In the last couple of years or so, Surrey CC have gone for stop specific timetables, which is fair enough as it's the way things are going industry-wide.

Personally, I'm not a fan - as stop specific gives less information, and I can read a bus timetable.

New timetables are now up for the 556 and 557 for the SCC Bus Review changes from 29th August 2015. Here's the one at Woking Cawsey Way.

Unfortunately, it completely fails to show which journeys are 556s and which journeys are 557s! They (obviously) take different routes, but the route bar at the top shows only the 557. What a nightmare.

The York Vale Line timetable 12-5-80 to 10-5-81

When bus services were deregulated on 26 October 1986, Cheshire Bus, Cheshire County Council’s bus support and information service, produced a series of timetable leaflets for bus services in Cheshire.

Macclesfield District leaflet 5.10 provided details of Cheshire Bus tendered limited stop service 300 linking Wilmslow with Wythenshawe Hospital via Handforth, Heald Green and Manchester International Airport which had four daytime journeys Monday to Saturday at two hourly intervals. The service was initially operated by Crosville Motor Services.

From 27 April 1987 an additional evening journey in each direction was added to the timetable and by this time operation of the service had passed to Shearings.

By May 1990 operation of the service had passed to the Bee Line Buzz Company’s C-Line branded unit and from 4 June 1990 C-Line operated the four daytime journeys on a commercial basis with Cheshire Bus contract to operate the evening tendered journey being awarded to Star Line.

From 10 December 1990 buses on service 300 observed all stops and there was a route change in Handforth. By this time the tendered evening service ran on Fridays and Saturdays only and was operated by GM Buses.

From 5 August 1991 C-Line, which had become a separate Drawlane subsidiary company in January 1991, extended its daytime commercial 300 journeys to run from Macclesfield to Wythenshawe Hospital but from 10 September 1991 the Macclesfield to Wilmslow section was withdrawn. C-Line came under the control of Midland Red North in December 1992 and was assimilated by Midland Red North in 1994.

Another reorganisation by British Bus saw Macclesfield depot and service 300 pass to Stevensons of Uttoxeter in 1995. From April 1997, Stevensons discontinued its service 300 and the 287 Macclesfield to Wilmslow service was extended to additionally serve Styal and Manchester Airport with some journeys, numbered 187, operating via Bollington. The 187/287 services were financially supported by Cheshire Bus and Manchester International Airport and included six Sunday journeys although Stevensons operated three daily commercial 287 journeys Monday to Friday. From 5 May 1997 Star Line, which had been acquired by British Bus in 1995, started to operate four daily journeys on service 300 on a commercial basis Monday to Saturday plus one Cheshire Bus tendered evening journey.

Services 300 and 187/287 were subsequently discontinued although elements of these services still exist in Cheshire East Council tendered service 200 between Wilmslow and Manchester Airport via Styal which GHA Coaches, initially through its subsidiary Vale Travel, took over from Swans Travel in October 2012 and which passed to Howards Travel Group when GHA Coaches ceased trading in July 2016 (Service 200 originated as a six month experimental service between Wilmslow, Styal and Manchester Airport, connecting with trains at the newly opened Manchester Airport railway station, which was operated by Chesterfield Transport’s Whites of Calver subsidiary from 31 May 1994).
