The subframe drooping like this looks scarier and messier than it actually is. There is enough slack in the pipes to allow it to drop without causing any upset to pipes or cables.

 

I disconnected the HC linkage, which, so I understand, is the only other link to the car.

 

Safety note:- the small bottle jack was not the only thing supporting the car - other blocks, axle stands and detatched wheels are out of view.

Bolt wouldn't go all the way down due to unfinished holes.

Rear subframe removed and put on a frame.

The subframe on 659 had been damaged in Wales from a rear end shunt. It was not worth repairing as it had been patched in the past with a big patch of steel welded on it. I therefore made some enquires for an AN68C sub frame and finally found one. So Graham was sent off to Birmingham to collect it. This frame will be cleaned and fitted to the bus in due course

 

On those old aluminium subframes almost all threads are worn and need to be fixed.
