It doesn't get much more quintessentially midwestern than this, tracks stretching off straight to the horizon, a classic elevator, and a handful of cars spotted on the sidetrack. Wessington, SD, September 10, 2023.

This isn’t your typical perspective of the Old Town Clock on Citadel Hill in Halifax. The damp, overcast night created the perfect conditions for the clock's lights to radiate a soft, enchanting glow, giving the scene a timeless charm.

My husband and I watched as she caught her fish. She jumped for joy and ran with glee. As I looked at the site, I wondered how many times this lake had witnessed the same scene. Processed using a duotone layer and a texture from Flickr buddy, Shaefer.

This lady took my breath away when she came on the screen. I have never been a fan of Adele 3.0 sculpt. This is a WINNER across the board. The dress can go because I'm not a gown chick

Happy Father's Day to my father, E.C. Alft. He was awarded a day dedicated to him from the City of Elgin, Illinois and presented with this antique pocket watch for his lifelong efforts to document and preserve history. The Gail Borden movement of this early watch produced by the local watch factory in 1880 is significant for the rarity and an example of watches produced through the fledgling company that became the Elgin watch company about 1884. The award was a surprise given at the Gail Borden Public Library. Gail Borden founded the famous Borden Dairy Company in Elgin. My father has written over 25 books and pamphlets over the years, was a founder of the Elgin Historical Society, a board member for many years for the library, a teacher at Elgin High School, and served on the city council for eight years, four of then as Mayor. Oh yes, he raised a family with four children and leaves a great legacy to all of us.
Rob and I photographed my sister's wedding last weekend in Sauble Beach. We snuck away from the party to capture some sunset pictures. It was absolutely stunning!

The unsolved mysteries of the rain forest are formless and seductive.
They are like unnamed islands hidden in the blank spaces of old maps, like dark shapes
Glimpsed descending the far wall of a reef into the abyss.
They draw us forward and stir strange apprehensions. The unknown and prodigious are
drugs to the scientific imagination, stirring insatiable hunger with a single taste.
In our hearts we hope we will never discover everything.
We pray there will always be a world like this one at whose edge I sat in darkness.
The rain forest in its richness is one of the last repositories on earth of that timeless dream.
