Most of the old pilings were buried in the ice dunes along the beach. Those furthest from shore are still visible on the left
Potato (left) and Marshmallow are watching as I pay attention to the goats. The sheep can be shy at first, but soon warm up and approach for pats.
Danaus chrysippus (Linnaeus, 1758), also known as the plain tiger or African monarch, is a butterfly species that belongs to the milkweed subfamily of the brush-footed butterfly family, Nymphalidae. The butterfly is widespread in Asia and Africa. The plain tiger is believed to be one of the first butterflies to be used in art. A 3500-year-old Egyptian fresco features the oldest illustration of this species.
This butterfly uses some interesting defense mechanisms. For instance, the plain tiger is protected from attacks due to the unpalatable alkaloids ingested during the larval stages. The butterfly, therefore, flies slowly and leisurely, generally close to the ground and in a straight line. This gives a wannabe predator ample time to recognise and avoid attacking it.
I found this species a few weeks ago at Polis, Cyprus. For those interested in the technical details, this is a handheld shot, taken with Nikon D750 and Nikon 105 mm f/2.8 VR, with a 1/200s shutter speed at f/11 and ISO 100, plus SB-900 flash diffused.

Dedicated to all those who lost a childhood friend or a childhood to war. For all those who think war is the answer, they should remember that there is a world that exists in every life that is destroyed by war.
I processed this photo of my son and his friend from our weekend desert trip and it immediately took me back to my days of playing with my best childhood friend in the dirt lots of Afghanistan. Then came the Soviet Union war and my family, after years of living in that war zone had to leave. Unfortunately I lost a childhood during those many years of war and my best childhood friend.
When I was younger, I buried all the emotions, but unfortunately mid life has forced me to reflect. I think that on the subject of war, humanity needs some deep and honest reflecting and thinking.

... make it look like the olive trees are dancing with their arms in the air. No? It's just me, then... :)
And, as you can see, my macro lens perfectly doubles as a walk around, I love it!
Estes troncos fazem parecer que as oliveiras estão a dançar com os braços no ar. Não? Só me parece a mim, então... :)
E dá para ver que a minha objectiva macro serve perfeitamente para uso genérico, adoro-a!

Man those 75I rebuilds are sharp. The snow just quit before the train arrived. Kinda glad. I’m always a fan of the shot at victory. I’m glad I went out and shot this NTWGAL here.
You might have seen these before - they have been well worth the £3 they cost! First picture for the April one-a-day challenge.
For those of you who have never seen me or have not seen me for a while... I am doing well!

For those of you that have seen Patches the squirrel who was suffering from a severe case of mange, he is on the mend. Only one patch of fur missing on his back now. I'm so happy he made it through the winter.
I would like to thank all of you that have taken the time to view and comment on my photos, it is very much appreciated.

From the time I first saw the fox to the time I took this shot was 3hrs, waiting in a smelly ditch, getting eaten alive by insects. But the wait was worth it.
Those indeed were the days! Armed with a Western Region line side permit, it was a case of breezing into Laira , flashing the pass, and the depot was yours to explore! I thought of those lyrics when looking through my finished photographs and stopping at this one. A lot of my photographs show the ‘nicer’, more tourist-facing parts of the city- of course, as an anxious person, those are the areas I feel safest. This shot was taken from the second floor of a somewhat uninviting car park, looking out over the awnings of a small shopping street in Quarry Bay. The smell of the rubbish and grime was palpable and as I looked over the small area, a great melancholy came over me- looking into the small, grubby windows and imagining a life surrounded by all the muck.

I know, I know. Hong Kong, again! I’m not wealthy- I just keep spending all my money on going there. I don’t think they say ‘Fourth Times the Charm’ but this trip was just that - a success. For almost the entire time I kept my mental health issues at bay. It was a good trip. After three disasters - It is really nice to say that.
I have a new description of Osprey -they're all wings and talons. I'm going to revisit this spot this weekend, hoping to get the same show with better light.
This was one of those nightmarish days you only dream about.
It began at 7:30 with that crazy park lady. I walk far away from her now. I park in a different place and walk a quarter-mile from her. But when she sees me, she walks directly at me, no matter where I am and who I'm with. Today, I was picking raspberries. I stopped when she walked toward me. I walked in the woods. I think she followed me, but I went fast, came out on the other side, and walked in the road. She is really ruining my days when I see her, which, fortunately, is once a week.
I came home and worked on cutting glass for awhile, and then I went skating. I also dropped some things off at the post office and attempted to buy stamps, but my card wouldn't scan, and the post office REFUSED to enter the number manually. They said it was against store policy. I asked for the manager. He wouldn't come out. I banged on his door. He wouldn't come out. A supervisor came to talk to me. She couldn't answer any of my questions. All she knew was, "They wouldn't take mines, either."
I went home angry and found a message from my mother that the travel agent wants to make sure my daughter has a passport confirmation. Except that I have tried that every day, and it hasn't worked. It still didn't. I called the passport office once again (I called last week, and a woman said she'd e-mail DC to put a rush on it), and I was told to press one and three and zero, and then the machine told me there were too many callers waiting, and it hung up. Seventeen times. And then when I finally got through, I was on the phone for 59 minutes.
The woman at the passport office told me there's no record of my daughter's application, that I can try to make an appointment for one of the three days this week that it's open before the trip, but she won't guarantee that I get an appointment, and no one's reimbursing us the thousands of dollars for the tickets.
Then I called the post office, and I was told, "This is what I can do for you, ma'am. I will call myself." I asked about the canceled money order, and the woman said, "I just told you what I could do for you. Don't try to tell me what I can do for you. I am doing what I told you I would do, now let me do that without telling me...."
She said she'd call in the morning. Meanwhile, I can pay $5 to put a trace on the money order.
I wrote to my congressman. I sent a third e-mail to the passport office, and it was actually answered today. There's no record of my daughter's passport. The person who wrote told me to call the passport office again.
I went to a self-defense class tonight. I punched the bag very, very hard. It was a very, very bad bag.
(But the instructor's son, holding the bag, was truly a hottie.)
(For 365 Days. This is Day 262. )
I skated for one hour today. It was my only pleasure. I didn't even enjoy the beers.
I can still laugh, as long as there's Engrish.
From time to time on this hike, I'd look around to see just how far I'd walked or how high up I was in comparison to any vehicles that might be below in the Grand Wash with that gorge. It was on this point with an overlook as I was hiking to the Cassidy Arch that I had a view looking to the parking area I'd left about an hour prior. I decided to capture that one because it was just an amazing view but it also had a perspective of the height as well as just how far up I was based on those teeny tiny cars parked off in the distance!
My first summer storm of 2023 had me chasing down into Ohio from Michigan. While we didn't get the weather I had hoped for, we did get an amazing scene to photograph as the front edge of the storm moved over us.

A labor of love with my sister who built Marriage!
We decided to go for a well-known story since... really, how is anyone supposed to develop an entire love story in two MOCs? Have you seen how many preludes W. Navarre has been doing?? XD
What a neat but challenging scale to try out! Credit to my sis for the basic head design and then we both took it in slightly different directions. I built complete figures so those'll are in the extra pictures on my Insta.
And more angles of Toothless of course. Speaking of Toothless... so, I do like building dragons, but I don't like building them in black. XD However, many groans and a trip to a Bricks & Minfigures store later, it came together... It's about twice as big as my last attempt!
