The Series Sixty-two was a model produced by Cadillac from 1940 through 1964 when it was renamed “Calais” for the 1965 model year. It was one of Cadillac’s most popular models. For the 1949 model year, the Series Sixty-two spawned the “Coupe deVille.”
For the 1953 model year the world was introduced to the very first Series Sixty-two Eldorado. The Series Sixty-two convertible was one of America’s most luxurious convertibles. Cadillac’s magnificent new design and craftsmanship were dramatically displayed in the 1957 Cadillac Series Sixty-two convertible.
Cadillac for the 1957 model year was completely redesigned. A Cadillac convertible was the celebrity among Cadillacs. There was no more gracious manner in which to enjoy open-air touring than the 1957 Series Sixty-two convertible. Its aristocratic flair was dramatic and pronounced.
Apart from the Biarritz convertible, the Series Sixty-two convertible was the most elegant convertible built in the land. It was the synthesis of two motoring worlds; it had all the panache of a ragtop and the comfort of a luxury car. Style code #6267F Series Sixty-two convertible had a base price of $5,225. (Cadillac repairs today run up tabs along these same dollar amounts…amazing)
The 1957 Cadillacs were all-new in design from the 1956 models. The 1957 cars presented a new sleekness in every line as witnessed by the Series Sixty-two convertible. They were built almost 3” lower in overall height.
The front end ensemble was boldly aggressive. It retained the “Dagmars.” The sweep of its new fender lines extended back to the redesign of the iconic Cadillac tail fins.
The convertible’s silhouette was highlighted by chrome-framed wheel openings and extended contour lines to both front and rear fenders. The fender skirts were dropped for a cleaner more contemporary look at the time.
All Cadillac bodies were built by the Fleetwood Division of Fisher Body under relentless quality control procedures. The Series Sixty-two convertible rode upon a long 129.5” wheelbase, had the luxury length of 220.9” and an 80” wide stance.
The Cadillac 6.0 litre 365 CID 16-valve V8 engine had five main bearings, intake silencer, and hydraulic lifters. It was constructed with cast iron, block and cylinder heads. The engine was equipped with a Rochester 4-bbl downdraft Quadrajet carburetor with equalized manifold, and automatic choke. It produced 300 hp @ 4,800 rpm with 542 Nm of peak torque @ 2,800 rpm. Performance was rated as 0-60 mph in 11.2 seconds, 0-100 mph in 33.1 seconds with a top speed of 119 mph. It could do the ¼ mile @ 81 mph in 18.1 seconds.
The Cadillac Series sixty-two convertible was a triumph of motoring distinction. Its unmatched comfort and spacious dignity was the finest expression of Cadillac’s dramatically new styling. In the way it looked and the way it drove, the 1957 Cadillac Series Sixty-two convertible introduced a brand new measure of excitement to modern luxury motoring…done in the manner only the “Standard of the World” could provide. This is another classic encore presentation…in the continuing saga of “As the Standard of the World Turns.”

Power is the name of the game.
In order to create the much needed power you have to have the gigantic wind turbine to twist and torque it's way towards generating energy.
Pushing on that trigger is like pulling magic into my very soul...Darrell.
Have a safe and fabulous year 2022 dear Flickr friends !
A bit late since he uploaded it, but stylish picture taken by Torque_gtb. Awesome work on this picture Torque! Yet another picture founded by torque, can't seem to get enough of them!
Ho-hum another car going by on three (and often only 2) wheels, think I'll go for a walk.
As always, this Olds lo-rider stole the show at our local cruise night. Using hydraulic pumps and cylinders (instead of springs and shocks) they are able to control each wheel independently. Once locked in place they can cruise on two wheels and even stay stopped at the light; balanced on 2 sets of rubber only ---- amazing engineering and torque !
Fluid couplings, fluid flywheels and torque converters, all employ fluid, usually oil, to provide initially, on engine tick over, a degree of slip in the mechanism, ( like a disengaged clutch/ that is pedal depressed ) when we engage drive, as in a car for instance, we release the handbrake, increase the engine revolutions, by means of the accelerator pedal, and by increasing the input speed the fluid friction increases, until we have in effect a "solid" drive, and hence vehicle movement.
The resemblance visually /externally is reasonably accurate, internally there are only vague similarities.......
This image comprises a water fountain head in a domed spray setting or mode, and hence is a fluid form.
I have taken the man out of the engineering ( via retirement ) but i cannot remove the engineering from the man.. it has become too far ingrained, even without conscious thought, the mind flows into it.

The inspiration here is 'Torque' by Kristin Hersh. Download, free & legal, in high quality here. Lyrics here. I only discovered her music some three years ago, and now listen to it all the time. Especially since I found out about her latest album.
Just now I found this page with the history of the song. Anyway -- the photo is about this bit here where a human being's very nature is explored and questioned.

Very unusual car, from a company now best known for manufacturing lorries. This looked like a well-used and loved old thing, and nice and original. UK spec car too, presumably.
There is only one other Deluxe Auto on the roads, and 14 of all models as of 2018. I find it rather amusing that it is fitted with a towbar! I cannot imagine the 746cc engine being capable of pulling much! A mighty 32BHP and 57nM of torque.

The Enchanted City is a Spanish natural landscape of limestone or limestone rock formations formed over thousands of years. It is located near Valdecabras, in the municipality of Cuenca (Spain), in a large area of pine forests of the southern part of the Cuenca mountains and at an altitude of 1,500 meters.
It was declared a Natural Site of National Interest on June 11, 1929. The action of water, wind and ice has made this karst phenomenon. The heterogeneity of the rocks in their morphology, chemical composition and hardness is what has allowed the uneven wear thereof by the atmospheric elements, resulting in a stunning display of art from the picturesque nature. A whimsical and spectacular formations have to add existing sinkholes, torques and sinks.

Flight safety is enhanced through the use of torque paint (aka, torque seal, torque stripe, indicator paint, tamper paint, ...) which is a quick drying brittle paint applied to certain critical parts such as push-rods or propeller bolts.
After the part is properly tightened, the mechanic applies a dab of paint indicating the step is completed. At each pre-flight the connections are checked. Any movement or loosening will cause the paint to crack and flake off indicating there is a mechanical problem impacting safety.

- While visiting the VW factory in 1947, Dutch car importer Ben Pon came up wîth the idea for the Bus (drawn on the back of his cigar box ☺) as we know it today.
- Officially launched on November 12, 1949, the Transporter line did not go on sale to the general public until March 1950. The Typ 2 T1a were among the first “forward control” vans in which the driver was placed above the front roadwheels.
- At first the T1a was only produced in the Wolfsburg plant, but from March 8, 1956 in a new plant in Hanover (VW-Werk Hannover).
- Versions created until 1955 were known as the T1a. These versions are often called the 'Barndoor' versions due to their large rear engine cover.
- The T1b were produced from 1955 through 1963. These versions had a smaller engine cover and smaller, 15-inch wheels.
- The T1c was introduced in 1963 and produced until 1967. These versions had a wider rear door.
- German production stopped after the 1967 model year; however, the T1 still was made in in São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil until 1975.
- The varieties were huge, from Transporter, Camper, Delivery Van, Kombi, Microbus, Pick-Up, Ambulance, Ladder Truck, Police Vans, Buses etc.
- The T1 was very popular in the USA (Hippie Bus☺): by 1964 it was accounting for over 63% of all import vehicle sales.

The 105 series Coupe was designed by Bertone and fitted with a 1570cc engine, five speed manual gearbox and coil suspension all round, Early cars had disc front brakes and drum rears, later cars Dunlop disc brakes all round. Later 1966 GT Veloce cars are fitted with twin carburettors and have an output of 109bhp and top speeds of 110mph.
In 1966 the Giulia Sprint GT was replaced by the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Veloce, very similar but featuring a number of improvements: a revised engine—slightly more powerful and with more torque—better interior fittings and changes to the exterior trim. The Sprint GT Veloce was introduced at the 36th Geneva Motor Show in March 1966, with production commencing in 1965. The Veloce's type 00536 engine, identical to the Spider 1600 Duetto's, with larger diameter exhaust valves than the outgoing GT model increasing power to 108hp (109 PS) According to the manufacturer top speed now exceeded 185 km/h (115 mph)
Though the Sprint GT Veloce's replacement—the 1750 GT Veloce—was introduced in 1967, production continued throughout the year and thirty final cars were completed in 1968

Special:
- The first high performance, low drag two-seater based on aircraft design principals was designed by Sixten Sason in 1954. SAAB’s management was not interested in pursuing the car, after Rolf Mellde and his team built in secret there first prototype.
- "Sonett" is Swedish for "how nice".
- Although the Sonett II was specially designed for the US market, sales were bad (1966-1970: 258 units built with a 3 cylinder 841cc / 2-stroke engine and 1,538 units built wit a 1498cc Ford V-4). Italian designer Sergio Coggiola drew a new design (adjusted by Gunnar A. Sjögren to use the mid section of the Sonett II and SAAB 96 parts like brakes and suspension), the Sonett III. It still had the underpowered Ford V-4 engine (floor shift now) and was still not a Sports Car.
- The Sonett III, with pop-up headlights, was introduced at the 1970 New York Motor Show and assembled at AB Zweedse Järnvägsverkstäderna (ASJ) in Arlöv (Sweden).
- From model year 1971 this stronger 1699cc Ford V-4 became standard, in order to handle US emissions controls.
- In 1974, unable to handle the more strict automobile emission control in the US, production on the Sonett III ended.
