Intra (IATA code JY) operated some very regional services on the weekend to the Channel Isles. Carlisle, Swansea and Cambridge have not had public scheduled services for years yet back in 1979 Viscounts and Heralds operates flights to Jersey and Guernsey. Fares were between £41 and £63 return then.

Looking at the map it seems that JY flew some more exotic routes toFrance, Belgium and Germany, too.

In the last couple of years or so, Surrey CC have gone for stop specific timetables, which is fair enough as it's the way things are going industry-wide.

Personally, I'm not a fan - as stop specific gives less information, and I can read a bus timetable.

New timetables are now up ready for the SCC Bus Review changes to the 34 and 35 from 30th August 2015. Here's the Camberley-bound stop at Woking station.

Two questions arise: how do you know it goes via Hermitage Estate on Sundays (indeed the route bar at the top says 'Knaphill Surrey Hermitage' (=Hermitage, The Surrey) so specifically says that Sunday buses go that way when they don't)?

Secondly, why isn't it combined with the 35 times on one sheet?!

Also, the 134 is missing so it only shows the 1550 departure as a 34 on non-schooldays only.

A general issue with stop specific timetables is that they only give an approximate journey time, for example the 34 to Camberley here is shown as 55 minutes to reach the destination. But, on long routes, there can be significant variance. For example, a quick look at the timetable shows one journey timed to do it in 40 minutes!

Would you believe I have stashed away these 1970s-vintage airline timetables for posterity?

Weird, I know. But printed material of this nature - anything at all, really - is fast disappearing. You may not recognise it yourself but paper as an office "staple" has been on the slide for at least 30 years. With every passing year more paper invoices, receipts, tickets, timetables, instructions, labels and "forms" are replaced by an online equivalent. Once gone they won't return. Not that I'm a Luddite, far from it. I just like to document some of the simplest, perhaps least important details of our human civilised history as it passes....

Timetable of Bad Pirawarth station on 15 September 2019. Ten train pairs served the station, on weekdays only. It wouldn't become better: services on the entire 'Schweinbarther Kreuz' line (Obersdorf-Groß Schweinbarth-(Bad Pirawarth)-Gänserndorf were suspended on 14 December 2019.

A sign that the end was coming - their WordPass frequent flyer program was discontinued and members would be moved over to Delta's program.

Not many years ago this was a busy bus stop serving up to four buses an hour. These days there is just one bus per hour to shortly after 7PM with no service on Sunday.

I would much prefer to buy my train tickets from a human being and not a vending machine. You can do this but you have to look around for the ticket office. The trains were generally pleasant and not crowded except for the Circumvesuviana line which was kind of a zoo. Crowded and you will be lucky to find a seat. Nor was it obvious to me WHICH train was the right one.
