an evolution of the XJ-S/DB7 platform and the cars share a family resemblance, though the Aston Martin was significantly more expensive and rare. The DB7 was engineered in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, by Tom Walkinshaw Racing on behalf of Aston Martin. The standard DB7 was powered by a 3.2 litre S6
The V12 Vantage was a new and more powerful variant. launched at the 1999 Geneva Motorshow. Powered by a 5.9 litre, 48-valve, V12 engine produced 420 bhp and 400 lb·ft of torque. Transmissions were available with either a TREMEC T-56 six speed manual or a ZF 5HP30 five speed automatic gearbox. Aston Martin claimed it had a top speed of either 186 mph with the manual gearbox and 165mph for the Automatic, with a 0-60mph time of 4.9seconds for the maual with a weight of 1800kg.
After the launch of the Vantage, sales of the supercharged straight-6 engine DB7 had reduced considerably and so production was ended by mid-1999.
