British-Nigerian artist Sokari Douglas Camp is one of the leading sculptors working in Britain today.

This sculpture is inspired by an abolitionist print of the same title by William Blake, which is reminiscent of depictions of "The Three Graces." Here instead of the daughters of Zeus who personified grace, beauty and charm, these allegorical figures represent the three continents embracing.

Interesting, perhaps progressive, changes between the days of William Blake and 2015.

I made this about a week ago but never photographed it.

Oh and I cropped this using Piknik, is it back now?

If you fave I would greatly appreciate a legitimate comment. If you don't like it then don't fave and maybe give me some pointers.

Also if you give a good comment I wouldn't mind if you were to hit that fave button :)

In a few weeks time I'll be displaying models at the Great Western Brick Show in the UK, including my two Transformers. Both can stand up on their own, but children pulling a tablecloth or knocking the table will probably cause them to fall down, so I decided to build them supports.

Can't help the feeling like my orchard is on life support. It is sad to think that once naturally productive soil has been obliterated by past and current cultural practices.

I will say that since its installation the soil is looking better and the trees are responding well.

Here's something from the way back machine!

I've been thinking about Comus a bit since ending up there a few days ago looking for trains on UP's Spine Line. I remembered there was an effort to build an ethanol plant near the junction there - Progressive Rail pushed hard for it, and it could have generated traffic for UP, IC&E, or CP, all of whom would have had access there. Through pure dumb luck, I happened to be out on December 29, 2006 - must have been home from college on winter break - and caught PGR dropping this rolling billboard on a siding right next to Highway 3 between Malt-O-Meal and Kwik Trip.

I need to go back and do some digging on what exactly killed the project near Comus, though from reading some of my captions from that time, it looks like it was local opposition (especially with respect to water consumption) and the global economy / gas prices crashing soon thereafter - I even see a mention of other ethanol plants that were under construction at the time getting shut down... so, perhaps PGR dodged a bullet in the end. They (Progressive Rail) threatened to develop a commercial site that couldn't be slowed by regulatory action in lieu of ethanol, should the plans be halted, but I imagine the economy at the time prevented that from happening... along with their large commercial development in Randolph.

In any event, enjoy this shot from a dozen years ago, when MN&S-esque SD39 and SW1500's roamed the rails in Northfield as God intended.

I am a very serious person...

...99.9% of the time.

I despise chickens and all chicken-related things (books, humor, art, etc.). Even the sight or mention of a chicken makes me groan inside. Then why in the world would I choose to build this?

Occasionally, when my mind is tired, not knowing what to think or even why to think, I fall into absurdity. In short, I cave. My seriousness leaves, and in its place stands incoherent gibberish. I embrace what I don't like, even if that means chickens.

So in a way, this creation represents the utter nonsense that can spout forth from a brain that really is not thinking clearly.

Speaking of that, Chicken Little is a story about some foolish young fowl who has a piece of something fall on its head (it may be an acorn, or a leaf, or a raindrop; who knows?). It goes berserk and insists that "The sky is falling!!". Thenceforth Chicken Little makes a huge fuss over it and gathers fellow animals to go warn the ruler of the area. The group meets a sly fox (what other kind of fox would there be?), who convinces the gullible animals that the way to the ruler goes right through the fox's lair. They enter the lair and the fox eats them all. (Or, if you like the other versions better, they escape and warn the ruler, but still turn out to be incorrect about the sky.)

So I think that that image of hysteria is what I've captured in this obnoxious little build. Whenever I feel like blurting out whatever my immediate reaction to my circumstances is, this chicken can remind me to always think before I speak, lest I believe the world will end and thereby fulfill my own prophecy through my own ignorance.

Don't worry, I promise that the next creations I submit will be serious in nature. This one is not a new precedent for me.

This chicken is a bauble-head; it has a technic axle as its neck that would need to be flexible if this were to become a set so that the head could wobble. The wings and tail can flap.

And yes, that is a canoe.

An Unmanned Support Vehicle to accompany my Hibernia-SHIPtember build. A liquid-aerosol dispersal system is mounted off the rear to seed an area with Durt-Locker (TM). Durt-Locker (TM) is a common terrestrial binding agent used to prevent loose earth from shifting or collapsing under heavy loads and shears. Believe me, this will be neccesary...

Not-so-loosely based on this wonderful concept art. I wanted to try a new color though but it turns out that Coral is quite limited. Even so, I am very happy with the shaping and I even managed to create a compact 4-wheel steering system controlled by the knob on top. The steering, and rest of the model, can be seen here.
