The EBRD manages the Ignalina International Decommissioning Support Fund (IIDSF) which supports the development and implementation of key decommissioning and energy sector projects in Lithuania. To assist Lithuania with the decommissioning process, the European Commission together with 14 European governments set up the Ignalina International Decommissioning Support Fund (IIDSF) at the EBRD in 2001.

Lithuania had one nuclear power plant with two units at Ignalina. Both units were Soviet-designed RBMK 1500 reactors.

As part of the EU accession process, Lithuania agreed to the early closure of its reactors: Ignalina unit 1 was shut down at the end of 2004 and unit 2 at the end of 2009.

Dismantling works began in 2010 including mechanical and thermal cutting to reduce secondary waste, to optimise radiation protection.

To date 20% of the total equipment has been dismantled by INPP’s retained personnel. The plant’s preexisting personnel were retained to help in the decommissioning works.

17,000 RBMK spent nuclear fuel rods will be removed from the old Units, secured, and transported 2 kilometers to the newly built Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility.

Construction works at the interim spent fuel storage facility and the solid radioactive waste management facility are complete. The spent fuel storage facility started operating in October 2016 and the radioactive waste facility is expected to be operational in 2017.

Safe storage of spent fuel and the ability to safely handle and store radioactive waste produced during dismantling works, are key prerequisites for future decommissioning activities.

Rebuilding of Lithuania’s Energy Sector

The IIDSF has financed energy sector development projects which are an integral part of the closure of the Ignalina plant.

The control room for Lithuania’s energy sector manages the export of electricity supply to neighboring European countries.

With the decommissioning of Ignalina, Lithuania went from being a net exporter to a net importer of energy. IIDSF helped fund upgrades to plants such as the Elektrenai Power Plant to help fill the supply deficit.

194th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion conducts

convoy live-fire at Story Range, Republic of Korea.

PANMUNJOM - With weapons at the ready, members of 194th Combat

Sustainment Support Battalion set out at dawn to conduct convoy

live-fire training here, March 25.

The fast-paced exercise exposed Soldiers to many of the real-world

perils found on today's asymmetric battlefield, culminating in a series

of drills designed to hone their skills in reacting to road-side bombs

and enemy small-arms fire.

"These Soldiers have been training for the past six months to prepare

for this day and their hard work is evident in the outstanding

performance I've seen throughout the battalion," said Command Sgt. Maj.

Nichelle S. Fails.

At times gritty and intense, the Soldiers worked in teams to zero in on

enemy targets with their rifles and machine guns.

"This scenario is interesting and very realistic," said Pvt. Jiwoo Kim,

a KATUSA assigned to the battalion.

Pvt. Dylan Florres, a battalion mechanic and one of the day's enemy

combatant role-players, sees the training as realistic and a good way to

build unit cohesion. "What we are doing is basically helping Soldiers

learn how to train safely and work as a team," he said.

"Everybody is highly motivated and ready to fight," said Chief Warrant

Officer 4 Joseph Williams, HHC, 194th Combat Support Sustainment

Battalion, safety officer. "Taking care of our Soldiers is very

important, we don't want any injuries. That's why we do risk assessments

and go over all of the details to make this a very safe, yet realistic,

training environment."

Master Sgt. Kenneth Ashley, the day's pyrotechnics NCO, described the

training as important in building teamwork within the battalion. "Here

in Korea and in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, we need to make sure

our Soldiers know how to react under fire and to ensure they are

prepared for anything the enemy throws at them."

This is a set of photographs from the start, 8.5KM mark, and finish area of both of the races in the 10th annual Longwood Village 10KM and 5KM Road Races and Fun Runs which were held in Longwood Village, Longwood, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 20th October 2019 at 11:00. The races are held annually to support the development of the local GAA club while also supporting local charities. The race has support from Trim AC which sees the race have full AAI premit status. These races have grown steadily over the years and this year again almost 600 participants took part in the two races. This is an impressive statistic given that a very large number of local runners will be preparing for the Dublin City marathon 7 days from now. The number of entrants in both races have grown steadily over the years. Both races provide marathon runners and all other runners, joggers and walkers with an ideal opportunity to race on a very fair course in a beautiful rural setting. Barry Clarke of Longwood GAA and Trim AC and his very large group of volunteers deserve the highest of praise for the very high standard of organisation immediately apparent to anyone taking part in the race. Overall the whole day was a great success with the hard work put in by the organising committee ensuring that participants enjoyed their race experience. Both routes were accurately measured, kilometer points clearly marked, junctions well stewarded, and electronic timing provided. The event provided many local runners, joggers, fun runners and walkers with a local event to support whilst at the same time providing runners preparing for events such as the Dublin marathon with an opportunity to race a short, fast, distance in the lead up to marathon day. The GAA club provided excellent stewarding and traffic management all around the course. The race had a professional feel to it and as before it gets better year on year given the very positive feedback from many of the participants each year. The weather was reasonably good for racing with bright, crisp, sunny Sunday morning with high temperatures for this time of year of around 11 or 12c.

We have an extensive set of photographs from all of the races today in the following Flickr Album: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/albums/72157702660163805

Longwood is a small village in South East Co. Meath and is close to the town of Enfield with access to the M4 Motorway.

5KM Course: The 5KM started in Longwood village. Runners then took a left turn in the Village down St. Oliver's Road. This straight section of road brings runners to a left turn onto a very well maintained boreen road for less than one kilometer. The race then emerges and joins with the 10KM at Stoneyford where the runners take a left and then another left before arriving back at the finish line in Longwood GAA club. Overall this is a very fast and flat 5KM with no hills to speak of.

10KM Course: The 10KM event begins in Longwood Village outside Dargan's Pub and proceeds westward out of the village. There are some interesting points along this part of the course. At the 2KM point the runners will run under the double bridges - an aquaduct for the Royal Canal and a bridge carrying the Dublin Sligo Railway line. The race then enters county Kildare just before the 3km and after taking a right turn at the four-cross roads known locally as Lally's Cross it returns to County Meath on top of the River Boyne Bridge (Ashfield Bridge) which forms the county boundary. The race follows a straight road for the next 2KM until runners encounter Blackshade bridge which is the toughest climb on the route. As a point of interest Blackshade bridge brings runners back over the Royal Canal and the Railway line. The race then crosses the River Boyne again at Stoneyford before taking a right which will bring runners on a testing two kilometer stretch with some short hills. The 10KM course then joins with the 5Km course for the final 1.5KM back to Longwood GAA club for the finish.

Celebrating ‘The Big Lunch’ in Portstewart

Last year we had a Big Lunch on our street, celebrating a jubilee garden near the pensioners bungalows, created by the children. The Big Lunch was a simple but clever way to bring all the generations together. The children and elderly residents got to know each other better, sharing local stories and songs, and discovering the wealth of talent on our doorstep. It all helped to create a feel good atmosphere on our street.

It has had a profoundly positive effect on the whole street, and we not only know who our neighbours are, but have since supported each other in times of loss.

After our second party in September we started a befriending scheme were we look out for our each other’s houses and elderly neighbours, and are alerted to a problem if their curtains are not open by lunchtime. A simple task which works!

For this year ‘Big Lunch', we made our own bunting, banners, and collected donations. The excitement in the run up to the party is almost as good as the day its self on our street. We are all proud to live in Portstewart and our ‘Big Lunch’ celebrates the good will on our street.

I would encourage anyone to give it a go as The Big Lunch team are there to help you and it doesn’t need to cost much if everyone brings something to the table. Sure it’s fantastic fun and can make a difference in so many ways.

Cabo Verde’s development projects supported by the United Nations are helping to transform the agricultural sector of Santo Antão, the westernmost island of Cabo Verde. Since 1997, the development projects have helped moving water to irrigate and created useable farmland in an arid climate which previously was unusable for farming. The projects have also focused on turning land into more sustainable farming situation and teaching residents to learn to market better product such as switching from sugar cane to banana and other more sustainable products.

October 11, 2013 - Love for Haiti was a benefit concert taking place to support the Kingdom Kids project.

Kingdom Kids is a ministry outreach taking place in Léogane, Haiti. Their goal is to provide the community and the orphaned children with basic necessities - food, water, shelter, and medical care. The Kingdom Kids group also reaches further, hoping to provide for the people spiritually. They are bringing Christianity to the community, and have established a Bible school. Finally, they very simply just want the children to know they are loved.

LIFT Ministries and the St. Joseph Children's Choir teamed up on October 11, 2013 to have a night of music to raise money for the Kingdom Kids of Haiti. You are invited to come sing and pray with us. The night will also include silent auctions, snacks and drinks, unique merchandise, and a chance to meet Haitian missionary Jacques Fleury.

April 11, 2018--Brentwood--Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced $18.5 million included in the Fiscal Year 2019 Enacted Budget to launch a multi-pronged program for at-risk young people that will help Long Island communities cut off the MS-13 gang recruitment pipeline. Of this funding, $16 million will support the expansion of after-school programs, case management services and job opportunities for vulnerable youth, as well as community and local law enforcement initiatives to prevent gang involvement. A total of $2.5 million in funding will also support the Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative and SNUG street outreach on Long Island, which provide law enforcement agencies and community-based organizations with resources to help combat gun and gang violence using proven, evidence-based strategies. Together, this commitment builds on progress New York has made over the past year and ensures that young people have the tools and resources to avoid involvement in a gang. (Kevin P. This is a photograph from the Rathfarnham 5KM Road Race and Fun Run which took place in Rathfarnham, Co. Dublin, Ireland on Sunday 29th September 2013 at 10:00.

This is one of the most popular runs in South County Dublin and is held in support of St. Luke's Cancer Hospital, Rathgar. This year's race attracted over 1,300 participants and the run is open to runners, joggers and walkers. The course is one of the fastest 5ks in the country with a downhill start and finish. This is an excellently organised race with marhsalling at every junction and Garda enforced road closures for the duration of the race.

This is a photograph which is part of a large set of photographs taken at the 1KM and 4KM mark on the course. The entire set of photographs can be found here on our Flickr profile at the following link: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157635984917744/

This also extends the use of these images for Facebook profile pictures. In these cases please make a separate wall or blog post with a link to our Flickr page. If you do not know how this should be done for Facebook or other social media please email us and we will be happy to help suggest how to link to us.

Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.

In summary please remember when requesting photographs from us - all we ask is for you to provide a link back to our Flickr set or Flickr pages. You will find the link above clearly outlined in the description text which accompanies this photograph. Taking these photographs and preparing them for online posting does take a significant effort. We are not posting photographs to Flickr for commercial reasons. If you really like what we do please spread the link around your social media, send us an email, leave a comment beside the photographs, send us a Flickr email, etc.

If you would like to contribute something for your photograph(s)?

Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland. Friends of St. Lukes is one of the nominated charities for the event www.friendsofstlukes.ie/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets
