Night 06/07-July-2025

Due to the high frequency of thunderbolts, it was possible to zoom in on a small area of the coastal karst ridge, about 2-3 km in total, and still capture several lightning strikes, clearly visible thanks to the fact that the rain began just behind the coastal relief.

I intentionally underexposed the photo due to the abundant light everywhere (thunderbolts and flashes from cloud/rain obscured strikes) and the very large and long-lasting primary discharges themselves.

These were "dry" lightning strikes, also due to the rising warm and humid currents from the Gulf in that direction, with the karst ridge acting as a small launching pad, continuously forming new cumulonimbus clouds and frequent sparks.

The torrential rain began just 1 km behind these spectacular discharges, with a potential difference of nearly a billion volts.

This is the southeastern flank of the storm cell, therefore the warm part of the system (where the currents ascend), the inflow and therefore the updraft.

This side, together with the advancing front of the storm (arrival of the Downdraft and the rain falls), generally to the East, is the one richest in cloud-to-ground lightning strikes, while the central and cold part of the storm (outflow) presents less numerous lightning strikes and more frequently of the cloud-to-cloud type.

This hiking route visits one of the most beautiful spots in the Benasque Valley: Aigualluts. The route can be done without much effort in four hours, but it is worth taking the time to observe the landscape in detail. It starts and ends in the same place, the car park located in La Besurta.

The path initially runs southwards, along a very obvious path, until reaching the La Renclusa refuge in 50 minutes. We go around it (there is a signpost) to continue southwards towards the La Renclusa pass. The path turns eastwards until reaching the pass, the highest point we will reach today, which we reach in just under an hour and a half from the start.

We continue along the path in an easterly direction, now descending, to the Plan de Aigualluts (two hours and twenty minutes).

Here we turn right to go around the plain on a path equipped with some levers (small bridges) that cross the numerous ravines and streams that reach this plain.

After going around it, we can see on the left the Forao de Aigualluts, a chasm through which the water that comes down from the Aneto glacier seeps to flow into L'Artiga de Lin, in the neighbouring valley of Viella, and therefore flows into the Garonne and not the Ésera.

At the end of the plain that we find below, we can continue straight ahead to return to La Besurta along the old path or ascend a little to the left to find the path that goes up to La Renclusa.

Magnificent lake Genval is one of my two mostly loved Nature Paradises, so close to my home (15’ drive)!! The other one being “my” Château De La Hulpe, of course!

These photos were taken some time ago, and long forgotten in my files. Taken by my Coolpix 900 camera. But today, while I was studying this camera, I discovered them inside it, and therefore that September shooting was revived! And loved it a lot!! Enough, to decide to share them with you!!

Grand Central is another of the iconic location for photographing. Therefore is included in my "Postcards from New York ". This is again an image that wants to depict a city always moving while still there is something "still". I was lucky the violinist in red just decided to start playing there. I find interesting there is an empty space around her, like the music creating a safe space.

🇬🇧 We headed to Innsbruck for the morning. The Arc de Triomphe is the city's first landmark.

A Roman-inspired triumphal arch in the heart of urban life, framed by mountains. The Triumphal Arch is one of Innsbruck's tourist attractions. The baroque structure was built in the 18th century at the request of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. The south side celebrates the wedding, but during the festivities her husband and father of the groom dies suddenly. The north side of the arch therefore displays mourning motifs to commemorate the emperor's sudden death.

We are on a month-long trip through the Indian state of Rajasthan, west of Delhi. Jaisalmer is the westernmost city we visit. The towns here have narrow and dirty alleys, which is why I can't photograph entire house facades. Therefore, I limit myself to details, such as this house entrance. Many houses are beautifully decorated with different subjects, such as the flower.

Last week, the Oberpfalz had a lovely sunny weekend. After a few doubts, I left Sweden on Friday to enjoy 218s on the RE 2 between Hof and Regensburg. Unfortunately, a few trains had been cancelled on Thursday and Friday there, which would be a shame if that continued during the weekend. However, it fit nicely in the agenda and I had some Interrail left, so why not :p

Currently, the 218s of Bw Kempten cannot be used in the Allgäu, as the Intercity trains to Oberstdorf are cancelled until the beginning of March. As a result, many of their locos currently help out between Regensburg and Hof. At the moment, that includes their blue/beige 218 446 and their orient red 218 406, but those locos seemed inactive upon departure. However, already on Friday afternoon, the 218 446 joined on the RE 2. On Saturday, we could therefore see the loco in Nabburg with RE 4861 from Hof to München Hbf, together with many other photographers.

Mt. Dalsnibba at about 21 km (13 mi) from Geiranger, Norway, offers a good view when the weather permits and is therefore a popular tourist destination. Dalsnibba is often covered by snow even in the summer.

In Summer these birds diet consists of insects however in winter their diet changes to seeds of common reeds therefore to accommodate their winter diet the birds need to eat grit to help digest their food!

The RSPB Leighton Moss nature reserve in Lancashire Uk give these birds a helping hand by putting out grit trays to help supplement their natural diet.

The male here has been ringed and when I contacted one of the ringers he informed me that the bird was ringed on the reserve as recently as November 2024

The entrance to Selfoss waterfall wasn’t permitted beyond a nominal roped barricade. This picture was therefore taken from afar but does show size of the falls and the surrounding environs.

Hello Dear Friends, hope you had a great week end! I am back from a short trip to Bangkok, therefore I've been offline for a few days. Will soon catch up with your photostreams!

Here's my first shot from this trip. A classic, probably shot to death! Nevertheless, here is my own version. Taken from the 83th floor of the Baiyoke Tower II hotel.

More long exposure shots in my Night Photography Set.

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:

Its loveliness increases; it will never

Pass into nothingness; but still will keep

A bower quiet for us, and a sleep

Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.

Therefore, on every morrow, are we wreathing

A flowery band to bind us to the earth,

Spite of despondence, of the inhuman dearth

Of noble natures, of the gloomy days,…

The same peony as yesterday's upload - still standing despite the windy conditions.

The golden plover is already extinct in Germany, Poland, Belgium and Danmark. It can therefore only be found here when it passes through the coasts and islands on its way to its winter quarters. Its name goes back to the Romans, who believed that these birds would gather in flocks when it was going to rain. It sounds to me like the Romans encountered this bird in what is today Great Britain. 😋

Bohemian Waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus)

Supposedly the original "Bohemians" were travelers or refuges from central Europe. This species is therefore true to it's name and was in fact well named.

During the winter and non breeding seasons they travel in large groups in search of fruit.

Here are some interesting Waxwing facts from the "Cool Science Blog" page located in the link below, if you have an interest...

blog.nature.org/science/2017/02/27/waxwings-really-have-w...

"Waxwings really have wax wing tips. The bright red, visible on the wing feathers of some waxwings, is actually waxy red secretions. The red wax tips are appendages on the bird’s secondary feathers. They’re colored by astaxanthin, a carotenoid pigment.

While it was originally thought that the red tips functioned to protect the feathers from wear and tear, there is little to no evidence for this hypothesis.

Rather, the red secondary tips appear to be status signals that function in mate selection.

Interestingly, the red appendages of both Waxwing species increase in number and size with a bird’s age: individuals with zero to five waxy tips are thought to be more immature birds, while those with greater than nine are thought to be older.

Individuals within these two categories tend to associate as mates. Pairs of older birds (those with greater than nine waxy tips) nest earlier and raise more young than do immature birds, suggesting that this plumage characteristic is an important signal in mate choice and social organization.

Most of this information comes from a wonderfully informative article..... By Matt Miller I've enclosed the link below and it's a wonderful read for anyone who has interest in both Cedar and Bohemian Waxwings."

(Wikipedia)

The horses are standing at a fence, hence the cramped cut on the right edge of the picture ;-)

The Icelandic horse, also known as the Icelandic horse or Icelandic pony, is a versatile and robust breed of horse or small horse that comes from Iceland and can also be ridden by adults thanks to its strong physique. Icelandic horses are gaited horses because they not only have the basic gaits walk, trot and canter, but also the genetically fixed gait tölt. Many of them also have the Gait Pass. Only purebred animals without cross-breeding, whose ancestry can be traced back to Iceland without any gaps, are recognized as “Icelandic horses”. Horses are banned in Iceland to prevent disease. Therefore, horses born in Iceland, once leaving the island, cannot be re-entered Iceland. (Wikipedia)

Which, you must choose between What is to Be or Not to Be?

In the book of Philosophy of Life “I think; therefore, I am”... But who you are realy and where are you going is another question that needs to be Answered.

So well, My Son,

Do you wish to know the full meaning of life?

It's so simple to see in the way of;

Seasons come, seasons go.

Seasons change, and seasons flow.

Bud to leaf. Seed to a tree. Green to brown.

From the spring, through the summer, autumn, winter.

Like the world that keeps turning round and round,

we all go on and on.

So, what have we become like?

Well My Son, life is just like a beanstalk, isn't it?

Just a crazy notion and a bit of creative fun from a part of a crystallised stained glass window, from Worcester Cathedral on my resist visit to Worcester. Which caught my attention and I loved the way of the backlight shined from outside on this part of the widow, which was casting some nice light and colours around it.

Many thanks for your cool comments and compliments from you here, my good flickr friends !!!

Maryland Midland's turn job to the CSX interchange at Highfield starts over the remote control switch at Keymar. The signal is a switch point indicator and does not convey block authority. Therefore it displays green except when the switch is reversed. The connecting track connects the former Pennsylvania RR Frederick Secondary that MMID operates to serve a few customers. Namely a limestone pit at Woodsboro. The remote switch alleviates the need for heavy loaded unit trains of rock to hand throw this switch.

After a few hours photographing the birds in Yarner on Sunday I took my first trip out to Saddle Tor, and what a great subject/place it is, as the sun set the temperature dropped dramatically and unfortunately there was a lot of mist/haze that never burnt off during the day, this diffused/muted the sunset, and with hardly a cloud in the sky it wasn't quite what I was hoping for, I therefore feel a return visit is on the cards very soon! :)

Staldzene – an old fishing village with some homesteads surviving from the 19th century, lies to the North of Ventspils on the way to the Kolka point. Here fishermen can still be seen going out to sea, and on calm evenings the scent of dry-cured Baltic plaice wafts through the air.

Staldzene is popular with both townsfolk and tourists alike for its walking paths, swimming beach and its dramatic steep coastline. Staldzene steep coast is the highest in Latvia.

It is a typical abrasive-type coastline 4 to 8 m high, where deposits of various stages of the Baltic Sea development are exposed for approximately 400 m.

As a result of the erosion of the sea, the steep coast is washed away. Based on marine coastline monitoring data, the annual deviation of the coast is estimated at 1 m, because of which the area of the natural monument is reduced and is currently about 6 ha. Therefore, this outcrop has a limited lifetime, reports the information source of the Specially protected nature territory of Ventspils City. Its height has also decreased in the last decade. In the 70s of the last century, the height of the steep coast reached 12 m. Washing away of the steep coast is determined by the combination of several factors, including specific meteorological conditions – wind speed and direction, air temperature, sea level height, currents, waves, ice formation, etc. The Ventspils Port Piers and the deep fairway channel still have a significant impact, which completely stops the natural movement of sediments past the port to the north.

Staldzene steep coastline contains protected habitats of European and Latvian importance: wooded seaside dunes, boreal forests, calcareous sand meadows and gray dunes covered with herbaceous plants. There are also 8 specially protected plant species in the territory of the nature monument. Some plants are found only in Ventspils and Pape area in Latvia.

At El Queremal, Valle de Cauca, Colombia.

The Toucan Barbet (Semnornis ramphastinus) is native to the humid forests of the Pacific Andean slopes of northwest Ecuador to southwest Colombia, at altitudes of 1,200-2,400 m (4,000-7,900 ft). This image was taken at 1270 meters or 4167 feet above sea level. The Toucan Barbet is a medium-sized bird, 19 to 21 cm (7.5-8.3 in) long,

Barbets belong to the order Piciformes and are therefore closely related to woodpeckers and toucans,

Only during the longest days of the year the sun wanders far enough north to enable pictures from the pedestrian bridge near Schönhauser Allee.

The time slot where the light is good and the shadows are not disturbing is pretty tight.

I was therefore very lucky to digitise loco 193 368 (Strong Cargo) with its container/ tanktainer train from Oderbrücke (Frankfurt / Oder) in that short available time frame!

Thank you everyone.

I had, therefore, entered the Bosom of the Father, which appeared to the eyes of my soul (but it was as if I saw it with my physical eyes) as an abyss that was immense, cosmic. And it was all gold and flames above, below, to the right and to the left…

… As in the Letter to the Ephesians, the experience of Abbà by Chiara does not stop at the level of a private and intimate relationship between child and Father but spills over into the universal Fatherhood of God. It is in this sense that the images of the “abyss that was cosmic” and the sun that could be seen “above, below, about,” where each thing “is seen in the Father,” should be understood.

There are a few well known locations here in south coast NSW that always get mentioned by visitors. And I'd say somewhere near the top of the list of those favourite spots would have to be Honeymoon Bay. This small crescent shaped inlet is located on the northern side of Jervis Bay. You can only visit Honeymoon at weekends and during NSW holidays, because it's located within the Australian Navy's Beecroft Weapons Range which is in use during the week and therefore not very conducive to relaxation. Honeymoon's just about the perfect beginners spot for snorkelling and the ancient 'dad' art of floating-on-your-back-doing-bugger-all-and-loving-it. There are extensive campgrounds behind the beach where you can stay, but it's so popular that it's first-come/first-served at weekends and you can only stay there in the long summer holidays by entering a lottery which itself is only open between July and August. So it's a genuine privilege if you are lucky enough to get yourself a pitch here, particularly in the summer. Anyway, this is what it looks like from the air and it's pretty obvious what draws people here, isn't it?

"I had a farm in Africa at the foot of the Ngong Hills"

- Karen Blixen "Out of Africa"

"Out of Africa" is a memoir by the Danish author Karen Blixen. The book, first published in 1937, recounts events of the seventeen years when Blixen made her home in Kenya, then called British East Africa.

_____________________________________

Seeing Karen Blixen’s Home in Kenya brought back memories of the 1985 Academy Award winning Film “Out of Africa” Starring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford.

_____________________________________

Baroness Karen Von Blixen (17 April 1885 – 7 September 1962) was a Danish author who wrote in Danish and English.

Blixen was considered several times for the Nobel Prize in Literature, but it wasn't awarded because judges were reportedly concerned about showing favoritism to Scandinavian writers, according to Danish reports.

While still young, Karen spent many of her holidays with her paternal cousin's family in the south of Sweden. There she fell in love with the dashing equestrian Baron Hans Blixen, but he did not reciprocate. She therefore decided to accept the favors of his twin brother, Baron Bror Blixen, and they announced their engagement on 23 December 1912.

Given the difficulties both were experiencing in settling in Denmark, the family suggested they should move abroad. Their common uncle, Aage Westenholz, suggested they should go to Kenya to start a coffee farm. He and his sister Ingeborg Dinesen invested 150,000 Danish crowns in the venture. Early in 1913, Bror left for Kenya. He was followed by Karen in December.

Soon after Karen arrived in Kenya, which at the time was part of British East Africa, she and Bror Blixen were married in Mombasa on 14 January 1914. After her marriage, she became known as Baroness Blixen, and she used the title until her then ex-husband remarried in 1929.

Following their separation and divorce, she had a long affair with the safari hunter, Denys Finch Hatton, son of a titled English family. In 1931, after losing the coffee farm in the Great Depression, Karen Blixen returned to Denmark and embarked on the writing career that lasted until her death in 1962.

It is the legacy of Ivan Crnojevic, who was the ruler of the state of Zeta at the end of XV century. In the last 500 years this monastery was the seat of all Montenegrin bishops. Since its foundation it has been connected with bishops – episcopes, and metropolitans, and therefore it is considered to be the greatest center of Montenegrin education and culture during the past centuries.

Old monastery was built by Ivan Crnojevic in 1484 at the locality which is called “Cipur” (from the Greek kipurion which means a wonderful garden), and the monastery was ruined in 1692 during one of the breeches of Sulejman pasha Busatlija on Cetinje, so about its original appearance there are two testimonies: Engraving from Cetinje Oktoih, and a plan of a Venetian engineer Barbieri.

Montenegrin metropolitan Danilo Petovic renewed the monastery at the beginning of XIII century. Instead of renewal of the old monastery, a new one was built in the place of the Castle of Ivan Crnojevic, but the trustee inscription, which is located above the entrance doors of the church, and the herald of Crnojevic family, which is built into the outer side of the altar apsidal have been passed onto. After the reconstruction the monastery complex took up the size of 1400 square meters. Trenches filled up with water and a defensive wall with 62 gun holes surrounded it. Inside the walls there were night chambers, a smaller church of Sveti Petar (St. Peter), and a big basilica of Sveta Djevica (Saint Virgin). Several times additionally built and adapted the monastery acquired the present look in the period between 1925 and 1927. The nucleus of the monastery is the church of Rodjenja Bogorodice (Birth of the Virgin). Entire relics of Sveti Petar Cetinjski (St. Peter from Cetinje), by whom the monastery got the name, have been places inside it.

The hand of Sveti Jovan Krstitelj (Saint Jovan the Baptizer), relics of Sveti Petar Cetinjski. Segment of Honorable Cross, as well as a part of the relics of Teodor Stratilan are preserved in the monastery with which the monastery itself is one of the richest treasuries of the Christian world. Above the monastery you can see a skit of Sveti Jovan Krstitelj that was built in 1997. The construction of the Church of Sveti Jovan Krstitelj in that place is in plan and it will be built in the honor of saint’s right hand that is kept in the monastery.

First primary and secondary school in Montenegro were formed in the Monastery. Petar II Petrovic Njegos (1813 – 1851), the most famous Montenegrin ruler and poet handled a print shop as well as a workshop for producing zinc cannon balls. Cetinje monastery served also as a mausoleum to dynasty Petrovic, and prince Danilo Petrovic, his wife Darinka, his daughter Olga, as well as the great duke Mirko Petrovic, bishop Sava Petrovic and many other have been buried in it.

----------------------------- JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST - ALONE!

12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)

16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)

1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)

7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:1-13)

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!

So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Thank you everyone.

Whilst going out to take photos in remote areas is exercise and is unlikely to be high risk for virus transmission, the government guidelines do ask us to minimise the time spent outdoors. For the different types of photography that interest myself I am unlikely to capture the images I want in an hour or so, and so therefore might as well not bother.... not to mention all the kit I need to lug about - I hardly look like I'm purely taking exercise.... then there is the 'unnecessary' car journey I would need to make.... oh and the looks and comments I would get from people who might live more 'locally' than myself.... even if I travelled within my own 'local council' borough. Perhaps the government can have two different definitions of the word 'local'.

Anyway, for all these reasons, photography is off the cards for myself at the moment. So the bonus is looking through the archives.

For now, that's where my images are coming from.

Keeping myself busy though building a new website, putting a couple of books together and of course elite sport is continuing for the time being so my other 'day' job is taking a good slice of my time too.

Many thanks for taking the time to view, fave and/or comment on some of my images.

We have more and more potholes everywhere these days, but it looks like they do get filled occasionally!
