Kimono for an infant boy, 1932-45
A child's first visit to a Shintō shrine, about thirty days after birth, marked an important rite of passage. Infant boys would be draped in kimono with motifs symbolic of achievement and strength. In the 1930s, traditional samurai images were replaced by contemporary militaristic ones. Wrapping the young child in an image of a battleship symbolised wishes for both his and the nation's future.

Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk
(February to October 2020)
This exhibition will present the kimono as a dynamic and constantly evolving icon of fashion, revealing the sartorial, aesthetic and social significance of the garment from the 1660s to the present day, both in Japan and the rest of the world.
The ultimate symbol of Japan, the kimono is often perceived as traditional, timeless and unchanging. Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk, the UK's first major exhibition on kimono, counters this conception, presenting the garment as a dynamic and constantly evolving icon of fashion.

This is a story about a group of retired men, about dynamics, about backgammon and cards and domino.
This is a story of a timeless game.
At the MahaneYeuda market in Jerusalem, gorups of bored retired men sitting all day long inside of a club. They pay 10 Nis per hour of games. Tea with lemon and black coffee are for free, if you happen to be thirsty.
Between roll of the dice to another, there are stories about the wife, the government, the previous life... It is a kind of a gang. Each and his story, and for 9 hours a day the stories unite.
Each one and his basket, they go around the market, one day it's a fresh red cherry, another day it's a new cooking pot. And at noon, every day, it's the famous Sambusak of Rivka for lunch.

Kerala often referred to as Keralam, is a state in the south-west region of India on the Malabar coast. Wedged between the Western Ghats on the East and the Arabian Sea on the West, the narrow strip of land known as Kerala is a destination of a lifetime.The timeless beauty of the palm fringed beaches of Kovalam and Varkala, the majesty of the undulating hills of Munnar and Vagamon, the serenity of the pristine backwaters of Kumarakom & Kuttanad and the enchanting woods and forests of Thekkady and Silent Valley will have you bowled over.
I guess this is a scene you could have seen even centuries ago. However, the saffron robes suggest Buddhist monks, while the temple, at least when it was built in the late 9th to early 10th century, was Hindu.
