Let Hair Down, a.k.a. Kanami Kusajima, one of the most amazing artists you will ever see in Washington Square Park, where I once called home and where I got my start learning photography many, many years ago. Honestly, she is one of the most fun and engaging performers I've seen in a long time. Her dedication to her craft and the joy she exudes during her seemingly daily dance performances in all extremes of weather (she recently performed in a snow storm!) and performing and advocacy in the face of stern opposition is a role model for all artists.

I have since moved away from my city, but visit as often as possible and I noticed that somethings have changed in the park over the years. It feels safer and cleaner! That's a plus, but it appears to have come at the price of the park losing a lot of the vibrancy and character it was once known for and the type of park I remember from the early 2000s. It's relatively more sterile, if you will. On the relatively warm, late December day that this set of photos was taken, it was kind of hard to find many artists, buskers, and street performers.

I mentioned "stern opposition" because if you take the time to follow Let Hair Down's socials and go down the research rabbit hole it will lead you, her experiences in NYC confirms that something has changed in, not only my beloved Washington Square Park over the course of the last 15-20 or so years, but cities everywhere: artists, buskers, and street performers being pushed out for many reasons, intentional or unintentional, such as through local ordinances, being priced out, etc. It's a problem everywhere, but Washington Square Park is one of the most visible and iconic cultural landmarks where this is happening. It cannot afford to lose its artists. So no matter if it's New York City, San Francisco, or wherever you live, please support your local artists!

These are some of the supporting builds from the Exo-Suit workshop I built.

I designed this in LDD then ordered the parts and built a physical version. I built the rolling hing mechanism from scratch and it works beautifully. It's nice and compact, slightly futuristic and the hing has enough tension that it won't drop under it's own weight. I think I may like it better than the my Exo-suit itself!

I am a pretender hunkered down in a maelstrom behind a facade of technical gear. Outside: A shrieking chorale of wild bristlecones on a Serengeti of stone. A sonic and percussive primordial wind, the lion does not sleep.

The bristlecone voices are of epic confidence and endurance. Taunting chorus after chorus of millennial defiance; of standing their ground. Of having withstood the worst that any two or three or more millennia had to offer.

Boughs barely rippling; figurative fuzz on a tennis ball. Smaller trees soulful, shrill. Larger trees rumbling like raging water pouring over a precipice. Theirs is the most elemental of sounds; that of the flowing ethereal deformed by immutable matter.

There is nothing extraneous about the shape of an ancient bristlecone. Every pliant, probing, shapeshifting growth tip has been aerodynamically pruned and tuned through howling millennia to match the precise location and microclimate of each tree. Branches do not break off. Finding a branch lying on the ground after even the fiercest of storms would be akin to finding the wingtip of a Concorde.

Inside, swaddled in bird feathers, I watch an Oort cloud of sliding snowflakes accumulate on the embossed logo of the tent’s leeward panel. The skittering flakes build and shift, forming faces and figures and mountains that slide away only to form again and again. Nature speaks (if at all) in relentless metaphor.

Hours later: Ice crystal stars and a serene slumbering face immersed in cumulus above the logo peaks as the wind begins to fade with oncoming night...And I remember again why I pretend.

Stuck between two forces, trying to support the weight from both of them so one does not clash to the other to prevent destruction.

I am almost always inspired by a certain location and when I saw this huge rock/boulder on to the side of the wall/ rock formations I thought of this concept and went into the small space between the rocks.

Hattingen Henrichshütte, Schaugiesserei.

Formen, Schmelzen, Gießen, Putzen - seit September 1997 sind die zentralen Arbeitsschritte des Gießens im LWL-Museum Henrichshütte Hattingen erfahrbar. Im Hattinger Museum des Landschftsverbandes Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) vermittelt die Schaugießerei den Museumsgästen das Prinzip des Formens und die Faszination des Gießens. In einem Elektroschmelzofen wird mit Aluminium und in einem Koksofen mit Bronze und Eisen experimentiert. In Handarbeit entstehen Modelle aus Holz und Gussformen aus Sand. "Auf der Hütte" wird wieder gegossen, wenn auch nicht mehr in Tonnen, sondern nur noch in Kilogramm. Besuche die Schaubetriebe des Fördervereins Industriemuseum Henrichshütte e.V. auf dem Gelände des LWL- Museums Henrichshütte in Hattingen.

Forming, melting, casting, cleaning - since September 1997, the central work steps of casting can be experienced in the LWL Museum Henrichshütte Hattingen. In the Hattinger Museum of the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Association (LWL), the show foundry teaches museum guests the principle of molding and the fascination of casting. Experiments are carried out with aluminum in an electric melting furnace and with bronze and iron in a coke oven. Models made of wood and molds made of sand are created by hand. “At the hut” is being poured again, although no longer in tons, but only in kilograms. Visit the exhibition operations of the Industriemuseum Henrichshütte e.V. support association on the grounds of the LWL Museum Henrichshütte in Hattingen.

Leaving for Franks's funeral, and trying to manage a smile…

It felt weird coming into town, staying next door to the site that I support, seeing all my work peeps… and yet no work was done outside of collaborating on how the work could possibly get done that Frank had been doing. It was a difficult funeral as expected, but it was great to see all of my work family- my mother even came along for the ride to see family in the area where she grew up.

Hoping that life can get back to some normalcy soon. I expect to be very busy, but at least we can all start moving on. Thanks for your support!

The Dutch-colonial buildings along Handelskade are some of the most photographed buildings in the Caribbean. And once you've been there to see them, you understand why. With their gables to the street and the bright colors, they are a photographer's dream. Plus, because they face St. Anna Bay, the view toward them is unobstructed.

The floating Queen Emma Bridge crossing the bay can be seen. It was built in 1888 and was recently restored.

The bridge connects the Punda and Otrobanda quarters of the city.

The pontoon bridge is supported by 16 pontoon boats. The bridge is hinged and opens regularly to allow passage of oceangoing vessels. When opening, the bridge swings to the Otrobanda side.

Locally, the bridge is known as 'Swinging Old Lady'.
