I chose this for the colors and detail in the building and fence. Zoom in and enjoy. Using just the LCD screen to try focusing on the pool or fence using the AF, I just don't know which it latched onto, but I'm thinking the fence. Still, it's all pretty sharp, and this is only F/5.6!

Mamiya/Sekor 55mm f/1.4 M42 lens

Edited the levels just for brightness adjustment.
A little back story... I got this lens from an old Mamiya camera that I found in a thrift shop. The end of the barrel is dented and it won't take a filter. The aperture was slow due to oil in the blade mechanism. After some time, I finally fully disassembled the lens and brought it back to it's former glory. Now the blades are snappy, and it's still tack-sharp after pulling it apart. Unfortunately, the camera it came off is still a mess.
Anywho... Just got my M42 to K mount adapter in the mail, and this lens is really good. I like the color rendition here. I did some tests at each aperture, also, and it performs well from f/2 all the way up to f/16. At f/1.4, it struggles a little, but is respectable at such a large aperture.
Next, I need to use this bad boy with some film. Great lens! Maybe I'll post my aperture tests when I get them together.
Testing the camera. Zoom in on all of the landscape. The wind was blowing pretty hard. You can see the palm leaves twisted due to this. (Right side past big tree.) I'm surprised anything is sharp in this photo due to it being handheld and windy. I should have used shutter priority instead of aperture priority mode. Then it would be tack sharp. My mistake, not the camera's.

I've just taken the plunge and part exchanged the kit lens and the 50mm for the 35mm f/1.8 AF-S one.This is from one of the first pictures I've taken this afternoon. It's been cropped to just concentrate on the detail, and the contrast slightly increased in the standard Windows programme.
Although it was possible to get a similar result with the 50mm, I found the manual focusing on the D5000 a bit of a challenge with the cat. Or the boyfriend. Life is too short for that, and I'd rather concentrate on getting the rest of the photo right. Besides, there's always the manual override...

Back in the era of film camera you'd take a picture like this and might not be sure if you're timing was good enought to get that Test Track car zoomed by, obviously mine was not, Peter really enjoyed this attraction.
