found this place two week ago, this time sun was setting to the right
lighting the sight with filtered light..still given it a bit push
during a snowstorm as the light broke through the cloudy cover.

After arriving in Frostburg around 1 o’clock, the conductor walks past the 1309 towards the cars to make sure everyone is off the train after arriving.

The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest is a protected area high in the White Mountains in Inyo County in eastern California. Protected within the Inyo National Forest, the Bristlecone Pine Forest is home to the oldest trees in the world, bristlecone pines. The bristlecone pine trees grow between 9,800 and 11,000 feet above sea level, in xeric alpine conditions. Some of these living trees exceed 4000 years of age and exhibit spectacular growth forms of twisted and beautifully colored wood.

As the valley fog descends back into the scene, an overhauled ex-N&W caboose in clean red paint stands out on the rear of NS train S11-30. With no run around available on the former VGN Cub Creek Branch, this cab serves as a riding platform for the conductor as trains make the lengthy shove back to the mainline at Cub Creek Junction once loading is complete. With modernity continuing to consume so many iconic aspects of railroading, the survival of a scene like this is something else.
We took a bus trip down for a walk in the city, listened to the music from the carousel and later watched the lights come on all around as the sun set.
