my first venture into infrared photography...!! I've been wanting to get into it for so long...
taking this photo i was actually testing three things at once: a cheap Haida IR720 filter, my "new" (used) Gitzo G2228 tripod (bought just 30mins prior!) and a "new" (used) Canon EF 16-35mm 2.8L. i quickly discovered that this lens isn't very good for infrared photography as it often produces a hotspot in the center of the image-- but whatever! i love this leans!!! Photoshop (and Lightroom) is my friend! oh, and the cheap filter works well. :)
"timeless" pretty much describes infrared photography to me.
Roaming around the shores of Lake Tahoe on this clear evening, the natural beauty of the location was instantly evident. Truly an amazing location with so many interesting photography opportunities. The challenge for me was trying to find a way to capture that beauty, despite the incredibly boring clear skies. I decided to get creative, and pulled out the filter that never fails me in these conditions, my big stopper. With a new vision of long exposures and B&W photos in my head, I walked the rocks around Bonsai Rock again, looking for a good opportunity.
Hopping from rock to rock along the shore, I stumbled across this scene of a dead branch that had washed onto one of the rocks about ten feet out from shore (No, I did not place it there and sure as hell was not going to get wet to even get close to it). The scene was just too good to pass up, so I pulled out my medium reach lens and started playing with a few compositions. This one was my favorite, and I felt it conveys the emotions of the scene, and the vision I had in my mind the best.
Thanks for viewing and I always appreciate your comments and critique.

"Timeless Wonderland" -
I invite you to a world where there is no such thing as time....
Yesterday I had a really lovely customer to shoot with. It's gorgeous Yui Cosplay!
I'm so happy that she asked me to take pictures of her cosplay. You know what I love the most about my job? To fulfill someone's hearts desire!
She always wanted to have Alice in Wonderland pictures like that and I'm glad that I could realize her dream.

Sometimes there are clouds. Then they pass. Yet the mountains remain solid. stable. firm.
Clouds of emotions may pass through the gateways of our lives. Yet what remains is timeless. Memories fade. But not what observes the memories.

#Macedonia * Florina * Ancient Macedonia * Macedonia
WIKI: "The city's original Byzantine name, Χλέρινον (Chlérinon, "full of green vegetation"), derives from the Greek word χλωρός (chlōrós, "fresh" or "green vegetation"). The name was sometimes Latinized as Florinon (from the Latin flora, "vegetation") in the later Byzantine period, and in early Ottoman documents the forms Chlerina and Florina are both used, with the latter becoming standard after the 17th century. The form with [f] (φλωρός) is a local dialect form of χλωρός in Greek. The much later Slavic name Lerin (Лерин), is a borrowing of the Byzantine Greek name with the loss of the initial [x] characteristic of the local dialect."
The vast majority of the population in Florina are indigenous Greek-Macedonians.
Continuing my Gone With the Wind series, I acquired the beautiful White Prayer dress from the Barbie Timeless Treasures Scarlett O'Hara doll. The dress is beautiful and really nicely made. It is white cotton with lace trim, tiny buttons down the front, cameo jewel at the neck and a red satin ribbon belt. It also has a lace edged petticoat with loops for a crinoline cage. As usual, however, the back closure is marred by the use of poppers so I decided to upcycle it with some tiny pearl buttons. I also added a hoop of dressmakers boning to the crinoline loop. I will be taking some photos of my gorgeous Agnes/ Scarlett wearing this fabulous dress but just wanted to share the upcycling process:
- Remove poppers
- Dress the doll in the dress and on the right side of the fabric sew the back seam using back stitch exactly down the middle of her back, correcting the fit as much as possible to the new doll body (this was made for the traditional large busted Barbie). Use a contrasting thread because the idea is to mark the new sewing line.
Using small sharp dressmaking scissors, carefully cut down the threads to open up the seam making sure some threads are retained on both sides.
Sew a running thread down this line, again using contrasting thread, having first measured from the side seams to make sure each side of the dress is equal.
At this point I needed to cut shaping slits in the bound edges of the dress because it needs to curve into her back. Without these cuts the dress would sit badly and give her a humped look.
Remove all the loose threads carefully. You don't want any to be trapped inside the turned edge, especially if you used a colour that could stain the fabric... you still have the running thread marking the line of the back closure.
Now turn the edges of the dress inside and careful tack it in place making sure to fold the edges exactly along the running thread marking the line of the back closure. When you have finished tacking the folded-in edges in place, the exact position of the back closure has been fixed so you can remove the running thread.
Next stitch the turned edges to the inside of the dress using a combination of fine 'invisible' hemming stitch (taking only a couple of threads from the dress side of the fabric) and at this point I also bound the edges of the shaping slits to prevent fraying using a small blanket stitch. I did not fix down the edge bound slits to the dress, to keep some flexibility in how the dress fits the curve of her back.
Once you have a nicely finished edge, all you need to do is add tiny beads or buttons and loops to close the back. I like to add a matching set of buttons opposite the functional ones so the look is more even. I sew on the 'functional' buttons first then create the loops at the right position opposite and at the same time attach the decorative matching button.
Now the dress looks as beautiful from the back as it does from the front!

This was a shot for the sunday strobist groups "Time" theme. I was looking around the house at the many old clocks that are around to find one that I could open to get a picture of the gears that run the clock... but I couldn't find any and my grandfather went into his safe and handed me a couple old pocket watches. This one was his fathers. So this is my great-grandfathers pocket watch.
I had shot a watch before, www.flickr.com/photos/machschnell18t/2834279071/ so I knew how to control the glare of the flashes from showing up on the watch face. Thanks for any comments you may leave!

一張可以完全表達一個人對照片內容的最深沈的感受的照片才是張絕佳的照片。
A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed.
