[7DOS] - Favorite color - Texture Tuesday

for 7DoS: I'm limited to my iPhone and wifi for shots while I'm away, so I wasn't able to tidy the background on this shot

Salad with balsamic glaze and egg on top!

These might have made a better picture when they contained small hexagonal crackers but ... this is all that was left when I thought to grab the camera.

Sparks from a fire made holes in my cotton jacket and I appliqued these heart patches on using a heart embroidery stitch on the sewing machine.

These extraordinary roses are overflowing with life energy, with qi! The air around them sizzles! Notice that the bud on the left is OUTSIDE the fence!

This statue is utterly fascinating. It depicts three of Austin's favorite sons in a deep discussion...with much friendly arguing thrown in I bet.

EDIT: Seemed appropriate for "Texture Tuesday"

This bridge across Lock 24 could not have been here when the canal was operating; the boats would have bumped into it and it would have blocked the way for the tow ropes. Now that this part of the C&O Canal is dry the bridge provides convenient access to the tow path for walkers and bikers.

This wonderful statue, by John Clinch, stands within Buchanan Street Bus Station in Glasgow. It is called the "Winchers Stance" and the couple could be saying cheerio!!

If you are not Scottish "Winchers" would be a couple who are going out with each other.

Day 12 - Brush Lovin from Kim Klassen's Beyond Layers. As part of the course she provided a set of brushes of text. I also did a white on white as part of Texture Tuesdays. I did not write down the textures used...but they were Kim's.

She might cringe with this one.

This week's theme for Kim Klassen's TextureTuesday is 'Red.' I was trying out my new 35mm prime when I shot this. I used Cinnamon, Stained Linen and Aurora textures.

This bridge carries pedestrians and bicyclists over a very busy road. The hoops that hold the mesh screen covering the bridge make an interesting repeating pattern.

My first attempt at texturing!

Someone suggested a tighter crop, but I kind of like the green leaves balancing the roses. Opinions?

The location takes its name from sugar refining which began on site in 1752. From 1868 it became home to the local Holyrood brewing industry which continued on site to the end of the 20th Century.

It has recently been developed as student accomodation.

The City of Edinburgh Council Planning Report stated: "The design of the site shows an excellent understanding of the historical development of the area and the buildings on the site. This has allowed the architects to create a scheme which is both sympathetic and dynamic, creating high quality urban design and architecture’

The design proposals retain a number of Listed buildings within the heart of the site which are made visible from a new Courtyard and Close, unlocking key routes and unseen vistas."

This is the last Texture Tuesday of 2011. I can't believe the year is almost over. Where has the time gone? For this final Texture Tuesday the theme was "celebrate." I used Kim's Canvas Back Magic texture. I love the magic textures.

Celebrate life . . . Celebrate love . . . Celebrate togetherness . . . Celebrate!

due to a broken computer, then swapped computer, then no internet access, texture tuesday is happening late. i did take and process this shot on tuesday though. but the internet was down in the apartment i was in.

this is a detail of a...painting..that my best friend and i did when we first met. it's basically just a nasty collage of paint, thumbtacks, pins, magazine cutouts, wood glue, caulk, bubble wrap, fishtank gravel, and of course an excess amount of glitter, over the years, the metal parts of the painting have rusted. making it all the more better.

The cherry tree is blooming. I used KK's Heart Happy texture on two layers (soft light and multiply) as well as a gradient map and solid color fill.

I originally posted this on my blog for Texture Tuesday, but after reading today's B2 class materials, wanted to post this here. Following the tutorial Kim posted a few days ago on using the gradient with linear light, I used that here. (Can't wait to experiment with radial gradient.) I used a very light , almost white gradient and erased it over the flower buds. This helped tone the blurred background and lightened up the white fluffy seeded bloom. There are a few places where it could be better (just above the flower on the left) but overall I'm pleased with it. I used Sybil to make the frame for this picture. I applied it once at Normal and copied it, changed 2nd layer to Color Burn. I loved how this looked (see what Kim did in the class tutorial) but it wasn't quite right for the frame, so I copied it again and changed it to Multiply. Had I done this after Kim's tutorial, I would have tried the Levels adjustment instead. I think that would be a better way to control how much more color depth is added. I think that the lower left corner would not have been so dark if I had done it that way.

I also used Kim's texture Violet with blending modes of Color Burn and Screen over the photograph before applying the frame.
